I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

How Japanese people celebrate March 3 www.google.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am listener james from westwood:

I see that the traditional fifth platform holds dolls for 泣き上戸, 怒り上戸, and 笑い上戸, which pretty much covers my adventures with alcohol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am listener james from westwood:

(I much prefer 笑い上戸!)
Avatar 11:07am Mayuko:

@james haha! I don't recall hina dolls my family had to be so expressive. They all seemed deadpan. Just like myself when I am drunk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am listener james from westwood:

On those few occasions when I go past a random beer, I try to be among happy folks, so I can pick up their vibe. But the fact that you have to drive virtually everywhere in Bergen County, NJ, to be with folks means I barely drink to begin with.
Avatar 12:00pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko and gang

Avatar 12:01pm Sem:

Hello, Mayuko, ljfw, and fred, and....P-90!
Avatar 12:01pm Brian in UK:

Hello Mayuko and james.
Hear that noise, sound of jaw dropping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm listener james from westwood:

How do, all!!
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

Welcome, fred, P-90, Sem and Brian! Wonderful to have you all here.
Avatar 12:08pm fred:

Wow, yesterday a friend asked me about Ikema and I had no idea where it was. Asked a Japanese friend about it and she didn't know either
Avatar 12:14pm Mayuko:

@fred Sounds like you have great people around you. I think it's super rare to have a friend who brings up Ikema in conversation!
Avatar 12:20pm fred:

He's a Colombian artist who lives in Vienna, and he likes your show. That Japanese friend will be translating at a Ryuichi Sakamoto talk two days from now, so I guess I'm lucky enough to know interesting people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good afternoon, Mayuko, on Marathon Eve. It was cool to hear one of your premium choices on Sophisticated Boom Boom yesterday. One of many interesting selections on Sheila's program.
  12:23pm rbrt:

howdy, Happy Saturday!
  12:23pm rw:

  12:25pm rw:

Just starting to rain here which means I'll be able to stick around for the remainder of the Play Vertigo!
Avatar 12:33pm Mayuko:

@fred ah! that's so nice to hear!!!!!!!

Hallos Ken! Yah that was kind of her supporting other DJs. Also nice to have the "suicide song" represent my show, haha!

Happy Saturday to you too, rbrt! Now I hope it rains every Saturday, rw!

Super-dig this Sufi street-music track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi there Mayuko! Happy Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mayuko and Mayukolings
Avatar 12:52pm Mayuko:

@james I know! makes me high just by listening!!

Hellos Henry and coelacanth∅!!!
Avatar 12:54pm fred:

Of course, there's a long Sufi tradition of playing Vertigo
Avatar 12:55pm Sem:

Passed through Taroudant years ago, lots of market musicians. Did not note any whirling Sufi's, however. Bustling market town, many touts, but that was Morocco then.
Avatar 12:56pm Mayuko:

@fred ah! that's very true!! and that white dress is most beautiful attire ever.
  1:00pm Barnaby:

Hi Mayuko, just in time for second hour
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm coelacanth∅:

maybe it's not a brain thing after all, but he's got the same number of drums as there are strings on a traditional koto.
  1:08pm Jack:

Time to play music.
Avatar 1:09pm fred:

Jack, time to go back under your bridge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm coelacanth∅:

Jack, shut the fuck up
  1:10pm Gib:

jack, eat a bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm listener james from westwood:

I'm editing a gigantic art history college text and the pics of Muslim tile work and calligraphy are mesmerizing and so beautiful. Huge patterns like this (and the other pics of this ceremony at your link above) I find greatly calming.
Avatar 1:12pm Mikula:

I love your mike breaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm listener james from westwood:

Hah, excellent Fujino callback!
  1:13pm Sam Segal:

Hi, Mayuko and all present!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm coelacanth∅:

Yay, Sam's here with our horses!
  1:16pm Sam Segal:

Not so fast, @coel...I ain’t found em yet!
  1:17pm Barnaby:

@Mikula, totally agree
Avatar 1:18pm Mayuko:

Hallos Barnaby! You're right Jack, someone has to stop me & welcome! Welcome on board, Gib! Thank you for kind words, Mikula! Hola Comrade Sam Segal!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth∅:

aw,damn. well anyway how ya been?
  1:21pm melinda:

Hi all
  1:22pm Sam Segal:

Not half bad. Doing a bit of spring cleaning today. The Lysol fumes have me feeling wonky!
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda!
  1:23pm melinda:

I feel wonky too
Avatar 1:25pm Mayuko:

Great! My show has the reputation to be going well with house cleaning. & some toxic fumes. Reputated in some part of the universe.
  1:26pm doug:

I am listening while making the basement messier!
  1:28pm rbrt:

is that hyonteis finnish?
  1:28pm rw:

Saturday. House cleaning. Vertigo, basement. Sounds like a good day.
  1:28pm Ike:

Listening after taking a shower and thinking about how much I need to clean the apt. but not actually ever cleaning.
Avatar 1:28pm fred:

BTW, that Ikema conversation took place at a Sister Iodine show. Great noise band, I think you'd like them. Though I don't know how they sound on record. As with improv, I need to be there for this kind of music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm coelacanth∅:

hi melinda
-i'm not too wonky! i got a good sleep for once, maybe 6.5 hours. (would've got more if the water dripping from the ceiling didn't splash on my face)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm coelacanth∅:

i'm preparing a kabocha squash. it's been a while and i'm not sure i remember the way
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

@doug toxic fume part still works with a messy basement!

@rbrt I think so, since it's Mika Vainio's alias.
  1:32pm rbrt:

ahh thanks Mayuko! lots of interesting tunes out of finland these days
  1:33pm Rickwaukee:

'74 Wow
  1:34pm rw:

Coffee! That's what I'm missing. I knew there was something.
Avatar 1:35pm fred:

Daniel Menche!
  1:36pm Rickwaukee:

Always hear John Lennon slowly saying "the watussi . . . the twist"
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

Hallos, Ike! Rickwaukee!

Coffee indeed a staple!!!!
Avatar 1:38pm Mayuko:

mmm, kabocha. haven't had it forever.
Avatar 1:38pm Mayuko:

@fred I'll check out Sister Iodine!
  1:38pm rw:

Before I go brew some, thank you Mayuko for another beautiful show! I already sent a couple dollars but will be sure to send a few more during the Marathon. We all appreciate the energy you and everybody else at FMU puts into this vertiginous thing!
  1:39pm melinda:

@coel water dripping from ceiling sounds bad. I was kept awake at times by wind racket. So hard to do sleep right.
Avatar 1:41pm Mayuko:

I saw that! Thank you rw, it means a lot to have your support , not just in terms of donation but also to have you here listening. Happy coffees and rest of the weekend!
  1:44pm melinda:

Today I'm drinking mushroom beverages instead of my usual decaf coffee.
Avatar 1:47pm fred:

I probably won't be pledging live this marathon: the Sonic Protest festival will be on, so I'll be at shows, and I have to switch to fiber connection. I fully expect the latter to go wrong and to be cut off for a while. I'd pledge now, but I'm still hoping I can pledge during Zoe's first marathon show. So don't be surprised if my pledge doesn't show up, it will come eventually
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm coelacanth∅:

Rickwaukee Right! and then he says something that i always thought was "eldorado" but that's probably not it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm coelacanth∅:

fred have you listened to Kevin Drumm? i'm seriously infatuated!
Avatar 1:53pm Mayuko:

@melinda mushroom beverages?! what does it taste like??
  1:54pm rbrt:

melinda must really be enjoying the show lol
Avatar 1:55pm Mayuko:

@fred thank you fred! I hope you'll have a great time at the Sonic Protest. and yeah internet stuff goes wrong by default, I'll wait patiently for your return.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm melinda:

Chaga alone is earthy and bitter, but I make a chai with it so it's tasty. The other one is cordyceps blended with cocoa, also sort of bitter, but chocolatey.
@rbt haha! they're medicinal but non-hallucinogenic.
  1:57pm rbrt:

haha ;)
Avatar 1:58pm fred:

@coel: I've seen him a few times. Not all great, but I like that about him: he takes risks, which may work or not. But when they do, it's a great show
  1:58pm Ike:

Oh so they're bitter like Chinese medicinal herbal things, then, not consumed for the taste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm melinda:

@Ike right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm coelacanth∅:

i bought some mushroom tea once and didn't like it, so i ended up using it as a soup stock.
Avatar 2:03pm Mayuko:

I think those herbal things take a little time to get used to, but once you do it becomes not tasting weird at all, I always find that change of my tongue interesting.
Avatar 2:06pm fred:

Is there such a thing as herbal ice cream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm coelacanth∅:

fred i guess i'm not surprised. one thing i thought was kind of noodly and pointless, and an hour long...but the album "hellish miasma" or something like that is Brilliant. (& "cloudy" and some other...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm melinda:

Ectoplasm is the seance substance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm listener james from westwood:

Always too short a two-hour excursion. Thanks, Mayuko!
Avatar 2:10pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko, I hope I'll be able to check in next week
  2:11pm Rickwaukee:

Thank you, Mayuko - I will have to sell a few things so I can pledge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Mayuko! take care, everyone
Avatar 2:12pm Mayuko:

@melinda ah!! I was close!!!
Avatar 2:13pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee hope not your organs!
Avatar 2:13pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening!!! See you next week!!!!
