I know I've said a septillion times, but I live Where Bo Diddley lived and died. The downtown plaza is named after him. I was thrilled when I noticed that.
  Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
coelacanth∅:

huh - of course....the only version of mellow down easy i ever heard is by zz top, and somehow never thought about seeking out the original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Funky16Corners:

Bo was the truth, as was Little Walter. There's a great 2CD comp of Little Walter's best stuff that is indispensible.
  Swag For Life Member 10:13pm

ngh it seems to me that you live in an anomalous haven, to some degree.

Have that Little Walter double cd & was obsessed with it for a while. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm

There's a lot to be obsessed about, especially if you dig that harp sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Jeff Ash:

If this set is going where I think it's going, all these groups made the rounds of the old roadhouse/campus/frat/nightclub circuit that existed in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan during the mid to late '60s
Avatar 10:24pm
geezerette:

I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

I can imagine, not too far to go from Chicago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Jeff Ash:

Pack up the van!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Funky16Corners:

The Jersey Shore go a little of that action via NYC during the 60s. Bands would come down and play in Asbury Park. National acts at the Convention Hall
  Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
coelacanth∅:

good version. i love the original but i love when someone does something totally differently and it's also good.
  Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
coelacanth∅:

...(or, was that the original?!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
Funky16Corners:

Nope, Monkees is the OG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm

Funky16Corners:

Oh man, I used to practice the drums to Chicago's Greatest Hits, ALL THE TIME
  Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
coelacanth∅:

Larry, this may interest you... Mike Nesmith did in fact pen mary, mary; but the butterfield blues band actually recorded it first.
- at least according to wikipedia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Funky16Corners:

I believe that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Doug Schulkind:

I keep trying to come up with a respectable quip that has Trans Fats Domino as the comeback, but I keep failing. Good evening Testifiers!

Phat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Funky16Corners:

I think Fats gets left behind sometimes because he wasn't flashy, but hugely important. Same deal with the Everly Brothers
  Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
coelacanth∅:

Doug you better come up with something for that trans fat joke before next wednesday!
Avatar 11:04pm
geezerette:

@Coel, thanks!
  Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
coelacanth∅:

in the book "the stars & superstars of rock"(or something like that) Fats is given the attention he deserves, at least. that author considered him essential to the foundation of rock. ( i may be paraphrasing quite a lot there)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
JtotheK:

I realized I had made a corny Fats Domino related comment on a Fine Wine program. Thanks to vigorous internet research I have found. Here goes:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
JtotheK:

It was something related Yahtzee and Chubby Checker. (Dominos...Checkers...Yahtzee!) Ha ha!
  Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
coelacanth∅:

haha! silly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Funky16Corners:

As long as you don't associate him with substandard pizza
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
JtotheK:

i believe in that case pizza should read "pizza".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
JtotheK:

darrow fletcher 45s on jacklyn while hard to come by are GREAT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Funky16Corners:

Someone should do a comp of soul by younger teenagers in the 60s. I think Fletcher was 14 or 15 when he recorded that 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
JtotheK:
