Hello Bob and bobettes
  9:03am dan:

Morning Bob. Great opener with Duncan Browne
Avatar 9:05am anerandros:

hello everyone. this song it's a fantastic continuum from SP. and an amazing song too.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:05am WilliamfromDumont:

Mornin' Bob and all. Sunny Murray RIP
Avatar 9:06am SmokinJ:

Mornin' bb & crew... 8-)
  9:09am Listener Robert:

Maybe I should listen more to Shrunken Planet, anerandos. In the past year I've often woken up earlier than I want, and wind up listening to SP, but usually I wake up later and tune in Jerry Hickey's infomercial -- professional interest.
  9:10am dan:

Denny Laine in between the Moodies and Wings. Seldom heard in the mainstream.
  9:11am Doc Rock:

Good Morning Bob & All Listeners. Hey There JD! How Ya Doing?
  9:13am MikeyinNC:

Thanks for playing Denny Laine, Bob. Good stuff & as mentioned by Dan, rarely (if ever) heard.
Avatar 9:14am anerandros:

Listener Robert, SP is the place on the Internet where morning people and late people (like me) from all over the world meet :P Definitely my fav show on wfmu.
  9:15am Guy Walker:

Moring all. Wm from D: Very bummed to hear about Sonny Murray
Avatar 9:15am anerandros:

oh gosh... SPAM on wfmu chat?!?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am melinda:

hi everyone!
  9:16am Listener Robert:

See, even with archives and so on, the lead-in is still important. I was just thinking about when I was visiting out here (where I live now, WMFU reception-land, then WHDC) 20 yrs.ago, sitting in my car in their driveway and inviting my friends' then 9 YO son Drew to "lower his musical taste) on a Wed. afternoon by listening to Irwin's Incorrect Music hour. Then Bob Brainen's opening theme (same as now) came on, and Drew laughed at the xylophone bits. See, the lead-in programming primed him to find whatever came next as funny.
  9:18am Guy Walker:

You mean Sunny. The piece I sent before is not spam, but a US military release of some interviews with musicians being sold on ebay. Chill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am melinda:

Nice story, Robert.
Avatar 9:18am anerandros:

Apologies.
  9:19am dan:

I had to look this band up. It's fronted by Col. Bruce Hampton, who sadly dropped dead at his own 70th birthday gala.
  9:20am Santos L Halper:

Thanks for the Col. Bruce Bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am melinda:

Hank & Tim is my favorite opener.
  9:22am dan:

My favorite kind of Peanuts special, is where it's dubbed by ebonics.
Avatar 🥁 9:23am duke:

I hate Christmas music. Bah Humbug. But I like this Vince Guaraldi cut.
  9:24am dan:

@duke, What about Father Christmas by The Kinks?
Avatar 🥁 9:26am duke:

ANYTHING by the Kinks is OK with me. I just hate the stuff that plays in stores from Thanksgiving until Christmas.
  9:28am dan:

@duke The worse is Bruce Springsteen doing Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, but I'm saying that because I HATE Bruce Springsteen.
  9:30am choggie:

Rockin' this here joint, wake and bake, babies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Fuzzy:

Guy only knows one solo, apparently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am melinda:

Vince Guaraldi is excellent xmas music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Fuzzy:

Just noticed, though, that this predates "Rock Around The Clock." It's proto, man!
  9:34am dan:

@melinda, Vince Guaraldi is great music, but unfortunately it compliments the dullest animation specials of all time.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:39am WilliamfromDumont:

Is it just me or has FMU's signal gone kaplooie?
  9:41am mrmucho:

no signal 91.1 FM
  9:41am dan:

Tiny Tim, Miriam Makeba, Dick Shawn, Johnny "Guitat" Watson, Tommy Cooper, Rebop Kwaku Baah and Zero Mostel all died in the company of their audiences.
  9:41am Guy Walker:

KEN!
Avatar 9:42am northguineahills:

Sonny Murray died. Arrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!
  9:43am medson:

No signal here on 91.1 either
Avatar 9:44am Snortley:

91.1 signal is fine, but there's no audio on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am melinda:

@dan I haven't seen the specials since I was a kid, and I liked them back then, but I don't know if they would hold up. The music really helped.
  9:44am Guy Walker:

Sunny, not Sonny.
Avatar 🥁 9:46am duke:

On the soundtrack for New York Eye And Ear Control he's listed as Sonny Murray
  9:46am winston72:

what happened to the sound (signal)?? Not hearing anything.
Avatar 9:47am northguineahills:

@duke: I actually have that album on vinyl.
Avatar 9:47am Snortley:

Perhaps the line to the 91.1 transmitter is down.
  9:48am dan:

You should play Traffic's "Berkshire Poppies", all of the Small Faces' do the backup vocals.
  9:49am Guy Walker:

NY Ear and I are wrong.
  9:49am Jeff:

Hey Doc, late night - listening and sleeping at same time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Ken From Hyde Park:

There ought to be a phone number or text number to contact and inform the station about outages in case the DJ isn't monitoring the board.
  9:50am queems:

my house is very quiet
  9:50am Guy Walker:

email Ken station manager and tell him the signal is out.
Avatar 9:50am northguineahills:

now I want to look how he's spelled on other albums (I believe remember reading that's it's been listed as both), but my vinyl is still in boxes. Hopefully cds will be out by next weekend and the vinyl by January,
Avatar 9:54am Bob Brainen:

91.1 Off the air - THANKS we're workin' on it!
Anyone listening on 91.9?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:54am WilliamfromDumont:

It's Sunny. Anything otherwise is incorrect.
  9:55am Guy Walker:

I already said that, they don't want to believe.

  9:59am McGreivey:

91.1 is silent.
Avatar 10:00am SmokinJ:

bb: How about some Otis on this the day before the anniversary of his death.. He passed on a snowy day just like today about 80 miles from me in Madison,WI. RIP Mr. Soul..
Avatar 10:01am northguineahills:

The version I have of Ghosts has Milford Graves on percussion (but it was the first rerelease, not the 50th anniversary edition).
  10:02am Handy H:

91.9 also no sound.
Avatar 🥁 10:02am duke:

On discogs, the album cover has it wrong, but the personnel listing has it right.
  10:04am McGreivey:

91.9 has crickets as well.
  10:07am Dean:

Damn, Sunny Murray gone!
Avatar 10:08am Michael Shelley:

91.1 back on !
  10:08am Morgan:

Back on the air in south Brooklyn! Morning all! Thanks Ken!
Avatar 10:08am northguineahills:

For further confusion, there's Sonny Blount (the o would change to a u in a way).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am -Ken:

The snowpocalypse knocked out our T1 audio circuit so we are now broadcasting the MP3 stream.. 91.1 and 91.9 should both be back up, with worse audio than usual. Thanks for the reports everybody.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:11am WilliamfromDumont:

I can't watch the Sullivan reruns. Why can't they just show entire episodes?
  10:12am dan:

It's George Young. He passed away the month before Malcolm.
  10:13am dan:

Alexander Young was another sibling who was in music. His band Grapefruit was on the Apple label.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:18am WilliamfromDumont:

What about the Sun Ra meets Blues Project doing Batman inspired music knock-off LP?
  10:18am Ricky:

I can still hear ya Bob!
  10:19am Doc Rock:

Luciano Pavarotti + U2?!!
  10:19am Ricky:

...and it's sounding really good.
  10:20am dan:

@Don Rock. Pavarotti and Bono. Talk about the great meeting the humdrum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Greg from ZONE 5:

Happy Snow Day, Bob and all!
  10:21am miles:

I forgot about Boulders!
  10:22am MikeyinNC:

So that's where the sound at the beginning of Wings' Silly Love Songs came from - Manfred Mann's Machines!
  10:22am dan:

From Paul Jones to Mike D'Abo. Personally, I'm more of a fan of the former.
Avatar 10:23am northguineahills:

@WilliamfromDumont: That was a fun album. I liked how Liz Berg used it for bed music.
Avatar 10:25am BronwynB:

good morning fellow BB and everyone!
Avatar 10:30am Bob Brainen:

Thanks Ken!
  10:33am SeanG:

Morning folks!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am melinda:

Certain Women is my DVD for tonight!
  10:42am dan:

Graham Gouldman is Ringo's new bassist in the All Starr Band
  10:43am Listener Robert:

Small as it is, NJ is still very diverse. I'm now in a rural part where skies can get very starry. Soooo pretty. Only now I'm about to be homeless -- well, have to make a new arrangement now that listener Steve (housemate the past yr.) is in hospice following a stroke. I think his daughter gave him no other choice than institutionalization, even though his condition is not that bad, but without resuming hemodialysis he will die. He wanted to return home, but she has power of attorney.
Avatar 10:43am Nanker de Tucson:

Love the Brian Jones work. Great idea to feature him in near future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Ken From Hyde Park:

Weather report from Dutchess County: Snowfall has commenced.
  10:45am Santos L Halper:

Dug that Reason to Cry, who's the writer?
  10:46am Jeff:

The opening to “I Fell” sounded like it was going to be Laura Nyro doing “Stoney End” or something
  10:52am dan:

I swear I thought this was a man singing. I knew Joni Mitchell wrote the song, just didn't know it was her voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Greg from ZONE 5:

Perfectly soundtracking this snowfall! I'm busy staring out the window while my veggie sausages are burning…
Avatar 10:54am BronwynB:

hey, we could use more choral music on fmu! Thanks for this, Bob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am queems:

i loooooove choral music
  10:55am dan:

Next week or by Christmas Bob, you should play Steeleye Span's "Gaudete", a perfect song for the Christmas holiday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am melinda:

I'm looking forward to snow later today.
Avatar 🥁 11:00am duke:

Thanks Bob. Great show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Ken From Hyde Park:

The choral piece was pretty good, despite the lack of cowbell.
  11:27am medson:

Los Straitjackets were amazing last night. Nick Lowe looks and sounds great as well.
  2:33pm Marie:

Great show, Bob. Your shows have become an important part of my weekend--I am always a little sad when the end. And I love to hear your take on different musicians, like Elvis. It's a beautiful snowy day. Thanks, man!
