This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Jayne Cortez! She’s so great — several album are great! Besides the ornette musician: she’s a great poet, and vocalist. I’m so admirable to her — sorry, my language is broken. Thank you!

She's so brilliant, Scraps, I'm in total agreement

I hadn’t heard Chalkdust, and I want to hear more. RateYourMusic has very little
Avatar 7:15pm
Flash Strap:

Hi LD! How you been, pal?

Chalkdust is hard to come by, Scraps, but he's essential!
Avatar 7:15pm
Flash Strap:

they call him Chalkdust because he's a professor, famously fired for being a Calypsonian
Avatar 7:17pm
Scraps:

Fired? Aw.
Avatar 7:17pm
Flash Strap:

love this song
Avatar 7:18pm

it ultimately played out in his favor, I think. This was the early 70s

he's written some really interesting books on Trinidad's cultural history & traditions

Clip shows featuring Roberto Cacciapaglia are my favorite kind of clip shows!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Uncle Michael:

I should do a literal clip show. Three hours of me screwing stuff up and whining about it on mic....or just another show where for three hours, I screw stuff up...and whine about it on mic.
Avatar 7:56pm
geezerette:

do it!
Avatar 7:57pm

I would listen to either of those, and then overlay them and listen to them together as one

Avatar 8:17pm
Scraps:

The ipad version of Playlist for Explorers (nice name, that) is ... complicated. Eventually — like now — you (me) have to scroll scroll scroll to get to the part of the page (i.e., the bottom) to enter what me (you) want to say. I guess it (god) wants me (certainly not you) to really want to say something.

Yes.
Avatar 8:18pm
still b/p:

Encountered at random and watched about 20 minutes of women's surf competition recently. Great stuff!
Avatar 8:19pm
geezerette:

Scraps, that's just plain beautiful writing.
Avatar 8:19pm
Flash Strap:

Sounds weird, Scraps, I've never checked out the page from an ipad. had no idea there was a pre-comment gauntlet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Uncle Michael:

Scraps, have you tried the app on the iPad?
Avatar 8:22pm
Scraps:

geezerette, thank you!!

Incidentally, I am washing dishes. Hm de hm hm!
Avatar 8:25pm
Scraps:

Uncle Michael, not in a long time. Last time it was fairly broken, in my experience, which is not really good for judging other people’s. I should try it again.
Avatar 8:27pm
still b/p:

I have a less serious issue. At each refresh, there are large rectangular sections of the page behind the playlist box/text layout that stay light blue instead of the green texture. If I move the slider slightly, the background becomes normal and complete. Like jigglin' the handle.
Avatar 8:28pm
Flash Strap:

This is really one of my all-time dub records, it's so low-key perfect
Avatar 8:43pm
northguineahills:

It's been 18 months since I've had an iPad, but back then the app worked for me.

Those electronic women composers shows were just stunning.
Avatar 8:51pm
Flash Strap:

oh, i know, what a little treasure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
coelacanth∅:

just looked and i DID miss that one. i starred both the similarly themed shows that followed it too; and i think i heard both shows before. (Bill Mac fill-ins)
that one needs my attention, methinks.

thanks, G!

Why...why is this Night Song on some kind of really right frequency for mind and soul?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
coelacanth∅:

i know,g! that's why it's weird. i'm sure at some point in the 2nd and 3rd programs it was mentioned that there were 3; and i remember asking Evan to identify the women in the collages. i guess i just forgot.
Avatar 8:59pm
Flash Strap:

@B/P: it's such an exciting find for me, I'm really glad you like it too!

may favorite non-reissue release of the year? quite probably
