AHH! Miss Yvonne Baker. Last time Stacy and I were at Val Shively's, we called Yvonne Baker and she wouldn't say a word to us. It took Val a long time to penetrate her icy exterior. She isn't keen on being in the limelight. Actually, she wanted to hang it up in the 50s. Used to have a MINTY east coast vinyl stocker of this one. Sold it to pay a hefty car repair bill. I was OBSESSED with Bad Reputation when I was 7 years old. It was on the Shrek soundtrack (it was a cover version actually) and I would jump up and down and sing along 20 times in a row if no one yanked it off. My cousin thought it was a "bad" song because of the "damn" so she would try and switch it to the Smash Mouth cover of I'm a Believer that was on that album, and we'd fight over it.

By the way, I never cared for that Kid'sBop stuff either. Schlock-loving friends and relatives would give that sort of thing to our kid as presents, and we wouldn't discourage her from listening to it, but I think she could tell the difference between what we were digging and what we were tolerating, and it did make a difference to her.

St. Etienne is a HUGE influence on me as well. Foxbase Alpha is also one of my favorite albums of all time. When that came out, I was getting way into Phil Spector, Northern Soul, Scott Walker along with all the rap and dance music I was already playing. It came along at the perfect time. So Tough is a masterpiece as well. True tastemakers they are.
