Hi David! Gonna play "Whiskey Before Breakfast" with some lyrics?

Yes Bielefeld exists , I used to have a kind of pen pal there. She drove up to see me do a performance in Bremen in 1994, I was very impressed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Webhamster Henry:

At least in 1994 it did!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
David D:

It is rumored to be a hoax, unless you're there, or maybe even then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Webhamster Henry:

The funny thing about this song is that it's originally in Brecht's kind of English, so it's extra alienated in Polish.
Avatar 4:08pm

Right as your show came on, I was reading about the "Bielefeld hoax".

Now, I have no choice but to have a dram of whisk(e)y today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
David D:

Yes, Henry it was (purposely, I believe) translated from German into that odd English, and then came full circle here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm

David, I will not be able to do it while you're still on the webs, but I will drink a glass of Teeling in your honor tonight.

Nothing wrong with watches per se, of course, just that particular kind of watch, I suppose.

The Chinese stuff may be homemade or regional herbal liquor, or it may be this: www.gokunming.com...

Many years ago, I saw an interesting-looking red drink in a huge jar at an outdoor cafe in Yunnan and tried it. It was gross, but then I don't like most alcohol anyway.

I had a bandmate who on his way to Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and made recordings of the Bernard Parmegiani's alert tones at the De Gaulle airport along the way (which was sadly replaced when I was there a few years later gottverdammt) and took field recordings at that airport and in the Burkinabé countryside and brought back some artefacts, and chilies, etc, which we miced w/ and stitched together w/ the field recordings to make a combination of Pierre Henry's "Étude aux chemins de fer" and Parmegiani's " la roue ferris" . (Burkina Faso was a French colony, so we had other Burkinabé rhythms introduced).

In grad school, I had a colleague that bartended at the Subway Inn, it was the only affordable bar from the 20s - 100s, and since my uni was on 68th, we were constantly there, as it was cheap, and when my friend worked there, I drank for free.

βrian: You need to give me a heads up. I'm trying to get out of work by 7ish! (NYC had an ok selection, I've only found one decent bottle here. Every time my wife goes south, I ask for mezcales y huitlacoche to bring back on the plane.
Avatar 6:22pm
northguineahills:

The supermarkets there have a better liquor selection then most liquor stores here (in the better parts of town)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
David D:

Not sure if I ever have had mezcal - what is it like?
Avatar 6:28pm
northguineahills:

I tend to go for smoky mezcales, rather then sweet, so if found, Bozal Mezcal (Cuixe), El Recuerdo de Oaxaca (Joven) (the only non-aged variety I like), y Bozal Mezcal (Ensamble) are what I look/ask for in Mexico. Here, I'll take anything that is marginally palatable. If those varieties can't be found, repasados and anejos are the better varieties in my experience for recommended brands.
Avatar 6:29pm
βrian:

Tequila is a specific kind of Mezcal. A friend brought me back a nice Del Maguey from Mexico once. I can't recall which one, but it had the scent of piñon. Beautiful.
Avatar 6:30pm
northguineahills:

Mezcal is to tequila, what Islay single malt scotch is to whisk(e)y. Usually fermented underground w/ smoldering agave branches. There is cheap shitty mezcal, but the good stuff goes down smooth. Mezcal and Scotch are my poisons of choice.
Avatar 6:31pm
βrian:

I also later read that Del Maguey is a fairly recent designer brand that was started from scratch — with big money, naturally.
