Seems that Lee Morgan and his band can basically do no wrong

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Michael 98145:

i'm sure i first heard guerilla toss here. love them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Parq:

"Teats and No Phallus" would be a good name for a band. I really think so. Y'know, someday I should do a Coachella-style poster for a fest with all the random phrases I've identified as good band names.
  3:31pm Jan-Willem:

Ha! great to hear a dutch song on WFMU!
Avatar 3:31pm Irwin:

The War on Adverbs would be a great name for a band. Or this radio show. Or a song. Or a book. Or a restaurant.
Avatar 3:32pm Irwin:

J-W: GJ Blom is the leader of the Beau Hunks Orchestra.
  3:33pm Dean:

G-J Blom sounds [adverb warning!] amazingly a lot like early Jethro Tull.
Avatar 3:34pm Irwin:

Dean ftw!
  3:36pm andrewb:

I know Beau Hunks From the Little Rascals project. Brilliant band.
  3:37pm Jan-Willem:

Thanks Irwin, another great discovery from wfmu. crazy to discover music from my own country on an oversees radiostation. :-)
Avatar 3:39pm Irwin:

Tjhe Blom albjum is terrifijk. Strange in a Tom Waijts sort of way.

Asking idly -- is the "sic" in the original title of the song or did you playfully add it?

  4:05pm Dean:

War on Hyperbole
  4:06pm Tim:

Generally, anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Parq:

Dean, I had briefly thought about "cunningly". I probably should have gone with that.
Avatar 4:09pm Lixiviated Life:

The War on Hyperbole is grossly over rated.
  4:10pm Dean:

Okay, the Tiff over Hyperbole.
Avatar 4:10pm βrian:

But not hyperbolically so.
Avatar 4:11pm βrian:

Group IV hyperbole?
  4:13pm Dean:

Conic sections are hyperbolic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm JtotheK:

re: hyperbole, for some reason this exchange from The Man With Two Brains came to mind --
Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Would you read that back to me? I'm afraid that might make me sound pompous to your readers.
Olsen: 'My brilliant research in brain transplantation is unsurpassed, and will probably make my name live beyond eternity'.
Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Well, that's all right. Take out the 'probably'. It makes me sound wishy-washy.
  4:15pm Dean:

Heh, "probably" is an adverb.
Avatar 4:16pm Jeff Moore:

The band isn't called Dog Milk Hotel?
  4:16pm Dean:

(But so is "beyond eternity," at least an adverbial phrase.)
  4:18pm Tim:

Comfortably numb?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Aaron Working In Newark:

WAR ON WORK... Get me teh hell out of here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Carmichael:

I'm still hypnotized from Micah's show on Tuesday.
  4:20pm Tim:

Aposiopesis? But ...
Avatar 4:20pm βrian:

I can't bring myself to say "real good." Unless that's the equivalent of "real and good." In which case: "real, good ..."
Avatar 4:21pm duke:

sadly, unfortunately, and regrettably adverbs will retaliate forcefully
  4:22pm bore:

war on work, I like that, has a really nice ring to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Listener Bob in PGH:

"Where are you at?" versus "Where are you?"
  4:23pm bore:

real real nice
  4:24pm Tim:

Down here in the South, there's "might could," which I'm still trying to wrap my head around after a couple decades. I think it means, "Yeah, I don't really want to do that, but if you bug me again closer to when it's going down, sure. Otherwise, I'm gonna forget you even asked." As in, hey, I'm moving next weekend and I could use a couple strong backs. Can I count on you? "I might could do that."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Carmichael:

I fail to see the mightiness of this mix.
  4:26pm Dean:

There is the joke about the bumpkin at Harvard who inquires about the location of the library.
Avatar 4:30pm βrian:

Ok, Dean. I'll bite.
Avatar 4:30pm Irwin:

Grandaddy goes out to Hoboken Jack.
Avatar 4:33pm Lixiviated Life:

Any respectable Grandaddy wouldn't be caught dead in Hoboken...Jack. (Although he might could)
  4:34pm Dean:

Bumpkin wanders aimlessly [adverb!] to and fro on campus, finally stops a student to ask him, "Can you tell me where the library's at?" Teeth clenched, the student replies, "My good man, here at Hahvahd we do not end our sentences with prepositions." "I'm very sorry," responds the bumpkin. "Can you tell me where the library's at, asshole?"
Avatar 4:36pm βrian:

Ah yes. I do recall that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm silentkid:

thanks for the Grandaddy the last few weeks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Bumpkin Donuts is now just Bumpkin
Avatar 4:41pm Irwin:

Admittedly [<-adverb] I'm the last person on earth to discover Grandaddy, who have been around for 20 effin' years. Hoboken Jack has been lending me their CDs, and everything is wonderful. Their catalog would provide excellent music for a road trip.
  4:47pm Dean:

