Stasi Museum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
David D:

Yes, in the old Stasi headquarters here in Leipzig - a drab, fascinating exhibition!
Avatar 5:06pm
northguineahills:

Usually, the decent mezcales in the States start around $50.
Avatar 5:07pm
northguineahills:

I haven't been to the Stasi museum, but I spent 2.5 days at the SS museum (when they were open) (It was next to where I was staying at the time). My wife and I read every doc available for the public.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
David D:

Talk about grueling, NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
David D:

The mescal was apparently called Amores Espadin, by the way. Is that well known?

It’s gets 92 out of 100 on Tastings, fwiw
Avatar 5:15pm
northguineahills:

I'm not familiar w/ it, but the best mescales I've had I'd never seen before. It's only the ones I see everywhere that I consider mediocret ye drinkable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
David D:

Sounds good to me, Gary. And it's the only one in town, apparently!

@David: Well, we also hit the Holocaust museum, the memorial, and the Charlie Checkpoint museum, and Berlin Wall museum (I forgot what it was callled). It made the Currywurst museum and the Pergamon a walk in the park.

@David: Probably the reason we party every night and barely slept, but glad we visited all of those places.

Mulatu Estatke is playing in Germany this month. Not Leipzig though. Ethiopian 'jazz' is such a mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
David D:

NGH: Yes, you can spend weeks at Berlin's museums and dive into antiquities, focus on the terrible past, or just learn about currywurst, apparently...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
David D:

Brian: I'll have to have a look, thanks! Surely worth the trip to Berlin if the timing is right...

I'm a sucker for cathedral pipe organs (well, all musical organs, actually).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
David D:

That was in fact performed on the organ at Leipzig's St. Thomas Church/Thomaskirche, where Bach was active from 1723 until his death in 1750.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
Brian in UK:

That organ should be played at volume 12

Brian in UK:

I think it was mentioned last week on a comments board about the lack of, for want of a better word a classical music show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
David D:

I always enjoyed Bethany's Stochastic Hit Parade, but there is no dedicatedly classical show at the moment, it would seem.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
Brian in UK:

Great mix, David. Zzźzzźzz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm

Avatar 6:23pm
northguineahills:

You seemingly have to wait for Kurt's fill-ins when every other show he dedicates an hour to classical (depending on his mood).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
David D:

Yes, Kurt does a great show, regardless.
Avatar 6:41pm
northguineahills:

Losing Lamin and /rupture left a void, that small change, sam segal, and jesse kaminsky fill from time tp time, but outside Fabio and Bryce playing avant contemporary classical, there isn't much for classical classical (although they both will play that occasionally).
Avatar 6:41pm
northguineahills:

Is this a new Lute recording? B/c I have a 3 LP set of Bach lute compositions (w/ the same title).

To quote Radar from Mash, "Ah, Bach!"

This was in fact recorded in 2013 in a church in small town near Hamburg.
