	4:44pm Lyle: Pete Jolly, there's a story. Hadn't thought of poor Pete in a while, not since I saw that he had passed in '04. Sitting here now, it's hard to imagine the relatively young men we were in 1975, when we both were temporarily with the Kitty Carlisle Comedy Caravan. Kitty was a gas to work with, and there were other greats on that brief tour of the northern tier of states. Arlene Galonka, Peggy Cass, Fanny Flagg, and Coy Byner (John's brother) were part of that traveling troop of funny folks. Pete Jolly and I were in a small support ensemble that backed the comedians with various fanfares, instrumental accents, flourishes, sound effects, catcalls, and individual theme songs for each artist. The think I remember about Pete was his penchant for tapioca. It wasn't easy to find on the road, but Pete had a skill for ferreting it out, no matter where we were. I recall he woke me up one night in my room at a Motel 6, I believe we were in Pembina, ND. "Taste THIS," he said, shoveling a spoonful of warm tapioca into my mouth before I could get my slippers on. Of course, it was delicious, and Pete was pleased and proud to have found good tapioca in such a far flung locale. Not long after, we parted ways. Pete took up with Dick Contino and I (as I recall) hooked up with Pat Suzuki for a quick 9-date run through Manitoba. Life was sweet then, and Pete made it extra Jolly, indeed.

One of the funniest emails I ever received from my friend Don Brockway was also one of the shortest. Sent in July 2008, the subject line was: "Good news about Bozo." In the body of the message was simply a URL—which linked to an Associated Press obit for Larry Harmon.