Second to last, I'm afraid. And they're from Modesto, not two hours by automobile from where I sit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm silentkid:

There is no such thing as too late! They are in your collection now! Honestly I didn't think they were anything special when they came out. Years later gave them another listen and it hit home for me...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm BronwynB:

i just played this on Monday on the drummer stream :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm common:

  5:33pm Dean:

Indeed [adverb]. Berkeley. You're where? Sacramento? I've been there a few times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Parq:

Mm, really (adv.) nice Booker track.
Avatar 5:36pm Irwin:

Essential track, essentially.
  5:36pm Lyle:

Mose Allison. There's a story. Many people have probably forgotten Mose' brief stint with The Pozo Seco Singers as the 60's gave way to theb 70's. Truth is, lots of jazz artists were doing double-duty with pop groups at that time just to make ends meet. As good as Mose was, he still had bills to pay and the Pozos helped him pay them. Of course, The Gentle Giant, country legend Don Williams, was in the band at that point and had yet to distinguish himself as the unique talent he would later gain recognition for possessing. Instead, Don would often be found onstage, hunched in the darkness back by Mose on the piano. I saw this first hand, as the outfit I was with at that time, We Four, now down one member since their one hit, You Were On My Mind, opened several dates for the Pozos along the northern tier of states, circa 1969. It was Mose who pushed Don Williams forward and into the spotlight, encouraging the soft country crooner to foist his songs upon the Pozos and to formulate the nucleus of a style that would propel him to fame. Williams reciprocated by bringing Mose extra donuts to his bunk on the bus, and offering up cigarettes and cans of Hamm's when they were in short supply. As for me, I spent a little time with Mose, but I hadn't much to offer. He had little interest in my trombone, or in me as a person. I suppose my own neediness at that time, I was practically friendless, might have caused Mose to recoil a little when I tried to show him my matchbook collection, or, offered to toss a Frisbee around with him in one of the many parking lots our touring vehicles occupied on the road. This is not to say Mose wasn't kind, for he was. One night he gave me an individual Lincoln Log, though I'm not sure why. Whatever the reason, I kept it, and to this day I treasure it and take it out from time to time to admire and consider it. Those were such fleeting and heady times.
  5:37pm Dean:

Original title of that BT&tMGs song was "When Something is Seriously Wrong with My Baby."
  5:38pm Dean:

Lyle's confused. Don Williams was never in Gentle Giant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm JtotheK:

@Lyle - Hamm's - excellent brau choice.
  5:39pm brainiac:

@Dean - Yes, I'm in the Sac. I'd like to drive to Berkeley and buy you coffee, man. Lemme get a Kickstarter up and going for that :)
  5:41pm Lyle:

Dean, Don Wiliams nickname is The Gentle Giant. Interestingly, I did do a short series of gigs with GG in '71, when they were on a bill with Art Brown and his Crazy World. Soon after, GG jettisoned horns and bought a synthesizer. Had they not, I believe they might have become the next Rare Earth or Chase.
  5:42pm Dean:

Ha! Some coffee in Berkeley does require crowd-funding. I used to head north when friends who have since moved to Kensington, near Berkeley, were there. Still have other friends in Sacramento, but just don't make it up there too often anymore.
Avatar 5:42pm Irwin:

Lyle, so good to have you back on the boards. Long time, no word. Figured you were on the road or in the shed.
  5:43pm Dean:

Now I'm confused, Lyle. Nick Name is a WFMU DJ. I always thought GG could have beat Tower of Power at their own game.
Avatar 5:44pm glenn:

i endorse the war on wars.
  5:45pm Dean:

Not to be confused with the war to end war.
  5:46pm Lyle:

Missed you, too, Ir. Hope you're manning the Slingerlands for The Hoof after the Marathon. Your style always reminded me of Bob Crane's. So sad he met his end as he did. He was a fine skinsman.
Avatar 5:48pm Irwin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Asheville Jon:

  5:54pm Lyle:

Speaking of Bobby Crane, I believe that the leather jacket he wore on Hogan's Heros was one that you gave him behind the Purple Cow in Iowa City that cold night back in '63 when I was briefly with Pat Suzuki, and you were with Bob Lind? So long ago.
Avatar 5:56pm Irwin:

Lyle, can't believe you remembered that detail.
  5:58pm Lyle:

BTW, fingers crossed. Might get a gig with The New Trombones Unlimited. Phil Bodner, Jr. is getting some of the boys back together. My upper register is history, but they've changed the keys to accommodate us older gents. Lots of low-end blatting. Batman Theme, that sort of thing. Must run! Keep up the great show my friend.
