Evening, Irene.
  10:09pm
Dan:

Hi Irene, I've got your broadcast at 30% to drown out the edge on clown pres blah blah. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Irene Trudel:

It's been awfully quiet tonight-- especially since I just realized I'd somehow accidentally disabled commenting! Hope you're all well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi pantz and Dan. You've got the right idea, Dan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
pantz:

I wonder what the state of my radio is. I havent used one in so long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Irene Trudel:

As you can see, my old radio isn't doing so well.
Avatar 10:13pm
TDK60:

Hello, was going to say earlier I caught your drift in the first set! I had no intention of watching TV tonight. So this helps.
Avatar 10:14pm
Listening Out There:

Hello! Good program tonight...
  10:16pm
Bobby:

I was stuck in the no-chat zone. I am with you.
  10:16pm
Dan:

I just reversed the balance so you drown out the troll in chief.
Avatar 10:16pm
glenn:

god. isn't that fat bloviating fuckwad done his spiel yet?
  10:16pm
JakeGould:

Yeah, Irene’s show has been a nice balm since this State of the Union began.
Avatar 10:17pm
fleep:

It's been a terrific distraction so far.
  10:18pm
JakeGould:

Please be sure to have positive thoughts towards any child writing a current events report this week.

No one with a brain is watching the stupid speech
Avatar 10:19pm

on the plus side, it'll be the only state of the union trump ever delivers.

Dan:

Just a setup for Colbert
  10:20pm
JakeGould:

@glenn: Then what’s next? 2 years of Pence followed by another GOP clown?
  10:20pm
katharsis:

I just figured you were going real old school. Enjoying show thanks.
Avatar 10:21pm
glenn:

no idea. that's for you guys to figure out.
  10:21pm

Yes... enjoying your show... much better use of my time than listening to the Idiot in Chief

Hello Irene! Could not post from portable devices so actually have to sit up to drop a line but I know you appreciate the sacrifice.

JakeGould:

They are now chanting, “USA! USA! USA!”
  10:28pm
WoodsOfNewHampshire:

Irene, thanks for the public service/antidote to ignorance. Spending the night listening here and reading some Jim Harrison, whose dogs had more sense than the bag of hammers at the podium.
  10:32pm
Dan:

Irene, you"re amazing! Thx!
  10:32pm
JakeGould:

He’s also really leaning heavy on using the word “Citizens.” Talk about dog whistling. AND IT’S OVER!!!
Avatar 10:33pm
TDK60:

Irene, I see your old radio had shortwave; were you a listener to that?
Avatar 10:34pm
Kamp Climax:

this is the album! last week Irene played heliotrope off this album and it was a stunner and now this.

WoodsOfNewHampshire:

I loved that tune-yards song. What she does with melody kind of reminds me of Esperanza Spalding.
Avatar 10:38pm
Kamp Climax:

Irene, is the whole album as good as those two selections, cause last week you said you listened to it, but sort of said it was just interesting. The Perrudin album I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks all for the encouraging words. If I were home, the TV would be tuned to anything but that nonsense. TDK60, yes I did love short wave but was not an avid listener of any one station. I just loved tuning randomly and stumbling across something unusual. Much as I stumbled across that radio. I was about 9 or 10 and literally stumbled across it in a back path behind a furniture store. I presume it was stolen. I hid it in the bushes for a few days until my mother would let me take it home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Irene Trudel:

Kamp Climax, I just listened through Laura Perrudin's whole album yesterday. It's really wonderful. Wish I'd been able to see her live, opening for Becca Stevens a few weeks ago. Got there too late, so I bought it because Becca was praising her so highly.
Avatar 10:46pm
Kamp Climax:

I apologize but Perrudin/Stevens and the David Crosby appearance has turned my world upside down.
Avatar 10:46pm
TDK60:

Crosby?
Avatar 10:46pm
Kamp Climax:

It's like rickie Lee for the first time.
Avatar 10:48pm
Kamp Climax:

he was at the stevens/perrudin show, supposedly, and I trust my sources.
Avatar 10:48pm
TDK60:

And I see the FM band is tuned to just left of 92; "left of the dial."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
melinda:

Nice radio.
Avatar 10:50pm
TDK60:

Wait, all bands look to have a red line in the same place.
Avatar 10:52pm
Kamp Climax:

Ok, from tune-yards until now, this has been a set for the ages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Irene Trudel:

TDK60 and Kamp Climax, Crosby was at Becca's show but didn't perform.

beautiful show, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
coelacanth∅:

i had a radio similar to that one when i was around 10? and kept the 4 bands (the 4th one was uhf or something) at the same place because the numbers were mostly worn off and i figured if the fm got moved i'd know where to find my favorite station (wplj?) by the other needles.
Avatar 11:29pm
Kamp Climax:

Eno/Byrne wrote an album about Irene's younger life.

We need a marathon to fix Irene's radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm

weird, Irene - my friends and i found the one i had too! (i don't remember where...could've been the bushes...)one of my friends claimed it but soon traded it to me for something i had, and i used it for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm

I have an old Worldstar radio. it has 2 TV settings, short wave, FM, AM, AIR/PB/WB setting that I have no idea what it does. I use it to listen to NPR

yeah my mother used to tell us to get outside unless it was raining. i wonder where parents still do that.
  11:41pm
Richard_D:

it only takes 402 D cell batteries. I haven't changed em in a year with no sign of going dead anytime soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
coelacanth∅:

402 seems like a lot of batteries
  11:44pm
Richard_D:

Oh, I almost forgot it has CB as well as A PA. It only weighs about 202 lbs.
Avatar 11:44pm

A guy named richard_d playing with old shortwaves means we actually do have Aphex Twin listening in with us to Irene's show. Hell yes!
Avatar 11:44pm

There my point is proven.
  11:45pm

ok, I might be off 2 or 3 batteries give it take
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm

my father can build you a go cart with a trailer for it. you want me to ask?
Avatar 11:52pm
Kamp Climax:

We all listen to apex, so we agree your only as hip as a pet rock. That was never a point of contention.
  11:53pm
Richard_D:

I could use a trailer. then I make it an old school karaoke machine.
