Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Sam Segal:

Heya, @Scraps! What's good?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Scraps:

Not much. Hurts very badly today. Trying to listen to soothing music. (This qualifies!)
Avatar 9:10pm coelacanth∅:

hey Sam and Scraps and others
Avatar 9:11pm coelacanth∅:

good to hear that de la soul track again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Sam Segal:

Sending healing sounds your way, @Scraps!
Howdy, @Coel!
Avatar 9:19pm coelacanth∅:

that picture is crazy! do you know where that is Sam? did you notice there's no inner hand rail on those stairs? do you think my horse is in there? (gasping?)
Avatar 9:22pm coelacanth∅:

{...do you see the person looking out?}
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Sam Segal:

The photo was taken by Wayne Sorce in Chicago in 1975. Not sure where in Chicago though. I'd recommend contacting Mr. Sorce regarding your horse. Seems entirely possible that the poor thing could be lost in there still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Sam Segal:

Wait, where is the person looking out? This feels like Where's Waldo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Scraps:

This is so african-guitar music
Avatar 9:24pm coelacanth∅:

i could be wrong, but it looks like it to me.
...i feel like if i tell you i'm spoiling something!
Avatar 9:24pm still b/p:

I wanna race somebody up those stairs! Like Whitney Houston sez,"Ooooh, I wanna race with somebody...A qualifyin' HEAT with somebody!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Scraps:

I love this!
Avatar 9:25pm coelacanth∅:

i'll do it! let's go find it
Avatar 9:27pm coelacanth∅:

yeh the instrumentation is like sorta zimbabwe, sorta nigeria; but the vox are ...okay nigerian. (?)
Avatar 9:28pm coelacanth∅:

(probably totally off)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Sam Segal:

Hey, @SBP! Speaking of Whitney Houston...I just found out that one of her first singles was a guest vocal feature on a Bill Laswell and Archie Shepp joint by Laswell's Material group. Did everyone but me know that already? Seemed to insane to be true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Sam Segal:

We're in Kenya right now, in fact!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Scraps:

(I think you are totally on, coel)

I got many many candles at Goodwill today. Because you can never have enough candles.
Avatar 9:29pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha! (laughing at meself)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Scraps:

I knew that, because I knew early Material, not because I know anything
Avatar 9:31pm coelacanth∅:

love this one too...and i know where it's from!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Scraps:

Whitney came from a musical/vocal family; Thelma, etc
Avatar 9:34pm still b/p:

She must have been younger than young at the time?

Woulda been fun to drive neighbors a little crazy every so often by getting a couple friends and going up and down the three curly ways -- one on each -- singing "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm Scraps:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Scraps:

not Thelma. Jeez
Avatar 9:36pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha sbp - why?!!
(why that song?)
Avatar 9:38pm still b/p:

You'll get it.
Avatar 9:42pm coelacanth∅:

...and by the way -i'm going for the middle one. it looks like it's rotting away a little less

- so, maybe it's not a person in the window?... middle level, right apartment, left window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Sam Segal:

Oh now I see what you're talking about. Kinda looks like a cat to me, @Coel!
Avatar 9:45pm coelacanth∅:

Junior Byles is so criminally unsung. several of my most favorite reggae songs are his.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Sam Segal:

The tone of the keyboard in that JB tune is what got me.
Avatar 9:47pm coelacanth∅:

heh well, it may not be a person, but to me it looks more like a person than a cat
Avatar 9:47pm still b/p:

I couldn't see no one a'peepin' out, even in a bigger version. Many ghostie maybes of reflection and things behind windows. And, hey, let's get the door removed off that fridge for safety.
Avatar 9:49pm coelacanth∅:

his "the long way" is just exquisite in it's subtlety. one of my top 10 reggae songs probably.
Avatar 9:50pm coelacanth∅:

NO! don't open that fridge! my friend's in there...er, changing his pants...
9:54pm Dave in Vermont on the phone:

Avatar 9:55pm still b/p:

Double-dog Frigi-DARE ya to look in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Sam Segal:

  9:58pm Gilly Siegel:

I've crawled out of the corner of purgatory where I isolate myself to join the radio waves, how's it hanging Sam?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Scraps:

seven favorite albums of 2017 (a fungible list, especially when I haven't heard 99% of them!)

