I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Good Saturday, Mayuko, Scraps, and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm fred:

Hello Mayuko, Scraps, james, and other listeners. This DST thing (we switched out last week) is confusing; I almost missed the start of the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Dave in Vermont:

hi creepy people
  12:04pm P-90:

こんにちは@DJ Mayuko!
And hello Vertigoers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm listener james from westwood:

Ahhh, can always spot the Caretaker, with that decayed, echo-through-time sound!
Avatar 12:04pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi Mayuko!
Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

Welcome, my radio family scraps! Hello james, fred, Dave! ようこそ P-90! Hi Jesse! Good to have you all here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm fred:

Is Noriko Awaya the singer who sang for POWs? I remember you telling that story about a singer from that era
Avatar 12:06pm Mayuko:

@james Caretaker's so good!!!!!
  12:06pm No Thank You Please:

Hi Mayuko and all the vertiginous! Usually I’m an archive listener, but I’m sick today so I am home listening live for once!
  12:11pm Rickwaukee:

Can you pause the show for 10 minutes? I have to jump in the shower quick - don't want to miss anything
Avatar 12:11pm Mayuko:

There was this popular article published this past summer about a ghost radio station that’s thought to belong to the Russian military
Some of the stations mentioned in this article are in this selection we’re listening now.
  12:14pm No Thank You Please:

Who knew The Conet Project would be so timely?
  12:17pm rbrt:

number stations! ♡ these!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm listener james from westwood:

Love love love Conet. My ringtone is the Lincolnshire Poacher one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Mayuko and the Verty Party. I grew up a hundred-somegthing miles from that crazy pyramid, but never knew of its existence until I read the Gizmodo article. All the money to design and build it and they abandoned the thing after just one day. Cold War craziness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: When Bandcamp had that thing in Jan when artists were donating their $ to the ACLU, I went on a Caretaker tear. Great work music for my type of job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm listener james from westwood:

In retrospect, the repeat bit of electro-gibberish of the probe droid in "The Empire Strikes Back" now sounds very Conet-ish.
  12:21pm rbrt:

the picture with all the rebar for the pyramid structure!, makes me wonder if the Egyptians didn't have a superior design lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm listener james from westwood:

LOL, I looked @ my phone!!
Avatar 12:22pm Mayuko:

@No Thank You Please Very happy to have you here though I'm sorry you're sick! Thank you for listening!!

@Rickwaukee I don't mind you being a little dirty at my party.
Avatar 12:23pm Mayuko:

& Hallos rbrt and Ken! Welcome on board!
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

This is your ringtone?! You're truly amazing on so many levels, james.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Ike:

Hello! I'm also dirty.
  12:24pm cheezu:

Named after an English folk song, Lincolnshire Poacher is a mature cheddar style from the English countryside. Two brothers, Simon and Tim Jones, make huge wheels of this cheese from their herd of 230 Holstein cows, combining fresh, warm milk from each morning’s milking with cooled milk from the night before. Lincolnshire is unlike any other English farmhouse cheese. It’s the fruitiest, sweetest cheddar-style out there, with a taste that recalls pineapple and dried apricots. Simon and Tim care deeply about their cheese and their cows, as evidenced not only by the remarkable flavor of each wheel but by the Happy Cow Brushes they’ve installed in their barn to help brush dirt and parasites from their cows as well as give them a nice massage after a long day at pasture.

Thanks, Google.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mayuko and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm listener james from westwood:

Aw, shucks, higher praise I cannot imagine, for its coming from a darn awesome person herself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

@cheezu: Now that sounds like some Lincolnshire worth poaching!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@cheezu - I wonder if listener Wendy del Formaggio is aware of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm listener james from westwood:

Possibly something WdF could do for a future cheese update on Clay's show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

"Wop Wop" would also make a fine ring tone.
  12:31pm cheezu:

@Ken From Hyde Park - your question about Ms. del Formaggio raises yet more questions. Is it REALLY a coincidence Bernard Parmigiani has arguably the most delicious name in electronic music? And did he work for Italian Secret Services?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm listener james from westwood:

