This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Avatar 6:52pm Flash Strap:

Hi Geezerette! great to see you, about to get started in just a minute
Avatar 6:59pm Flash Strap:

OK here we go, let's hear some sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Scraps deSelby:

hey h’lo
Avatar 7:04pm Flash Strap:

Hey there Scraps!
Avatar 7:09pm Flash Strap:

Man, I love playing Chalkie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm Scraps:

Jayne Cortez! She’s so great — several album are great! Besides the ornette musician: she’s a great poet, and vocalist. I’m so admirable to her — sorry, my language is broken. Thank you!
Avatar 7:12pm Flash Strap:

She's so brilliant, Scraps, I'm in total agreement
Avatar 7:14pm Little Danny:

Welcome back Flash!

Got ya on in the background as I pull records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Scraps:

I hadn’t heard Chalkdust, and I want to hear more. RateYourMusic has very little
Avatar 7:15pm Flash Strap:

Hi LD! How you been, pal?

Chalkdust is hard to come by, Scraps, but he's essential!
Avatar 7:15pm Flash Strap:

they call him Chalkdust because he's a professor, famously fired for being a Calypsonian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Scraps:

Fired? Aw.
Avatar 7:17pm Flash Strap:

love this song
Avatar 7:18pm Flash Strap:

it ultimately played out in his favor, I think. This was the early 70s

he's written some really interesting books on Trinidad's cultural history & traditions
Avatar 7:19pm geezerette:

great party in here!
Avatar 7:21pm Flash Strap:

GONNA DO WHAT?
Avatar 7:21pm Flash Strap:

ORGANIZE!
Avatar 7:21pm geezerette:

haha, memorizing chant.
Avatar 7:23pm Flash Strap:

2017 we started HOT here in the Explorers Room
Avatar 7:23pm geezerette:

party hard a couple more days and then figure this mess out.
Avatar 7:24pm geezerette:

feel ten years older. sheesh.
Avatar 7:26pm Flash Strap:

i feel like my politics got particle-accelerated at least ten years this year. there's no going back now, I'm a Maoist 3rd-Worldist
Avatar 7:27pm Little Danny:

totally feel ya, Flash
Avatar 7:29pm northguineahills:

I'm definitely not a Maoist, but probably a 4th worldist.
Avatar 7:30pm Flash Strap:

haha Hi NGH!

I kid, but not that much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm doctorjazz:

Hey all, busy but just checking in.
Avatar 7:31pm Flash Strap:

Hi Doc! Great to see you
Avatar 7:34pm geezerette:

this is from triple canopy, looks interesting,very,..
www.canopycanopycanopy.com...

a new year's present for you all, later. worth at least a cruise through.
Avatar 7:40pm quinn:

i heard this show come on from the other room and yelled YAY
Avatar 7:40pm geezerette:

funny and...not.
Avatar 7:43pm Flash Strap:

Hi Quinn! you in the comments gets a Yay from me

@G: gonna have to read that!
Avatar 7:44pm Flash Strap:

the disastrous Neu! reunion doesn't get nearly enough credit for producing the unstable, gripping work that it did
Avatar 7:44pm Flash Strap:

*occasionally gripping, I should say
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Uncle Michael:

666!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Uncle Michael:

It's a clip show!
Avatar 7:50pm Flash Strap:

Uncle Michael! The Beast himself!
Avatar 7:50pm Little Danny:

re: Neu!
well now I'm curious
Avatar 7:51pm Flash Strap:

@LD: worth a listen!
Avatar 7:52pm geezerette:

HaHaHa!
Avatar 7:53pm Flash Strap:

we got a clip show here!
  7:54pm Quinn:

Clip shows featuring Roberto Cacciapaglia are my favorite kind of clip shows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Uncle Michael:

I should do a literal clip show. Three hours of me screwing stuff up and whining about it on mic....or just another show where for three hours, I screw stuff up...and whine about it on mic.
Avatar 7:56pm geezerette:

do it!
Avatar 7:57pm Flash Strap:

I would listen to either of those, and then overlay them and listen to them together as one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Uncle Michael:

I might actually have to revisit my humiliations for a clip show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Ike:

Hello. I like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm melinda:

hiya explorers!
Avatar 8:01pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Flash and Explorers
Avatar 8:02pm geezerette:

2017 was awful outside but it was spectacular in Woof-moolia.
Avatar 8:02pm still b/p:

"revisit my humiliations"....sounds like something included in standard recitations/obligatory statements in my young Catholichood.
Avatar 8:03pm Flash Strap:

Holy moly! hello friends Ike, Melinda, Coelacanth, B/P!
Avatar 8:03pm Flash Strap:

great to see you all this evening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Uncle Michael:

Adrian Belew is such a normal Joe if you follow him on FB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Scraps:

One of my favorite Wyatts.
Avatar 8:10pm Flash Strap:

Mine too, Scraps. This was one of my favorite shows to do
Avatar 8:12pm Flash Strap:

this surf set was a personal highlight, too. need more surf in 2018
Avatar 8:13pm geezerette:

wow,wow,wow. :)
Avatar 8:13pm geezerette:

surfin' at night by the pier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Scraps:

The ipad version of Playlist for Explorers (nice name, that) is ... complicated. Eventually — like now — you (me) have to scroll scroll scroll to get to the part of the page (i.e., the bottom) to enter what me (you) want to say. I guess it (god) wants me (certainly not you) to really want to say something.

Yes.
Avatar 8:18pm still b/p:

Encountered at random and watched about 20 minutes of women's surf competition recently. Great stuff!
Avatar 8:19pm geezerette:

Scraps, that's just plain beautiful writing.
Avatar 8:19pm Flash Strap:

Sounds weird, Scraps, I've never checked out the page from an ipad. had no idea there was a pre-comment gauntlet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Uncle Michael:

Scraps, have you tried the app on the iPad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Scraps:

geezerette, thank you!!

Incidentally, I am washing dishes. Hm de hm hm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Scraps:

Uncle Michael, not in a long time. Last time it was fairly broken, in my experience, which is not really good for judging other people’s. I should try it again.
Avatar 8:27pm still b/p:

I have a less serious issue. At each refresh, there are large rectangular sections of the page behind the playlist box/text layout that stay light blue instead of the green texture. If I move the slider slightly, the background becomes normal and complete. Like jigglin' the handle.
Avatar 8:28pm Flash Strap:

This is really one of my all-time dub records, it's so low-key perfect
Avatar 8:43pm northguineahills:

It's been 18 months since I've had an iPad, but back then the app worked for me.
Avatar 8:45pm Flash Strap:

so good to hear this song again. it's so visceral
Avatar 8:45pm coelacanth∅:

jeez did i miss this show?
(i must have because i would've golded this star)
Avatar 8:46pm Flash Strap:

can't hurt to double-check! i really liked that show, personally
Avatar 8:50pm geezerette:

"Pop Purcell", :)
Avatar 8:51pm geezerette:

Those electronic women composers shows were just stunning.
Avatar 8:51pm Flash Strap:

oh, i know, what a little treasure
Avatar 8:51pm coelacanth∅:

just looked and i DID miss that one. i starred both the similarly themed shows that followed it too; and i think i heard both shows before. (Bill Mac fill-ins)
that one needs my attention, methinks.
Avatar 8:52pm Flash Strap:

thanks, G!
Avatar 8:53pm geezerette:

Coel, it's all soooo good.
Avatar 8:54pm geezerette:

ha, Evan, more than welcome.
Avatar 8:57pm still b/p:

Why...why is this Night Song on some kind of really right frequency for mind and soul?
Avatar 8:57pm coelacanth∅:

i know,g! that's why it's weird. i'm sure at some point in the 2nd and 3rd programs it was mentioned that there were 3; and i remember asking Evan to identify the women in the collages. i guess i just forgot.
Avatar 8:59pm Flash Strap:

@B/P: it's such an exciting find for me, I'm really glad you like it too!
Avatar 9:02pm Flash Strap:

may favorite non-reissue release of the year? quite probably
Avatar 9:08pm northguineahills:

I should probably turn on the heat. My jacket sleeves are getting damp washing the dishes. (Evan does great dishwashing soundtracks as mentioned by Scraps.).
Avatar 9:09pm Flash Strap:

it's god damn cold! turn on the heat man!
Avatar 9:10pm coelacanth∅:

so so so so so goooood
Avatar 9:10pm Flash Strap:

that guitar sound! it's out of control, it;s out of this world!
Avatar 9:11pm northguineahills:

you're going to laugh, but it's only 48F/9C here (It's been a wet day).
Avatar 9:12pm northguineahills:

It's supposed to get down to 32F/0C NYE, I get to wear my old winter gear!
Avatar 9:12pm Flash Strap:

oh that's not too bad. colder here in Bahama
Avatar 9:12pm still b/p:

That Compas Flon is a great effin' track!
Nearly down to 45 degrees in the bedroom early today! Heat isn't all the way off, but set to "Scroogey."
Avatar 9:15pm Flash Strap:

it's on fuckin fire the whole way through, that track
Avatar 9:17pm Flash Strap:

A Q U A T I C
Avatar 9:18pm coelacanth∅:

this song's hilarious!
Avatar 9:18pm still b/p:

If one hasn't the time to make a courting mixtape, this one song might do.
Avatar 9:20pm Flash Strap:

agreed, agreed, on both counts
Avatar 9:22pm coelacanth∅:

true that.
...one thing i'm glad about is that for every mixtape i made for anyone (friends; sister; aunt; lovers; hopefuls; exes...) i made a copy for myself.
Avatar 9:23pm Flash Strap:

smart
Avatar 9:23pm Flash Strap:

envying your forethought on this matter
Avatar 9:24pm Little Danny:

Trying to get on top of tonight's show, now jamming yer Umiliani
Avatar 9:24pm Flash Strap:

are you on tonight, LD?
Avatar 9:25pm Little Danny:

Yessir
Avatar 9:26pm Flash Strap:

i got some conflicting info on that, glad to know. I thought you were, based on your earlier comments
Avatar 9:27pm coelacanth∅:

Evan, there's been a few times that i listened to (or just looked at the playlist of) a tape i made for someone, years later, and realised what a bad idea certain choices were!
Avatar 9:28pm Flash Strap:

oh i bet! ME TOO
Avatar 9:32pm still b/p:

No coconut or honey stories, but I carried groceries home about two miles in a backpack today and wondered if the pair of bananners would freeze. I think they're OK. THEY'RE OK EVERYBODY!
Avatar 9:34pm Little Danny:

Haha, hi still b/p! Keep us updated
Avatar 9:34pm coelacanth∅:

Yay,sbp!
Avatar 9:35pm coelacanth∅:

...i need good walking shoes. (for pavement; i have decent "hiking" shoes)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Doug Schulkind:

Little Danny, are you doing your show tonight?
Avatar 9:37pm Little Danny:

@Doug: yes!
Avatar 9:38pm Little Danny:

So sorry Doug, I'm just now remembering that I'd originally needed a fill-in for tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh wait, I see your answer to Flash, above. I thought you needed a fill in for tonight. I just recommissioned your slot (which I had decommissioned).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Doug Schulkind:

We're all GOOD!
Avatar 9:43pm jaywbabcock:

3-week break?!? UNACCEPTABLE
Avatar 9:46pm Flash Strap:

Jay! I know, I'm so sorry to be long-absent like that. I have to go to Vermont and teach a drawing workshop
Avatar 9:47pm northguineahills:

Can't you just bring your lappy along w/ enough toons?
Avatar 9:49pm Flash Strap:

if only! i think they're gonna work me til i drop
Avatar 9:50pm Flash Strap:

just wanna say, this song has been played (by me) over and over this year and (for me) it has not lost its luster
Avatar 9:51pm Little Danny:

Thanks Flash, and thanks for another year of brilliant programming
Avatar 9:51pm Flash Strap:

right back at ya, my dear brother
Avatar 9:55pm Flash Strap:

this movie rules, by the way

Corbucci is a Compañero for sure
Avatar 9:57pm Little Danny:

Plop yer weary selves down, why dontcha? wfmu.org... All are enthusiastically welcomed!
Avatar 9:58pm still b/p:

You've scorched the ass of 2017 on its way out and rewarded all the year's grateful ears.
Avatar 9:58pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Evan!
Avatar 10:00pm Flash Strap:
