This track is called for at this time. Music made me think of time and space. Beautiful haunting voice of Julien Baker and lyrics of love surprised me- A wonderful work to kick off the show. Hi Irene!

Alright Irene, I saw Laura Nyro at Fillmore east and the opening act was...wait for it...Miles Davis. She played a grand piano unaccompanied, after THAT. Best concert I have ever seen.

...and raising taxes on homeowners just to throw more money @ a broken public education system. I have no children & just love having my money stolen to pay for everyone else's wayward sperm.

Hi Number 6- Is a broken public education system a tune I've missed. It's not fair to Irene and other listeners. Sorry!

very nice set, this is the first time I've heard your program. Keep it up.

Wow, neat. I'm going to have to re-listen to this album again. This doesn't include the fart song does it?

Yes, "Our Song" is the fart/poop/belch song.

Too bad it didn't get Top 40 AM radio airplay back in the day. A novelty hit for sure.

Nice to have you here, Peter! Catching people by surprise is something WFMU specializes in. ?, I actually skipped it at the top of the Geesin/Waters album.
Avatar 10:31pm
Scraps:

The one story that’s surprising to me, redkayak — in a good way — is the Virginia governor race. Polls had it tightening, to fivethirtyeight had all polls said around three point Democrat lead. With 97% counted, Northam, the Dem candidate, is leading by eight.
Avatar 10:36pm
Scraps:

Nate Silver sez: “To bring the point home a bit, Democrats have won — or are leading in — literally every race that Daily Kos Elections decided to highlight on its scoreboard tonight, except the 45th state Senate District in Washington state, where polls are still open. Some of those wins are by large margins, and some are narrow — but it’s a pretty comprehensive sweep so far.”

Good news about the elections. I hadn't been following.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm

Yes, melinda, I had been pronouncing Balmorhea with the emPHsis on the "REE-uh" but now have the correct pronunciation fully fixed in my brain.

I'm interested in how these elections will spin out over time. Would be nice to see a shift toward something more rational.

Number Six:

Thanks, Irene! And MUCH agreement with you on the wish for more rationality.
  11:30pm
Dean:

I dunno, but _wishing_ for more rationality seems kinda...irrational.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Irene Trudel:

It's probably a lost cause, Dean. But one can hope.
  11:35pm
Dean:

Nope. Never has been a lost cause. Never.
  11:36pm
Andrew:

How do you know it was an Origa sample? Yes, it sounded plausible, but I didn't see it from following the link and I gather that Haco samples her own voice.

Andrew:

By the way, lovely show, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Andrew!
Avatar 11:43pm
Number Six:

@Andrew: This is the first time I've ever heard Haco so I don't know who she samples. However, it definitely sounded like a sample of Origa's "Inner Light".
  11:55pm
Andrew:

Haco: “Qoosui” is a coined word from me. Originally, it’s from one of the titles of this album’s songs, “Kusui”, which is written words in Japanese (with two ‘kanji’ characters) by Hidekazu Imashige. I just changed the spelling “ku” to “qoo”, which sounds the same. “Qoo” means ‘air’ or ’emptiness’, and “sui” means ‘clearness’ or ‘water’.

Thanks for tuning in tonight! Catch up with you next week, with a live set by Paper Daggers.

Ah, thanks for the explanation, Andrew. 'Nite all!

Thanks, Number Six, I will have to go back and check. I am familiar only with Origa's album "Era of Queens" and a few random other songs.
