I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Good afternoon Mayuko and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

afternoon, Mayuko and all!
Avatar 12:01pm Mayuko:

Seems like I'm not connecting, lemme try again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

Hearing the phone call, if that helps!
Avatar 12:02pm Sem:

Hello, Mayuko, fred, and ljfw. Good day to you all
Avatar 12:02pm fred:

I'm hearing the answer tape again, so I guess you're coming through
Avatar 12:02pm Mayuko:

phone call IS me!
Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

Somehow my wfmu app kept playing the doug's stream. Not sure how that's possible????
Avatar 12:07pm fred:

Does anyone have trouble with the app? I'm listening on the 128k stream, which sounds fine
Avatar 12:08pm Sem:

Using the pop up, am I hearing P'o now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The app and pop-up are bleeping and blooping more or less in unison for me just now.
Avatar 12:10pm Mayuko:

I restarted my app and it started workgin for me too, sorry for the confusion. Yes it was P'o before this track!
Avatar 12:10pm Sem:

Avatar 12:10pm Mayuko:

Well I think it's working alright now, welcome all!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm David D:

Sounds good over here!
  12:14pm rbrt:

I can't tell you how much I love that wobbly detuned guitar sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Sounding keen and looking green, Mayuko!
Avatar 12:17pm northguineahills:

So, far I have Mexican sunflowers, jalapenos, and collard greens sprouting. It's nice planting earky. (other seeds have yet to sprout).
Avatar 12:18pm northguineahills:

Sonic Youth does a good version of Pendulum music.
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

Hallo, David D glad to have you here!!! rbrt, glad you liked it, thought it was so nice, too! All hail Doug!!
  12:19pm rbrt:

ngh they do!
Avatar 12:20pm Mayuko:

Hi northguineahills! When did they perform it? I'm curious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mayuko!

I just thought I'd mention to your Mid Hudson listeners that there's going to be a kind of 80th Birthday celebration for the late Maryanne Amacher (who died in 2009) at her house tomorrow, Sunday Feb 25th at 4PM-7PM or so,
80 Marius Street
Kingston, NY.
I'll be there droning or something with some apps, and also playing with the Catskill Mountain Gamelan.
  12:21pm rbrt:

I think it was around '99?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Confound it! I've got some prior commitments tomorrow afternoon. That sounds like a cool get-together, WH. I hope you meet with a good turn-out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Yvang:

Hello Mayuko and listeners! Happy vertigo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Scraps:

H'lo. At 9 o'clock (Snohomish county time), I switched here from a sober discussion about whether we should arm teachers. That's America 2018!

Sorry. Of course, WFMU is America 2018, too.
Avatar 12:24pm northguineahills:

@Mayuko: They recorded it in 2000. it's on their "Goodbye 21st Century" double album. (They also do Yoko Ono, Christian Wolf, John Cage, and other compositions. Jim O'Rourke, Christian Marclay, and Wharton Thiers lend a hand as well).
Avatar 12:24pm northguineahills:

Yes, rbrt, you're correct, it was '99.
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

@ngh @rbrt Thanks! I should check that out though I feel like I can hear it in my ears before actually hearing it, haha.
Avatar 12:25pm Mayuko:

Hallos, Yvang, thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 12:25pm northguineahills:

Damn Henry, jealous, I love Maryanne Amacher!
Avatar 12:28pm Mayuko:

@Henry, that does sound cool! Thanks for the info!

My radio family scraps! I thought more Americans were finally supporting gun control this time around.
Avatar 12:28pm fred:

I saw them do it on the Goodbye 20th century tour. I think I saw that in 2000. A very confusing experience for a lot of people in the audience (many boos until they performed a few SY tunes at the end). That show had one of the best performances of a Cage piece I ever heard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Webhamster Henry:

@ngh It'll probably be pretty chaotic! I did a little work with her a few years ago, but my art partner Nik used to live with her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm listener james from westwood:

Love this Klein track!
Avatar 12:32pm fred:

I love it too
Avatar 12:35pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Scraps:

