Soldier’s laments, heart-songs, and patriotic tunes have been an essential part of the American sound-scape for many generations. Most of these compositions, however, have been identified with the Vietnam War or with World War II. This newly minted collection presents performances captured between 1924 and 1939 of songs originating from the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and the war to end all wars, the First World War. These recordings were the folk foundation both of the common soldier’s perspective of the battlefield and of the family and loved ones that were left behind.

Sorry, I'm kind of a dork and wasn't paying close attention. Western music was censored in Japan in the '40s so Japanese artists covered popular songs from the West?

@Dave in Vermont: The art is not the cover, it's the premium! You get the poster and a download link for the music

Riffing off the censorship theme of your poster. Where I work, University of Maryland libraries, we have this thing called the Prange collection. Gordon Prange was an aid to General MacArthur during the occupation years. He ran a review (censorship) office. All publishers in Japan had to submit one copy of everything to him. Many institutions in Japan at that time chose not to retain periodicals (magazines, newspapers etc). Prange's collection, now digitized, ended being the only complete collection for many publications in those years.
