I want to go check on the ballgame, but this is an especially fine show, and I have heard many cool F16C shows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Jeff! I'm glad you're digging it.
  Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
coelacanth∅:

bummer, i missed the Fats set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

Hi C! Catch it in the archive!
  Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

...i like this though. reminds me a little of Country Joe?
...hi Larry and all
  Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
coelacanth∅:

i already golded the episode star Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Funky16Corners:

I think you'll dig this set. And thanks! Biff is a fave of mine.
Avatar 11:16pm
northguineahills:

Oddly, Biff is new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
doctorjazz:

Hi. I have a memory of Biff having a tune that got FM play in the 60s or 70s, but can't remember which. Like him, though, have to check out his stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Funky16Corners:

Biff is a great example of guy that did his best stuff first, and then diminished progressively as he went along. He's still around but a little unhinged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
doctorjazz:

He comes off as just this side of unhinged even then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, but he had the guidance of great arrangers and producers. Later on, not so much. But yeah, off in his own world
  Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
coelacanth∅:

i apologise to anyone who gets annoyed when similarities are cited in music. i can't help my mind going there! i'm a geek and music trivia entertains me!
...these Biff Rose tracks remind me of the hunky dory album too, which came later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Funky16Corners:

There's a reason for that!
  Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
coelacanth∅:

haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Funky16Corners:

David was listening to a LOT of Biff at the time. And covering this one.
  Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
coelacanth∅:

funny.

...i decided to do a "noise-metal" version of this song a couple a years ago. i still haven't got to it though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Funky16Corners:

Fill Your Heart?
  Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
coelacanth∅:

yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Funky16Corners:

That sounds like a challenge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
doctorjazz:

This is the one that got some air play, Molly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Funky16Corners:

Biff's original version is absolutely heartbreaking.
  Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
coelacanth∅:

well, i didn't say i'd do a GOOD version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks again to Cal Zone, Alexander J, Kjell Y, Lee B and Pat K for pledging!
  Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
coelacanth∅:

very little on wikipedia about Mr.Rose. it does mention that Tiny Tim did fill your heart and released it first, before Biff or Bowie.
i really want to hear both Biff's and Tiny Tim's versions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
Funky16Corners:

Tiny's version is cool. I'll play some more Biff on future shows
  Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
coelacanth∅:

looking forward to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Funky16Corners:

That first Tiny Tim album has some nice pop stuff on it
  Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
coelacanth∅:

i have a Tiny Tim album that i haven't paid much attention to. i forget which one; but it's odd that the "tiptoe through the tulips"b/w"fill your heart" 45 never made it to our house when i was little. my older sister loved it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Funky16Corners:

I wonder is anyone ever did a book about Tiny. One of my favorite episodes of Dr Demento was him and Tiny rapping about early 20th century pop singers and songwriters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
Funky16Corners:

I think we'll be running over a few minutes tonight. Not much...
  Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
coelacanth∅:

"eternal troubadour -the improbable life of Tiny Tim"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks G!
  Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
coelacanth∅:

actually it looks like there are at least 3 books about him. i do recall, fogilly, someone on the radio talking up that particular one though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
Funky16Corners:

I'll have a look around.
  Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
coelacanth∅:

(probably wfmu, on the book show that used to be on...which i miss. Bronwyn C?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
Funky16Corners:

I remember Tiny being a regular on Howard Stern's show
Avatar 12:01am
Scraps:

Larry, what do you think about “Roast Beef”?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am
Funky16Corners:

By who?
Avatar 12:02am
Scraps:

Biff. Album.
  Swag For Life Member 12:02am
coelacanth∅:

- and i have a still from the laugh-in show where John Wayne is on one knee, kissing Tiny Tim's gloved hand!
  Swag For Life Member 12:03am
coelacanth∅:

(i don't have the original still!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am
Funky16Corners:

I don't have that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am
Funky16Corners:

The latest one I have is that live at the Bitter End thing
  Swag For Life Member 12:05am
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Larry!
good night y'all
Avatar 12:05am
Scraps:

Ah. Michael Nesmith “produced” it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am
Funky16Corners:

Really?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am
Funky16Corners:

From 1978, is it any good?
Avatar 12:07am
Scraps:

Yes, but some people say the songs are better live
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am
Funky16Corners:

I'll have to look for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am
Funky16Corners:

Nite all!
Avatar 12:07am

But, it is, like you say, weird
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am
Funky16Corners:

That, I believe!
Avatar 12:09am
Scraps deSelby:

Melancholy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am
Funky16Corners:

There is a serious thread of melancholy running through his stuff
  Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah, brilliant! Thanks again
