@Michael 98145 A sad story for Maysa.
Avatar 3:39pm
@sugarwolf@:

"Maysa had an affair with the show's producer, Ronaldo Bôscoli, a journalist and composer linked romantically to bossa nova's muse Nara Leão. This led to a break between Nara and Ronaldo, as well as a fracture in the bossa nova movement. Maysa became "persona non grata" both to the bossa-novistas and the protest singers and her career faltered. " no wonder she looked kinda miserable!!

Really enjoying the interview! Thinking like Bob about a fire and how I have my most prized 45's ready for evacuation! Actually I bought nice boxes for 1.50 euro with lids in 'Deals' or 'Poundland'UK which hold about 150 45's...have about 10 of them and they contain many promo 45's My most favourites are in there including 'Craise Finton Kirk' by Johnny Young and 'Lazy Life' by William E-Both on Polydor. The othe umteen thousand singles I have collected in the past 47(almost 40 of themin radio) years are in my garage

Agree with Bob, the melodies aren't as good in chart pop now. I used to be able to appreciate a good melody even in a lousy production c. the 90s.

@christine I have a soft spot for bad spoken-word songs. Human by Human League is a particular fave. Smooth pop then: "Ey oop..."!
Avatar 4:50pm
djsheilab:

@ratso But so many of the great artists from the 60s can also be considered "manufactured" with hit factories like the Brill Building. But the quality of songs + artists was extremely high. Unlike today.
  4:51pm
JakeGould:

Maybe it’s because modern pop music has changed because we’re truly in a global economy. Anyone can download anything from anywhere. So it’s not that it’s manufactured as much as it’s being tailored to appeal across borders and countries. Much like the way all major Hollywood films (honestly) pander to the global market.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
NYCTrucking:

I've never been a "mainstream person", but I can actually name a few modern pop/chart topping tracks that show some good musicianship in my opinion. There seems to always be waves of give and take between commerce and artistry. Interesting point @sheliab about manufactured music of the 60s. I guess many people myself included would consider that to be a golden era

Haha, as a nyc truck driver, I must say: Road rage is a real human condition. I'm also a person who believes strongly in peace. But I flip out on people all the time behind the wheel. It's totally normal for some reason. Also, being wrongfully imprisoned is something I think of when I am having a bad day, and how much worse problems people face without justice.

Miss Sheila, I enjoy hearing about your fantasies of revenge. I just came from the supermarket with my kids and some young gal passed me by and muttered, "Why is everyone so goddamn slow today?" So I didn't say anything but I had to suppress a desire to walk over to her car and smash her skull into the windshield. And then right before that, I was planning to say - please don't curse in front of my children. But them seeing me beat her to a pulp would have been acceptable, I suppose...