Thought that was Delia!
Avatar 12:36pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, Ike and coelacanth∅! Welcome on board, cheezu!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm listener james from westwood:

I should go get my laundry out of the dryer but this is entrancing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm fred:

@james: I'm postponing my ironing chore for the same reason
  12:41pm cheezu:

Thank you for such interesting listening, Mayuko, and for sharing this absolutely fascinating article on mysterious radio stations. Spy signals all around us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm fred:

Wow, this Enhet Fö Fri Musik is amazing!
  12:48pm Rickwaukee:

I get so worked up listening I usually wait tand shower after the show :-} Haven't listened to my Conet Project CDs in years - need to dig them up
  12:49pm Rickwaukee:

It is a cold grey damp day here today - these sounds fit well
  12:50pm Rickwaukee:

Also, mother's wake tomorrow - she had her own elegance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm listener james from westwood:

Deepest sympathies, Rickwaukee; I have been in that position too. Hoping bluer skies are soon yours.
Avatar 12:54pm Mayuko:

@cheezu thank YOU for kind words! I scared myself while preparing this show listening/reading all these war-spy things!! So creepy.
  12:56pm Rickwaukee:

Thank you, James
  12:57pm amelia:

this is just what i need today
  12:58pm rbrt:

  12:58pm Rickwaukee:

  12:59pm No Thank You Please:

I’m so sorry, Rickwaukee. Lost my dad not that long ago, so I sympethize.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Best wishes, Rickwaukee. Sorry for your loss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm listener james from westwood:

Even though they're all made by humans, numbers stations give me hope that there are still some not completely explained things out there.
  1:01pm rbrt:

condolences Rickwaukee
  1:04pm Rickwaukee:

Thank you, rbrt, Ken, No Thank You - the big wheel turns
  1:05pm P-90:

I think he means the "known" radio station on Gibraltar is bleeding into his recording of the mysterious signal, because it was so close to the same frequency. That's what he means by "can be heard behind it."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Ike:

I don't mean to criticize but pronouncing it <swĕd-dish> rather than <SWEE-dish> makes them sound sweaty! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm listener james from westwood:

I trimmed that Poacher bit to 4 repeats of the main tune, which just loops over and over. Nearly the first thing I did when I finally got an iPhone; I'd been looking forward to doing so for months!
  1:07pm Rickwaukee:

Pretty sure I first heard of Conet on someone's show on WFMU
  1:08pm rbrt:

*puts on tinfoil hat*
  1:08pm Rickwaukee:

The transmission is coming form inside your naval!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm fred:

The FMA dataset is getting famous in machine learning academia, it was discussed at a conference in China last month. I think the Conet Project is part of it, that should add some welcome confusion. (I'll have to check it's in there at work)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Ike:

The main characters in the TV show The Americans are spies for Russia in the 80s and they listen to a numbers station to get a secret message in one episode, IIRC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm listener james from westwood:

@Rickwaukee: Likewise. Some DJ played a series of them and I was captivated.
1:12pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

“Ghosts are a joke compared to this type of thing”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

As Run DMC might say, It's Tricky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mayuko! The Conet Project is old favorite of mine!
  1:14pm No Thank You Please:

I heard about Conet from Aquarius Records many years ago (RIP), right around the same time I discovered FMU, actually. Though I think the sort of person who is inclined to really dig something like that has a higher-than-average chance of being an FMU listener!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm listener james from westwood:

If I ran some small establishment like a coffee shop or bookstore, I'd throw it on for part of the day, just to see who noticed/spark conversation/etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm melinda:

howdy Mayuko and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm listener james from westwood:

Of course, THAT would be the day I get a sleeper agent as a customer who orders a cappuccino, hears a key series of digits, freezes, pulls a Walther out of her coat, and says in a radically different voice, "Make that to go."
Avatar 1:18pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee Navy of Me?
Avatar 1:20pm Mayuko:

Welcome, amelia! Glad you enjoy it! Good afternoon, Henry! Hey melinda, glad to have you all here!
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

