This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Let's go, round two. Some really groovy stuff planned for this evening
Avatar 6:58pm
hyde:

hello!
Avatar 7:01pm
hyde:

y'know, i just noticed that i have a swag for life icon. embarrassingly, i'm not a swag for life member. so my icon is a lie.
Avatar 7:02pm
Flash Strap:

Hi Hyde!
Avatar 7:03pm
Flash Strap:

wonder how you swung that?
Avatar 7:06pm
Flash Strap:

Some more Gato! might be the only one tonight, but it's a good one
Avatar 7:06pm
Flash Strap:

Gato for my friend Hyde the one eyed cat
Avatar 7:07pm
hyde:

i don't know? it was not there before i put in that pledge that got you to the goal, i feel like a fraud.
Avatar 7:07pm
hyde:

good ol' Gato
Avatar 7:09pm
Flash Strap:

when I look at the marathon console – ok I don't understand how any of this actually works with any great confidence – but when I look at it, you definitely pledged more than 24 bucks. Might want to double check it
Avatar 7:11pm
hyde:

oh ha, crap it looks like i managed to pledge 24$ a month. whoops.
Avatar 7:12pm
Flash Strap:

haha glad we looked into that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
doctorjazz:

hey all!!!
Avatar 7:14pm
Flash Strap:

I remember when you pledged, I don't think it was like that at the time. may be an error

Hi Doc! come on in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
listener james from westwood:

Heya, all! Happy to be catching Piero Part Due!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, how's the exploration going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
doctorjazz:

@Hyde, contact Joe McGasko, send an email, I've done similar stuff, accidentally pledged more than I had intended, he'll straighten it out.
Avatar 7:20pm
hyde:

@doctorjazz thanks, it's cool. it'll get straightened out i'm sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
listener james from westwood:

Oh, good Taxi Driver reference! (If a bit horrific in the context of the film!)
  7:23pm
zonk ludlow:

Evening Evan and fellow explorers. Looking forward to the next couple of hours of wall to wall craziness.

Hi James! Ken!and ZONK! Great to see you all!

lot of righteous psych guitar this set

Me too, Hyde
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Little Danny:

Racing to catch up but OMG so much Umiliani goodness is now distracting me
Avatar 8:19pm
Flash Strap:

This might be Zeudi, I don't know for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Little Danny:

It's kinda stupid to pick favorites but Umiliani might be mine from that Euro soundtrack world
Avatar 8:19pm
Flash Strap:

LD! Great to see ya pal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Little Danny:

Likewise!
Avatar 8:22pm
Flash Strap:

I'd say definitely but then Roger Roger and Nino Nardini show up and make a pretty good effort too... still, he's virtually uncontested in my book
Avatar 8:22pm
Flash Strap:

though, I guess RR&NN have to team up to compete
Avatar 8:23pm
hyde:

i love all those guys, but y'know. Morricone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Little Danny:

I mean, geez, Morricone and Piccioni. High output + high quality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
melinda:

Funky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Little Danny:

Hi Hyde! You were there first with Ennio
Avatar 8:26pm
Flash Strap:

I love 'em too, but I picked my favorites and I meant it! But yeah, Ennio and Piccioni are pretty much god-like genius level great
Avatar 8:26pm
Flash Strap:

SO funky
Avatar 8:26pm
hyde:

@LD ha. the Morricone thing is just superhuman--i honestly have no idea how he managed that output. it's just unreal to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Little Danny:

Superhuman, indeed. Morricone I think is the only composer who could keep up with the prolificacy (word?) of some of the top Bollywood composers
Avatar 8:30pm
Flash Strap:

it's astounding what he accomplished. he's incredible
Avatar 8:32pm
Flash Strap:

prolificacy! I was trying to remember how to conjugate prolific, that's it
Avatar 8:33pm
hyde:

i think it's actually profligacy
Avatar 8:33pm
Flash Strap:

remember this theme, it will be on the test in the last set
Avatar 8:34pm
hyde:

(i'm kidding)
Avatar 8:34pm
Flash Strap:

oooh, is it? damn
Avatar 8:35pm
hyde:

i do remember this theme. this whole soundtrack is really good.
Avatar 8:35pm
Flash Strap:

haha right. right! man, I'm a little in over my head typing all this Italian and trying to chat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Little Danny:

This right here, at 8:35pm. This is the shit!
Avatar 8:36pm
hyde:

@Flash jeez. tell Doug that you need to hire an assistant.
Avatar 8:38pm
Flash Strap:

oh, but i'd miss the constant frantic typing
Avatar 8:38pm
Flash Strap:

I agree LD. hell yes
Avatar 8:41pm
still b/p:

Thissa all very nice, though the last one was only left channel. I gotta plug in the little kitchen speakers for cooking accompaniment.
Avatar 8:42pm
Flash Strap:

this is easily one of my favorite records of all time here. not as lush, but so intense
Avatar 8:43pm
Flash Strap:

Hi B/P! I think he just put the birds on the right channel, but not sure. Never found a great rip of that LP, sadly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Little Danny:

@hyde: inspired now to scramble to grab some Ennio for tonight's show
Avatar 8:50pm
Flash Strap:

oh NICE. Let's keep it in the famiglia tonight
Avatar 8:51pm
hyde:

@LD good luck narrowing it all down to one track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Little Danny:

Geez I know, my eyes/ears are swimming
Avatar 8:54pm
Flash Strap:

this one is so intense
Avatar 8:57pm
still b/p:

Will you hear my confession? Prompted by some discussion during Bodega Pop a couple weeks ago, I looked at Umiliani info, and then....then....I watched some portions of Svezia, Inferno E Paradiso. I did.

btw -- Watching something less infernal earlier this evening, Morricone was a Jeopardy answer.
Avatar 8:59pm
Flash Strap:

How was it, b/p? like a Mondo doc, but more boring? or super sexy?
Avatar 9:01pm
northguineahills:

Phew, got here in time!
Avatar 9:02pm
Flash Strap:

NGH! great to have you in the room!
Avatar 9:05pm
still b/p:

I'm not sure there's ANYthing super sexy in it, even when it lingers on what's supposed to be. It is weak doc style. I hopscotched and stopped to snicker at some silly bits. I do think viewing the full load of it would be trying, even with the period-flavor interest.
Avatar 9:20pm
Flash Strap:

Yeah, a lot of them are that way. La Ragazza Dalla Pelle di Luna sorta sucks too.

I think the first time I had that experience was when I finally got ahold of Vampyros Lesbos, which sort of like Argento but also not very good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
Little Danny:

GodDAMN! Officina Stellare!
Avatar 9:21pm

yeah that one is all-time great!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm

hi coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm

No way. Kraftwerk totally stole this Moggi track!
Avatar 9:36pm
Flash Strap:

I know right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
coelacanth∅:

...melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
Little Danny:

Although did Moggi maybe come after? I have so many Umiliani records I wanna chase down right now but can't due to le impending show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth∅:

oh yeah - the man machine was 1978
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
coelacanth∅:

("we are the robots")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm
coelacanth∅:

(...i think "spacelab" from the same album also borrowed from that.)
Avatar 9:41pm
Flash Strap:

This record is so good. Mille E Una Sera (Thousand and One Nights)
Avatar 9:43pm
Flash Strap:

honestly, it's been so long since I listened to Man Machine, I need to go back and compare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm
Little Danny:

@coel: It was actually "Radioactivity" from '75's Radio-Aktivität, so Kraftwerk mighta gotten there first
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
coelacanth∅:

i think it's conceivable that, given the elementary synthesized sounds in question, it was convergent evolution.
Avatar 9:46pm
Flash Strap:

They were insanely influential, that makes sense too
Avatar 9:47pm
still b/p:

Some of the sounds in L'Invasione reminded me of Welcome to the Machine elements.
Avatar 9:47pm
Flash Strap:

@C: or that, which is my favorite theory, generally, when these things come up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
melinda:

Great show Evan! I could listen to this for hours. I mean more than the standard 2 or 3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm
coelacanth∅:

LD it's weird -i have that album too, but don't know it. (i guess i got it after my initial infatuation with kraftwerk had simmered down?)
Avatar 9:48pm
Flash Strap:

thanks, Melinda! That's pretty much why I had to split it up into 2 shows, there's so much good stuff
Avatar 9:50pm
hyde:

there wasn't that much crossover from your old Umiliani comps either, which is amazing
Avatar 9:52pm
northguineahills:

Thank you so much for this Umiliani retrostpective. Faved for further research!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
coelacanth∅:

haha Evan, well it's the friendliest treatment to the artists we like! ...though it's really okay by me that people influence each-other. i often notice though, and have to point it out - because i'm a geek; but also to give credit where credit's due.
Avatar 9:53pm
Flash Strap:

Thanks Hyde, I worked pretty hard on that actually
  9:53pm
zonk ludlow:

Gratsi Evan. Illuminating as per usual. Have a great week until we meet again.
Avatar 9:53pm
hyde:

i mean, i love those comps. so i wouldn't have complained ;)
Avatar 9:54pm
still b/p:

Great wiring, this show had. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm
Little Danny:

Another brilliant show, Evan. You have great tastes in Umiliani! (Of course we all knew that)
Avatar 9:55pm
Flash Strap:

I feel the same way, C.

My great pleasure NGH

@hyde, I think there's a decent amount of crossover with the comps, but very little with that early show I did here which was basically an abridged version of the comps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
coelacanth∅:

i ought to cook some dinner.

...Thanks Evan! def have to check out what i missed here.
Avatar 9:56pm

Thanks LD! and thanks Zonk! and mucho gracias b/p
