Avatar 3:13pm Wild Neil:

PEACE all. Irwin et al! Irwin your Jazz is always world class. I was lucky engough to sit in a small room at Pausa Art House and see Bob Militello's Star People playing jazz only ten or fifteen feet away a month ago.....they were riffing on Miles Davis, it was awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Irwin:

Never heard of them, Neil. Do they have recordings? Recommended titles?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm blee:

The Dropper, indeed.
Avatar 3:19pm Listening Out There:

Host, after the Tom Wilson series, are you going to do Bob and Ray...or skip that since some of the segments are MIA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm mb:

@Neil - Does Star People still mix drinks in a choreographed fashion during their show?

Hello Irwin!
Avatar 3:21pm CeeDubbles:

You can catch them Friday night if you don't mind shuffling off to Buffalo www.pausaarthouse.com...
  3:25pm ?:

Skip Prokop has a little bit of a Jaki Liebezeit vibe
  3:27pm berbo:

I picked up albums by both Lighthouse and the Paupers by wandering from through thrift stores. I've always wondered, who is this Skip Prokop character? Thanks for this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Irwin:

"Magic People" has such a Spinal Tap vibe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Michael 98145:

yes, it does
  3:29pm Dean:

Too soon?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Irwin:

AAP: Drummer is Richard Bailey. Don't know his work. Any info?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Parq:

Wow, I just heard about Berger too. I remember his Rise William Rise intro being a part of FMU for, like, forever. Met him a couple of times, and he was a great guy. Aw shit, what a shame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm AnAnonymousParty:

Not here at work, just always loved that album. Made me a better guitar player.
Avatar 3:50pm BnowB:

listener for 33 years. found out at 4am .. gutted.
Avatar 3:51pm BnowB:

Found some of my favorite music ever on FMA.
  3:51pm Dean:

Aw, nuts. Is Wm. gone? Damn. Very sad. Condolences to the WFMU family and Wm's own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Irwin:

Wm is gone, but we can't pay homage on the air yet for family reasons. Which arose after Ken paid extensive homage this morning.
Avatar 3:54pm BnowB:

I feel terrible for my favorite old time wfmu djs .. you irwin and ken and the lifers practically. Feel so sad for ya['ll and I will miss his shows so much. I just called out sick and biked all day. Had nothing..
  3:55pm Dean:

Of course, I understand. It's a big deal for an occasional listener like me here on the other coast. I can't imagine how it hits the station. So sorry.
Avatar 3:57pm BnowB:

I just know he talked of son a lot and could tell there was much love. My legs were too tired to pedal. Irwin its on you and ken now simply live forever. No more loss ever!
Avatar 4:00pm BnowB:

Never saw Irwin pic before lol I live in montclair do you still. I think i seen you on church street and about town. I could be crazy.. i know I'm crazy..
  4:03pm choggie:

Frikkin' LOVE me some Joe Frank babies, thank you thank you from H-town Texas
  4:04pm Jan:

Great Ellington...ya know, growing up on 60s music, beginning with AOR, I never wanted to listen to the music of my parents' era, so it's great to have Jazz introduced by your program. Nowadays, the kids of today listen to the music of when we were kids, and are not likely to be as uninformed about the broad spectrum of older music as I am of the Jazz that I have yet to listen to.
  4:05pm choggie:

Joe Frank makes me hungry for deli meats...
Avatar 4:06pm BnowB:

the man speaking is that Lester Nastger?
Avatar 4:06pm BnowB:

Joe and Lester make amazing friends on FB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm chris:

hi, Irwin and everyone. Is that Lucky Dube in the background right now?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm chris:

i think the loop might be from Up with hope (down with dope) from 'house of exile'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm joe mulligan:

@BnowB - I just looked up Joe's side kick because I wanted to know too! appears it's Larry Block. sounds like he was a fun guy.
Avatar 4:26pm BnowB:

@joe mulligan - ty Lester Nastger is a voice too but not sure what episodes... He sure is funny on FB him and Joe seem like best friends. He replies to me at least but very clever witty like Joe. Larry Block is brilliant in these episodes.
Avatar 4:27pm BnowB:

Joe will reply when he can too.. at least to me we been friends on FB many years now but he a sweet heart of a guy really.
Avatar 4:28pm BnowB:

Joe like me on here lol posts a lot but when its joe frank its not "too much" lol Its just brilliant new writings on FB
Avatar 4:28pm BnowB:

"i was centered and i was strong" "whimpering"
Avatar 4:32pm BnowB:

I talked to Joe during that time. When he started feeling better he got on FB and was so grateful for the kind words. This episode is surreal.. or the opposite..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Carmichael:

Heya Irwin. Richard Bailey is a Guyanese drummer who played for Bob Marley and Johnny Nash. Besides Beck, he also was on the Tommy soundtrack. He's been in a band called Incognito for the last few decades.
Avatar 4:45pm BnowB:

@carmichael very interesting ty for into
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm joe mulligan:

@BnowB - very cool. so are these conversations that Joe and Larry have pre-scripted or authentic calls?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Irwin:

Joe Frank Medical and Recovery Fund: www.gofundme.com...
  4:51pm berbo:

Actually I'll bet Michael Eisner is pretty. He just happens to be successful.
  4:53pm berbo:

pretty messed up. Not pretty.
Avatar 4:54pm BnowB:

@irwin good job. I didn't know that gofundme page was still up.
@joemulligan He says on FB that he goes too far being real on radio. He talks openly of his health struggle, has interviews and shows still as he is sick but still does a very real blunt show about life... and philosophy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm common:

Irwin, all.
Avatar 4:56pm BnowB:

Joe is stil posting on FB though I think he had to limit it because of a contract he has .. His GF set up that page and Lester Nastger lets you know whats up with him if things aren't doing well. he seems to be fighting it well.
Avatar 4:57pm BnowB:

I say that because he seems more active on FB lately again.
Avatar 4:57pm BnowB:

lol larry your leaving now.. good night joe.. that seemed pretty damn real to me
Avatar 4:59pm BnowB:

First time Joe Frank he friended me and then actually talked to me on FB I was in shock i was so happy. I needed a joe frank show. Listening to him on WFMU since i was a teen 33 years ago
Avatar 5:01pm BnowB:

He assaulted by a cop with "muscles on his knuckles" wipe out
Avatar 5:04pm BnowB:

Avatar 5:06pm BnowB:

All the years joe was on wfmu I have stacks of tapes of his shows from marathon goodies.

  5:16pm fredr:

This is a nice one Irwin! Thanks for playing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Michael 98145:

Yes, thank you, from 1975 it appears.
  5:19pm Laura L:

Irwin, is the whole of the album as good as this tune?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Irwin:

Just got it, LL, don't know. But it's the same personnel throughout. This track is 19+ minutes, the rest are shorter. Miles Davis also interpreted this tune on Sketches of Spain.
Avatar 5:22pm Stay Frosty:

Great groove Mr. Irwin. As always, you the MAN
  5:23pm DL in LA:

Were parts of this Jim Hall melody used in a movie? Thanks for playing. It's gorgeous!
Avatar 5:25pm Stay Frosty:

This is also very nice in classical acoustic. Love this version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Irwin:

It's a well-known melody, interpreted by many.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Irwin:

I'm addicted to this song.
Avatar 5:35pm BnowB:

Hot chip? lol Im amazed after 33 years of listening how much I still dont know about music. I guess as a listener its been one big experience. So much respect for the DJ knowledge on wfmu and many listeners. I'm along for the ride I like the sounds that reverb my head.
  5:35pm Laura L:

It's doing things to your dopamine receptors, Irwin!

Such a Strong Close! Thanx Irwin!
Avatar 5:57pm Hoboken Jack:

L7! You know, I was at the Filthy Friends show last week (Corin Tucker, Peter Buck, etc.) and a significantly younger female friend described it as "dad rock meets riot grrrl." I replied that in fairness, by her logic, riot grrrl is now "mom rock."