Oh by the way I did go to apple picking last week, and it was AMAZING! Thank you Henry and Ken for the suggestions! It worked great!!!
  1:24pm rbrt:

apple picking is the best!, I'm surprised there are still apples to pick this late? I went in beg of Oct
Avatar 1:25pm geezerette:

"Disconnected" shimmers. :)
Avatar 1:26pm geezerette:

Hello Mayuko & all! Happy weekend.
Avatar 1:26pm Mayuko:

Ha, I see now Conet is popular here at FMU! I guess of course!
Now that I think it's kind of too bad that these ghost stations are making pretty amazing sounds that are more interesting than many stuff musicians make. Them Russians!
  1:27pm rbrt:

hi geezerette same to you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Glad to hear the apple picking worked out! I need to find a new place for blueberry picking in the summeretime. The place I used to go closed down.

And hallos, northguineahills!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Mayuko, since you now have a green card, can you vote in the election on Tuesday?
  1:34pm No Thank You Please:

@ken - fresh blueberries are the best! Those sad little grocery store ones just cannot compete (if they’re even really blueberries - I have my doubts)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm listener james from westwood:

Rylander's name looks/sounds familiar, perhaps only b/c I dig this electro-drone.
Avatar 1:36pm northguineahills:

That Henrik Rylander is beautiful!
  1:36pm rbrt:

@webmastehenry I like this little apple chart on their website
  1:37pm rbrt:

honeycrisp are my favorite
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

@rbrt seemed like depends on the type of apples. Some were already gone, shrunk or fell on the ground, but others I could still pick! It was so so so much fun! Them apple trees were really impressive!
Avatar 1:37pm northguineahills:

I can't eat much fruit. It's usually too sweet for me (well my intestines), but that doesn't stop me from indulging occasionally.
Avatar 1:38pm geezerette:

This show attracts people to whom everything is music. Lucky or what?!
  1:38pm rbrt:

@Mayuko yeah I didn't realize some are available in like dec according to this chart?! what happens if it snows? lol
Avatar 1:38pm Mayuko:

Henrik Rylander is one of the artists who do better job creating cool drone than Russian Military.
Avatar 1:39pm northguineahills:

jaJA!, nice one Mayuko!

Hello Mayuko and devotees.
Looks like a modern ziggurat in the picture. No city on top though.
  1:41pm No Thank You Please:

You are crushing it with this show today. So many varied and excellent sounds!
Avatar 1:41pm geezerette:

There used to be cherry orchards between eastern edge of LA and the desert. You could pick cherries and buy freh cherry juice by the gallon. Great childhood memory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm fred:

The pledge widget is also available even though we're in November. The station is close enough to what it needs to survive until the next marathon that every pledge makes a noticeable dent in what's needed
  1:43pm rbrt:

cherry juice sounds delicious
Avatar 1:43pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Brian in UK!!
Avatar 1:43pm Brian in UK:

Hoping to get along to this place some time soon. There are so many types of apple but so few on sale. It is also Cider and Perry time now.

Avatar 1:46pm Mayuko:

ahh! Thank you for the reminder, fred, I totally forgot to mention the marathon in the excitement for those mysterious radio stations fully funded by governments!!

The station and I are super close to the fundraiser goal! Please chip in from the top banner and help us out if you enjoy the music so that we can continue broadcasting encrypted Russian messages that makes no sense to 99% of the population!

this label name "We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want " lol
  1:56pm Rickwaukee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm fred:

Midori Takada's name sounds familiar, but I can't place her exactly. Great track anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

I'm hoping folks are able to close the, what, 4.5-point gap in the budget over the next week and change. Leaving the widget up has been a lifeline in past fundraisers. You never know who just hasn't gotten paid but wants to help out (sez the freelancer.... :) ).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm listener james from westwood:

Also glad they hyped the sustaining-membership model this year. It finally convinced me to do it. It's honestly good for pledgers who want to avoid getting to, say, March, but realizing they don't have the $XX or $XXX to send in one big shot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm listener james from westwood:

Wish we could hear 5 more hours of today's audio offerings, but if it's gonna be 2, what a 2!
