That image sent me to my copy of Reyner Banham's book about Los Angeles architecture. There is a handful of similar, not identical, houses depicted there. LA? Certainly an inspiration for Hockney.

I have such a soft spot for photography that captures the peculiar beauty of the suburbs. Welcome, @Dean!

Source? I'm curious as to the site. Is it LA? Palm Springs?

Well! Not a house, a business office in Irvine, no less! Irvine is a fairly bizarre part of SoCal, a huge ranch subdivided into tract housing and these industrial parks, not to mention UC Irvine, which has its own architectural distinctions. That Derrida taught there at the end of his life is fitting.

Thinking about going to a show tonight where I know nothing about the artists, but everything I've experienced there before has been beyond copacetic. I just need to find gloves to ride my bike (getting down to freezing tonight). I'm getting old for weeknite shows!

If the address in the caption/ID for the building is correct, that building is not only replaced, but the whole neighborhood as reflected in the windows has -- no surprise -- done changed a whole lot.

I used to put mittens on sometimes on for cold rides, because no glove I owned could hold out the worst cold. Mittens are not a friend to dexterity, though.

Weeknight shows, particularly Monday night shows, are damn tough, @NGH.
Ahoy, @SBP!

Once upon a time, weeknight shows didn't make any difference at all.

I feel obliged to support the local creative music scene here. There's usually local artists, national, and sometimes interenational artists.

A Guy Called Gerald, the way back machine just took me back.
