DJ'ing out must be rough on gear. Mine never travel so I can get by with my knock-offs.

Hello Kris and friends
Avatar 10:11pm
northguineahills:

I need to find the power cord to my 45 turntable (I think left it in BK, need to ask the wifey). I have everything for my other 3 turntables.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Uncle Michael:

come back and get 'em some other day...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Little Danny:

@UM: Technics 1200s should be able to withstand the knocks of club DJing. Wait, is that what you're using, Kris?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
JtotheK:

Kris did you get your bid in for the Frank Wilson acetate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Little Danny:

Also that Joe-L was fantastic
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
JtotheK:

@Little Danny - agreed, enjoyed the Joe-L.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Uncle Michael:

I like the Audio Technica knockoffs of the 1200s because I can afford 'em? Mine don't earn me any money...and the ATs play 78s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Little Danny:

Aye, yeah, that 78 speed is sooooo sweet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Little Danny:

@J2tK: of course you do. You're a man of wealth and taste

greetings Kris; homies
Avatar 10:26pm
Kris Holmes:

UM, LD, yeah it is rough, they go in road cases but they still get bumped & every bump affects the tonearm bearings eventually so they get worn spots where the movement occasionally sticks. 3 were already a bit worn when I bought them when I arrived in California but they got me through for a while & were cheap. Two came in the container of stuff from NZ & that has definitely affected them. So yeah, all my 1200s are struggling right now. I can fix them all but it involves replacing the tonearms on them all. Which at $130 a pop isn't in my budget right now, so y'all are gonna have to excuse some skips LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Little Danny:

@Kris: damn, mate, that is some heavy 1200 use!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
JtotheK:

@danny - that's debatable ... b/w and now i'm going to have station manager ken's "sympathy for the devil" show from a few weeks back in my head...ha ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm

Hey all! I think the Technics tables were not that hot for a while, have read more about them recently, being discovered by audiophiles, which is generally a bad thing for prices.
Avatar 10:36pm

Late ahhhhhhrival....and immmmediate mmmmms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Uncle Michael:

I can't comprehend audiophiles desiring those road warriors. There are much better suited decks for living room listening, that are designed for a stationary existence.
Avatar 10:38pm
Kris Holmes:

who knows, i'm just glad I have a stockpile & the soldering skills to repair them as needed :)

If we have to make hard decisions about who gets in the bunker/shelter...you know, "after"....we want the dude with soldering skills. For music and other sundry necessities and amenities.

Avatar 10:46pm
Kris Holmes:

trying to convince Otis that he wants to lie in the lid of the 45 box more than jump on the turntables, so far so good......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
doctorjazz:

UM, that was the take on these in the audiophile world for the longest time. Seems some now think the direct drive makes for good solid speed solidity (and better sound, natch). Fussy belt drive tables were home gear for the longest time, but the Technics have gotten noticed.

As for getting taken for the bunker, afraid I'll be the last, won't be too much help with those kind of skills. Oh well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
Little Danny:

Over here we're all in favor of Otis getting directly involved with the turntables
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm happy with my techniques. don't know when it was made (sometime between the mid-70s and early 90s) and don't know (or care) what model it is.
i used to like the belt-driven semi-auto (lifts but doesn't return) duals. strictly for home use; but maybe not designed for as much use as i gave them.
then one needed a tone arm and the other a spindle, and though they looked and acted about the same the parts were not interchangeable; and by then dual had made repair parts unavailable. (& 'twas pre-internet, at least for me) so i chucked 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Little Danny:

I actually think I remember seeing that Eddie and Ernie, just 'cause it was weird to see E&E on Checker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Little Danny:

Go Otis go!
Avatar 10:54pm
Kris Holmes:

Good thing with Technics 1200s is basically the whole thing is readily available for replacement parts & upgrade modifications. So as a base deck for whatever they are actually pretty versatile.