Iglooghost - Neō Wax Bloom

Angles 9 - Disappeared Behind the Sun

Yowie - Synchromysticism

Jlin - Black Origami

Gorilla Mask - Iron Lung

Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra - Vula

Sayohimebou - 卡拉OK♫スターダスト東風
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Sam Segal:

Welcome to non-purgatory, @Gilly! I am good. My upper-left-most back hurts, but that's okay cause I am in the Horse Zone now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Sam Segal:

Love both the Angles 9 and Jlin records. The others on your list I am going to have to check out. Thanks, @Scraps!
Avatar 10:02pm coelacanth∅:

i like this Wayne Sorce. this one thrills me too. (not in the ink spots or mills bros. kind of way)
Avatar 10:11pm still b/p:

I know what the engine sounds like in the left car and the right car, and kind of the middle car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Scraps:

The last one of the seven I listed you can get for free (or up to anything, of course) on this page:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Scraps:

It’s like a musical sugar rush. (Not my observation, but true.)
Avatar 10:22pm northguineahills:

Billa Bronx, sounds like old skool jungle, and I've yet to hear of them.
Avatar 10:23pm northguineahills:

@Scraps: Are you a god??? (super happy thanks for the link!!!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Scraps:

a goddette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Sam Segal:

Heya, @NGH! The story behind that Billa Bronx record is pretty interesting actually. Not legit skool, but utilizing some hardware from '99. Check out the background on the EP here: astronautico.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 10:26pm northguineahills:

wunderbar, Sam, danke!
Avatar 10:29pm northguineahills:

mierde, that was dark, but w/ a touch of therapeutic uptliftingness.
Avatar 10:29pm northguineahills:

Ka Baird doesn't sound what I'd expect from Drag City.
Avatar 10:33pm northguineahills:

@Scraps: I'm not sure I qualify for mere mortal status, let alone junior god or goddette status.
Avatar 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

everybody, together...
Avatar 10:38pm northguineahills:

Just check mathew warwick for "Heavy Metal".
  10:39pm Gilly Siegel:

Do you listen to Aphex Twin?
Avatar 10:40pm coelacanth∅:

Sam, one of the worst songs to be heard on wfmu...and many of the "likes" are pretend beings and multi-profile beings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Sam Segal:

Oh, I am quite familiar with Matt's sick prank. I'd totally forgotten that was an option...I wonder how many it's wracked up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Sam Segal:

@Gilly: Yes, most definitely. Aphex Twin was one of the first electronic acts I ever got into.
Avatar 10:45pm coelacanth∅:

12_?, 13_?... but yeah, it's joke.
sadly but humorously, his brainwashing has resulted in many listeners actually liking it and being quite defensive of it!
Avatar 10:47pm northguineahills:

Aphex Twin was the first electronic music w/ rhythm in it I ever listened to (as Polygon Window) and liked. That opened a hell of a gateway for me.
Avatar 10:49pm coelacanth∅:

wfmu listeners are sheeple too. if a dj plays it, they'll decide they like it. it's become cool to like it, whatever "it" is.
...(one listener once posted that he likes all the music wfmu plays. sad but true.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Sam Segal:

Hmmmm...my belief is that no music is cool and all music is good.
Avatar 10:58pm northguineahills:

I'm very close to that sentiment, Sam, but I believe there is terrible music.
  11:00pm Gilly Siegel:

Goodnighteth, Friends of the vast interweb radio Omniverse, have a good jam.
Avatar 11:01pm northguineahills:

TBH, coel, I like Heavy Metal non-ironically before Matt was even on the air. It might help that I wasn't musically aware when it came out, but sometime, almost 20 years ago, I went through a classic rock stage. I even dj'ed classic rock (even at Tonic). As Dj Olive told me, I'm appropriately inappropriate, but genuinely like everything I play/like (something I like about UM).
Avatar 11:03pm coelacanth∅:

Sam, i agree with part one! part 2? well when music is made for the sole purpose of getting rich or getting "bitches" and it also happens to be made by someone with no singing or musical talent; and it incites anxiety and aggression in people - i don't think it's good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Sam Segal:

Fair thee well, @Gilly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Scraps:

All I know is when I like it, don’t try to tell me I shouldn’t
Avatar 11:05pm northguineahills:

happy slumbers Gilly!
Avatar 11:05pm coelacanth∅:

'night Gilly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Scraps:

because that is almost the shortest path to me disliking you
  11:06pm slawooy:

This one! Fire works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Scraps:

(though if you’re young, I maybe will give a snort and a pass)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Sam Segal:

Yeah, definitely don't sleep on this record, @Slawooy. Revolutionary jazz for 2017!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Scraps:

This is intreeeeeeeeeging....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Scraps:

(I lit a candle I bought today scented as “salted gingersnaps”)
Avatar 11:15pm coelacanth∅:

ngh, and i like some things that get me laughed at!
i wouldn't tell you"(takin' a ride)" isn't good...even though i think it's contrived and ill-informed. (along the lines of peter paul & mary singing "i dig rock and roll music") it still has some good things about it. i think..!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Scraps:

(and I’m microwaving Trader Joe’s Lamb Vindaloo — the nearest I can get to Indian food in Snohomish County, Washington)
  11:23pm Dean:

Scraps, You can do Indian food on your own with produce from TJs. Chicken/curry/ginger/garlic/broth/rice/peas/potatoes/cinnamon/nutmeg...trust me, it's good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Scraps:

I do that occasionally. But it’s hard to cook one-handed (my right side is paralyzed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Scraps:

(and it’s hard to keep the kitchen equipped, and hard to keep up basic foodstuffs..... it’s much easier to “cook” instantly, I’m afraid. I miss cooking, but this way I have more time listening to music!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Sam Segal:

Scraps, estimating conservatively, I have probably eaten 59,000 TJ's Lamb Vindaloos in my life. Big fan over here!
  11:37pm Dean:

Got it. Yeah, one-handed is another level.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Scraps:

When I lived in New York, I estimate one-third of my cuisine was Indian. And vindaloo was hands-down my favorite.

Trader Joe’s is actually okay, for a microwave. Tasty. Not hot enough, but I knew that going in (sigh...)
Avatar 11:40pm coelacanth∅:

big fan of tj's frozen palak paneer. and the fish korma is not bad. (better than expected with low expectations) the sauce is very good. the fish, though okay, kind of detracts from it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Scraps:

The fish was actually okay, and I was expecting bad.
Avatar 11:42pm coelacanth∅:

ha- yeah
  11:43pm Dean:

I like to cook, and I do so often. My 90YO mother, who once loved to cook, isn't quite able to do so anymore. I try to supply her with TJ frozen and fresh dishes, e.g., beef Bourgoinone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Scraps:

@Dean: yeah. :-) I didn’t know how many things that were much harder to impossible one-handed. Chopping, just to take one simple one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Scraps:

Tying a knot: pretty much impossible.
Avatar 11:45pm coelacanth∅:

i don't eat lamb, but i wish to taste vindaloo, because someone who meant a whole lot to me's surname was (not spelled, but pronounced correctly as) "vindaloo".
  11:47pm Dean:

Vindaloo isn't necessarily lamb, though that's one of the best. I think it means simply "very very hot." You could do a chicken or pork vindaloo, too.
  11:49pm Dean:

I recall dining at an Indian restaurant, west side Los Angeles, where I was asked how hot I wanted my dish. I was offered an 11--pre-Spinal Tap, mind you--and I accepted. It was HEAVEN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Scraps:

Yeah, for some reason, Lamb Vindaloo rules the roost, but you can make any meat vindaloo
Avatar 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

-not that i like the idea of you risking getting injured by a knife; but i'm imagining some kind of cutting board with clips on it of different sizes and tensions -so you could shove a veggie or whatever under the edge of the clip to hold it so you could chop it.
  11:51pm Dean:

1976, first trip to London, rain was dumping as we arrived at the hotel. We headed out to a restaurant for a badly needed meal before bed. Indian. I had Saag Ghost, i.e., lamb with spinach and curry. My first taste of Indian. Glorious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Scraps:

coel, there are contraptions for one-handed people in the kitchen, and I have some of them. Mostly they’re expensive, but sometimes they turn a job from impossible to doable
Avatar 11:55pm coelacanth∅:

@11.47 that's good to know...though i don't eat any flesh except fish. i can get creative with traditional recipes. i love to cook and i've taught myself how to make much more healthful versions of traditionally unhealthful dishes taste just as good.
Avatar 11:57pm coelacanth∅:

Scraps that's good to know...though i'm not oblivious to how tiring it may get.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Scraps:

I’m sorry, did I say that loud?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Scraps:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Scraps:

Cheers! Thank you, Sam!
Avatar 12:01am coelacanth∅:

heh - i wonder how many less people i'd offend if i were practiced at the art of emoticons.
Avatar 12:02am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam
