	♥ 12:57pm coelacanth∅: what i'm wondering is if i saw doa in new brunswick nj c.1984, or if i imagined that. the band aod (adrenaline overdose) was practically a house band at patrix and a friend says i'm confusing them; that doa rarely toured the states. but i remember aod and i feel sure i saw doa because i liked them a whole lot more. enough to buy a record.

(or did it?)

	♥ 2:11pm coelacanth∅: i remember doa and dks doing a show together near me, but i'd already seen dks and now i know for sure i'd seen doa already too (& mdc...i don't know if i saw false prophets) ...i rarely saw a band more than once if it was more than 3 bucks or so. my usual partners in crime felt the same and we skipped it.
	2:13pm John in Jersey: Also saw the Misfits, Ramones and Motorhead with a month or so. Think my ears rang for the rest of that summer.
	2:14pm northguineahills: @coel: until 10 years ago, my threshold was $5, since then it's been $7 (I can still find good shows down here for $5) Of course, I'll see bands more then once if they're one of my handful faves.

	2:17pm Diane Kamikaze: I saw the DKs and DOA together - I think it was at The World on LES, and there could have been another show at the Paramount in Staten Island as well, went to both! Many shows, not so many brain cells!

	2:21pm John in Jersey: Motorhead w/ Brian Robertson was scary loud. My teeth and stomach hurt. Saw them at the Royal Manor in North Brunswick. Saw a young and somewhat unknown James Hetfield get beaten up by a bouncer at that show. He deserved it.

	♥ 2:25pm coelacanth∅: heh, i probably saw you at some point. i was there just about every weekend for a few years from c.1980 - c.1983. i mixed it up with the court tavern, melody, dirt club, loop lounge occasionally and nyc venues; but usually would hit patrix at least one weekend night.
	♥ 2:27pm Coe: Loudest thing I ever heard was Black Label Socity open for Judas Priest. It was awful. After about 15 minutes of trying to ignore it and read I got up and walked out into the concourse of Brenden Byrne (that's right that's what I call it deal :) ) as far away as I could got a beer stuffed napkins in my ears and tried to continue to read and hope it would be over soon. Now this is from someone who has seen people perform with the sheer intention of disturbing their audience with noise and volume (and has enjoyed it)

	2:28pm Dean: Am I mistaken that Go4 rerecorded Entertainment! in its entirety some years later? Some other Go4 album? Or was it Wire?
	2:30pm Diane Kamikaze: By band was called Children In Adult Jails. Noisy, 3 gals, 1 guy. I drummed and sang. I'm sure we were in the same place, I went to plenty of gigs there and all the venues you mentioned. We played our first gig at the Dirt Club in Bloomfield.

	♥ 2:31pm Coe: Yeah I always have a book or two on my phone. They come in handy especially when I'm at a show alone and there is someone plying that I have absolutly no interest in. If I don't have something to engage myself I start to get boerd and then boerdem turns into crackiness whcih is not so much of a problem now but back in the day crankiness could turn into reall trouble :)
	2:32pm BronwynB: the loudest thing i ever heard was some shitty hardcore band called bath salts doing their final show ever (thank god) in a basement in philly. i left when they started randomly slamming/lurching into audience members.
	2:36pm Dean: Loudest: Angel at Santa Monica Civic. Maybe I've heard louder shows, but this one was painful.
	♥ 2:36pm Rich in Washington: @BronwynB: That's hilarious! I've been to a few shows like that, where the bands misinterpret people clearing out for them being so awesome/intense/hardcore.

	2:38pm mb: Boris with Merzbow was the loudest band I ever encountered in a club. They were great but I had to leave after 3 songs. Soulfly was the loudest outdoor show and I did not leave for that. That was a great show for their debut album.
	♥ 2:38pm Stevel: Took my earplugs out for Motorhead's Ace of Spades encore, probably 15 years ago or more. Felt like I had a head full of water for the next 24 hours.
	♥ 2:40pm Rich in Washington: attended a crazy Noise show once, where one dude just squatted on the floor brandishing a grinder, throwing sparks, metal fragments, finally threw the grinder in some kind of fit of performance artist rapture - the whole audience finally fleeing the room - and then he's walking around later with this contented smirk, like he just KILLED with his act. In honesty, people didn't want to get killed, so left the asshole to his own devices (literary) .
	2:40pm Chris from DC: Mogwai at the 9:30 Club was so loud I left.
	♥ 2:41pm coelacanth∅: i've likely seen louder shows in small clubs and basements than the who in philly; but i was young and inexperienced and did not have ear plugs with me. i always have them now.
	2:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid: Loudest club-size show = probably swans at the 9:30 in DC, late 1980s (maybe 1990?). Distant 2nd place would be Merzbow at DC Arts Center, also late 1980s. Loudest larger event = Motörhead at the fairgrounds in Weedsport NY. Because Motörhead.
	♥ 2:41pm Rich in Washington: I too once saw Motorhead with Cromags and it was possibly the loudest rock show I've ever attended. I felt my ears going.

	♥ 2:27pm Coe: Loudest thing I ever heard was Black Label Socity open for Judas Priest. It was awful. After about 15 minutes of trying to ignore it and read I got up and walked out into the concourse of Brenden Byrne (that's right that's what I call it deal :) ) as far away as I could got a beer stuffed napkins in my ears and tried to continue to read and hope it would be over soon. Now this is from someone who has seen people perform with the sheer intention of disturbing their audience with noise and volume (and has enjoyed it)

	2:30pm Diane Kamikaze: By band was called Children In Adult Jails. Noisy, 3 gals, 1 guy. I drummed and sang. I'm sure we were in the same place, I went to plenty of gigs there and all the venues you mentioned. We played our first gig at the Dirt Club in Bloomfield.

If I don't have something to engage myself I start to get boerd and then boerdem turns into crackiness whcih is not so much of a problem now but back in the day crankiness could turn into reall trouble :)

	2:38pm mb: Boris with Merzbow was the loudest band I ever encountered in a club. They were great but I had to leave after 3 songs. Soulfly was the loudest outdoor show and I did not leave for that. That was a great show for their debut album.

	♥ 2:40pm Rich in Washington: attended a crazy Noise show once, where one dude just squatted on the floor brandishing a grinder, throwing sparks, metal fragments, finally threw the grinder in some kind of fit of performance artist rapture - the whole audience finally fleeing the room - and then he's walking around later with this contented smirk, like he just KILLED with his act. In honesty, people didn't want to get killed, so left the asshole to his own devices (literary) .
