Avatar 7:10pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey gloomsday! Snow, wow! It was in the 60's and sunny here I'm a little jealous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
gloomsday:

hehe, it's not much, and it's not sticking yet because it's still hovering around 33 degrees F. though it is actually kinda nice, and rare for portland. i heard it's pretty spring-like in a lot of places on the east coast right now!
Avatar 7:22pm
βrian:

It's rainy and just on the cusp of freezing here near the third coast.

This sounds great. My knotted neck is already relaxing.

Hi βrian!
it was high of 70 here today but snow on thursday. Come what may..

Sounds more like moutons than vaches, but what do I know?
Avatar 7:55pm

Hi David! As with everything here, better with headphones. Especially that bell track to catch the binaural surround

@NGH: I think that's the kind of weather that breeds the Rick Scotts of this world. I dunno. Does the compassion just get baked out?

I thought it sounded more like a muon, or a gluon..., but what do I know about the sounds of subatomic particles .... oh, you meant ovejas y vacas!

This grating sound is an excerpt from a study setup for an artwork : radioisotopes (sound installation / audio diffusion of the radioactive decay of alpha and beta particles, and gamma rays).

two license exempt radioisotope 1" standard disc sources (cobalt-60 gamma & strontium-90 beta)

homebuilt geiger-mueller tube pulse detectors for beta/gamma detection

olympus LS100 field recorder

5 minute mono excerpts taken from two separate long form mono recordings (3 hours each)

cobalt-60 recorded 3rd may 2013
strontium-90 recorded 4th may 2013

Scott Walker's excuse, by the way, is that he hit his head at an early age.

Not to say we haven't had some damn hot weather, from time to time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
melinda:

@coel sorry! I like it better than peeps.
Avatar 8:19pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Totally encourage skipping work, cheers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
coelacanth∅:

haha melinda you know i'm kidding!
Avatar 8:22pm
northguineahills:

My excuse, besides being dropped on my head as a babe, is multiple head wounds that make my cranium look like a softly crushed boiled egg shell. Let's just say early onset dementia is a concern to my cognitive health.

(not skipping work, leaving, should have left a few hours ago. Going to go get a pint and read, ciao!)
Avatar 8:23pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

I too fell on my head, though when I was a teenager and I'm afraid I was already ruined for normal life by then.
Avatar 8:26pm
northguineahills:

(By age 21, I was knocked unconscious at least 24 times, since then, four times. Yes, I have cranial fractures) It took me by age 30 to be slightly more careful w/ sports/biking/hiking/walking/waking up/washing dishes/not getting mugged/etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
coelacanth∅:

i fell off a tall frozen pile of dirt when i was 12. it was scooped out on one side so a sheer drop and landed directly on the middle of my head on a frozen solid dirt point at the bottom. i don't know if it made my brain any worse than it was destined to be, but might explain some of my neck trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
melinda:

I know :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
coelacanth∅:

dayum, ngh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
melinda:

ngh did you injure your head washing dishes? That's a lot of blows.
Avatar 8:35pm
northguineahills:

As long as my memory worked, and I didn't need stitches, my parents stopped taking me to the ER (whom I knew on a first-name basis). Think of the coolest sports injuries (mostly soccer/biking/hiking/climbing). Now think of the most boring mundane injuries. (tripping over a sheet, hitting me noggin on the fireplace, etc). I did all of the above

Yeah, I spilled water the floor, slipped backwards and tried to right myself only to hit my forehead against the cabinet. My wife found me on the floor. She didn't know whether to be alarmed or laugh. When I came to, I laughed, b/c what else can you do w/ that absurdity?
Avatar 8:38pm
northguineahills:

ok, now I'm out-out. Cheers y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
coelacanth∅:

wear a helmet? (just kidding. i wouldn't do that any more than i'd not go hiking because i've had lyme disease) i've never been knocked unconscious. i've had many mishaps to. not my fate.
Avatar 8:39pm
northguineahills:

I've been knocked unconscious twice while wearing my bike helmet (please wear your helmet, it saved my life, and it can save yours).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
melinda:

I hit my head on a plaster wall shortly before I started having brain fog ten years ago and have wondered if there was a connection, but since I had no concussion symptoms probably not. I think I was declining subtly before that, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
coelacanth∅:

'sorry, ngh. i wear a helmet in the woods but not on the street.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
coelacanth∅:

haha yeah! close enough that i'm still baffled why they didn't strike.
Avatar 8:46pm
Mayuko:

hallos coelacanth∅! Barefoot hiking sounds painful to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
coelacanth∅:

there have been times, Mayuko, but mostly it's invigorating.
Avatar 8:48pm
Mayuko:

@Jesse I googled the glass house to see what it looks like. Must have been really nice to be there at the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
melinda:

I like the idea of a light-colored knee-high hiking sock with a thin sole utilizing the same 'barefoot technology' that some shoes have. You would get some of the benefits of walking barefoot while being able to easily spot ticks should they crawl on you. I like being barefoot outside but not in the woods.
Avatar 8:53pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@Mayuko, yeah it would be a crazy place to try to live but they were talking about using it as an instrument during the performance/installation. Not sure if there was an audience or not
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
coelacanth∅:

melinda you're right of course. there are practical alternatives. i've had many ticks on me, and several in me. only 2-3 deer ticks though, as far as i know.
  9:55pm
still b/p:

Arrived just in time for tick talk! No idea why I haven’t had more tick encounters with so many trips to ME and NH woods, living in s. coastal ME, taking trips every summer to Cape Cod to walk and bike where ticks and Lyme are significantly present and getting worse all the time. Very few ever on me, none in me for years, far as I know, while local friends have had multi instances. Dem tick don’ like me. But I never use repellent.
