Until last year where I buy coffee a cup cost $1.70. I routinely handed over two bucks, put the quarter in the tip jar and the nickel in my pocket. Come the New Year the price went up to two bucks. john simon sure is controversial, but when i contacted hundreds of theater critics to review a tiny production i was involved with, his 91-year-old self was one of the only people to actually give me the dignity of a reply. he declined, saying something along the lines of "if i give you a review they'll all want one," but he was very cordial.