Mayuko, some more Americans support gun control now, and maybe we'll get a little tiny bit more legislation because of active young people. But I didn't mean to start a gun control discussion.... just, it's weird to wake up in the only country that feels this way.
  12:36pm rbrt:

that Pena Adobe track was like a siren to riot lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Scraps:

as the Onion headline writer puts it every time there's a mass shooting, "‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens"
Avatar 12:39pm northguineahills:

Peder Mannerfelt new to me. I've never heard Nick Klein look at the dancefloor. Developing repetive stress disorder clicky starring!
Avatar 12:43pm northguineahills:

@Scraps: That Onion article pretty much summarized the bullshittery here. We live in an insane timeline when The Onion actually writes accurate political commentary. (actually, Teen Vogue, Buzzfeed, and Cracked have all done investigative journalism lately, which if you told me two years ago, I'd think you're mad).
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

  12:46pm rbrt:

*sits quietly
Avatar 12:48pm northguineahills:

Avatar 12:48pm Mayuko:

Hallos Jesse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Scraps:

Love love love DNA
Avatar 12:50pm fred:

Arto Lindsay will perform at Sonic Protest this year. Which is right at the same time as the marathon. This totally messes up my pledging schedule. I think I might have to forsake live pledging
Avatar 12:51pm northguineahills:

AHHHHHH!, My favorite Melt Banana album! (I have seen them close to 9 times live).
Avatar 12:51pm fred:

Avatar 12:52pm northguineahills:

I think it was '99 when Melt Banana had Melt Banana underwear merch.
Avatar 12:53pm fred:

@ngh: "close to 9 times" Is there a story behind this peculiar phrasing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm listener james from westwood:

@fred, your support will be hugely valued, live or in envelope form!
  12:54pm P-90:

Hellooo Mayuko-DJ and VertiGo-Go Girls and Boys
Avatar 12:54pm Mayuko:

yeah, "close to 9 times" is funny!

and james is 1000% correct!
  12:54pm rbrt:

hey there p-90
Avatar 12:55pm northguineahills:

@fred: I know I've seen then 8 times, I know I haven't seen them 10 times, but if my geriatric memory is intact, I also saw them around 2011 as well, which makes 9.
Avatar 12:55pm Mayuko:

Avatar 12:55pm northguineahills:

Ok, off to clean and garden, will be listening!
  12:56pm rbrt:

I wish it was garden weather!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Coincidentally, Ferris Bueller was absent nine times last semester. youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm listener james from westwood:

OMD is always welcome, regardless of how it gets beamed into one's head!
  1:01pm P-90:

I LOVE that "telegram-in-my-head" feeling!
  1:04pm Rickwaukee:

lol I thought M said existential crisis bc of 'pants'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Stanley:

Moral of the story, first get your penis enlarged
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Scraps:

I love putting lots of Melt-Banana in my mp3 player and playing all my music, as I always do with my mp3 player, on shuffle. When Melt-Banana comes up, it's always a delight
  1:08pm Rickwaukee:

Life is short - live two of them!
  1:09pm rbrt:

I started off laughing, but I kind of hope the alternate universe fujino has a good wedding lol
  1:09pm P-90:

Put that mascot goat to work! We wanna meet him!
  1:12pm rbrt:

feels creepy saying it, but it's fun to listen to people's random answering machine messages
  1:13pm P-90:

I'm kinda scared of that lasagna too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, lots of cool premiums available: www.wfmu.org... It must have been an exciting project to compile pre-war covers of Western songs by Japanese artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

@rbrt, were you a listener around the turn of the millennium? FMU had a show called the Audio Kitchen that concentrated on found sound, much of it on scavenged and discovered answering machine tapes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm listener james from westwood:

Archives: wfmu.org...
Avatar 1:14pm fred:

I think I'll freak out when I receive accurately targeted spam
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Yvang:

Oh yes I remember the audio kitchen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm listener james from westwood:

Never a bad time for Kraftwerk!
  1:16pm Rickwaukee:

Anita Rendezvous
  1:16pm Rickwaukee:

that's my drag name
  1:16pm rbrt:

@james thanks for this! I'm going to go through these lol
Avatar 1:18pm Mayuko:

Hey Stanley, and Rickwaukee!!
Thank you rbrt! I think Fujino will!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

No sweat, rbrt! They were a fave of mine at the time!
Avatar 1:20pm Mayuko:

The Audio Kitchen with "The Professor"?! Who is this professor and I will definitely listen to it too!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

If Fujino emerges from the mists, he'll definitely want you to DJ his full wedding!
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

@james ah I LOVE that!!! I do wanna be his wedding DJ!
  1:22pm P-90:

Audio Kitchen was great. I think a lot of listeners would welcome its return, or something similar.
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

In fact I should have made this all wedding DJ show today for Fujino, you got a much better show idea! haha.
Avatar 1:23pm fred:

Harold Schellinx has also done some nice stuff with found tapes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Yvang:

The good old spams of the pre facebook era are stuttering an outdated and arrogant way of failing to profile a target. The current social networks are more efficient at it and more scary.
  1:24pm rbrt:

lol wedding DJ show would of been brilliant
Avatar 1:25pm fred:

@Yvang: I'm still not on facebook. I'm missing so much, it seems
Avatar 1:27pm Mayuko:

Audio Kitchen should be back with us on the drummer stream!!!
  1:29pm rbrt:

yeah like this needs to come back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Yvang:

@fred: Facebook is like the worst place on earth to meet my friends, but that's where they are and they won't go anywhere else!
  1:31pm rbrt:

who was "The Professor" ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Yvang:

If the Professor comes back on WFMU, I hope he will not be allowed to carry a gun!
  1:35pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm listener james from westwood:

@rbrt: You know, I don't know who precisely he was. He had a post-WFMU blog for this stuff, but the link seems dead now.
  1:38pm rbrt:

Kind of cooler that they are a mystery
Avatar 1:38pm Mayuko:

Yvang that's the scary thing about this Fujino. If, in this efficient and accurate targeting spam facebook era, and they decided that's who I am, THEN THAT MUST BE WHO I AM!!! I no longer understand myself!!!!!!
Avatar 1:38pm Mayuko:

Hey Jake! Any sick animal alert in our neighborhood today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Scraps:

Ahhhhh.... immediately I relax. This is maybe my favorite R. Stevie track.
Avatar 1:39pm Mayuko:

@Scraps ME TOO! Love love love this song.
Avatar 1:40pm fred:

I got some people from my ISP showing up today, to sell me on switching to a better plan. I got a nice rebate, so I signed up. They lingered for about 15 minutes more as I told them about WFMU. One tested me with a favorite old band of his from Guinea, and here came two pages of plays in the archives, one two days ago. They left writing down the station's name and URL. Since this was after I signed up, I think there might be two new listeners in the near future
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Scraps:

Mayuko, I have it on The Future Is Worse Than the Past, probably my fav R Stevie album, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm listener james from westwood:

Ah, Sandcatchers, perfect for Fujino's first slow dance with the lucky partner!
  1:43pm rbrt:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Scraps:

"Everyone, But Everyone" is also awesome
  1:44pm JakeGould:

@Mayuko: Nothing today. Lots of human bullshit: Shots fired, people in fights, robberies… But it seems like I missed an animal event yesterday near my day job: “Puppy Slapped, Abused” on 14th Street and 6th Avenue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Yvang:

@Mayuko : A movie should be made of this Fujino story!
Avatar 1:45pm northguineahills:

I need to get the WFMU secret society record bag!
Avatar 1:47pm fred:

I so need the "marbles in a blender" Bryce T-shirt. I don't even need to see the design. It's going to be one of my fave WFMU T-shirst ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Scraps:

ngh: on Secret Society record bag: Yep, I'm considering upping my monthy because of that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

It it's not too creepy, that can be a future Play Vertigo episode. Mayuko's DJ sets from that imaginary wedding party. Including some answering machine recordings. And wedding cake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Scraps:

this is a great hour, Mayuko
  1:49pm Rickwaukee:

Everything But The Marine Girls
Avatar 1:53pm Sem:

Sure has been a swell show. Thanks, Mayuko. Catch you and all next time, if you don't run too fast.
Avatar 1:53pm Mayuko:

@Ken, yeah, as long as I don't receive any bad updates from THEM about Fujino in future. I am looking forward to hearing from them what happens after his wedding.
