I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

the astroland I recommend taking the last cabin backend last seat. it gets airborne at the bottom of the first descend.
  12:28pm rbrt:

yeah umm that sounds like a reason not to take the last seat lol
Avatar 12:28pm Mayuko:

Hi maestroso, glad to have you listening! Drive safe and happy shopping!

The world good for me when I'm on the radio playing favorite songs, thanks to Doug!

mick karn what'a loss...
Avatar 12:31pm Mayuko:

Hey rbrt! I like it too when they do a bit quirky things.
  12:33pm rbrt:

hi hi!
Avatar 12:33pm Mayuko:

Hi mzzm! yeah the last seat is the scariest seat, right? I think I took the third or fourth seat from the front and it was scary enough, so...
Avatar 12:35pm Mayuko:

& yes Mick Karn was the best!
  12:35pm Gary via app:

I only rode the cyclone once
Avatar 12:37pm Mayuko:

@Gary how old was the Cyclone then? It is now 91 apparently.
Avatar 12:37pm Mayuko:

Nobody would feel too safe to take a ride when 91 yr old is driving.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm listener james from westwood:

Could say the same about these lovely loops from Black Taffy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Doug Schulkind:

For her 50th birthday, I took my wife for a ride on the Cyclone. She typically hates roller coasters and other "thrill" seeking experiences, but she felt this was one thing she needed to have done, at least once. We were both shocked at how violently the ride shook us around. Not getting whiplash seemed to have been more a matter of luck than anything else. A few weeks after our ride, a tourist (visiting NYC for his 53rd birthday) went for a ride on the Cyclone and broke his neck — and a few days later died from the injury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Doug Schulkind:

So in other words, HAPPY SATURDAY everyone!
  12:49pm P-90:

Greetings Mayuko-DJ and Verti-goners.
I forgot I was in the midwest and the show starts an hour "earlier" here...

The cyclone cured me of my fear of flying
  12:57pm rbrt:

I'm not into these flying wooden coasters lol

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm listener james from westwood:

Between The Wiz and Jesus Christ Superstar, this has been a good week for pleasant 1970s revisits!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm listener james from westwood:

Michael Jackson's "You Can't Win" from The Wiz is also just full of despair, if my memory serves.
Avatar 1:06pm Mayuko:

@rbrt ohhh, listening to it in a fun house would be amazing! if I ever host a listener meet-up I wanna DJ in a funhouse! Do they even have one in Luna Park I wonder? I don't seem to remember seeing one, but maybe I just missed it.
Avatar 1:10pm Mayuko:

@Doug OH MY GOD!!! That is terrible! Glad we all survived! I felt like that was a ride I should take at least once in my lifetime, too. And better done it asap since the Cyclone is not getting any younger than now...
Avatar 1:11pm Mayuko:

Happy Saturday, P-90, thanks for tuning in!

Avatar 1:13pm Dave B:

Here's a little Coney Island action back in 1928 - from Harold Lloyd's "Speedy"

  1:14pm rbrt:

im not sure there are too many funhouses around becasue they were fire traps? lol...I loved them :(
Avatar 1:15pm northguineahills:

My wife has the Post's newpaper in a ziplock bag from the morning after mj died.
  1:15pm rw:

Avatar 1:16pm Dave B:

They have some FunHouse mirrors from Coney at the Subway museum in downtown Brooklyn
Avatar 1:17pm northguineahills:

All of the funhouses I've been to in the last decade have brilliantly vibrant signs everywhere denoting the direction of the exits, which seem to be everywhere. It sort of takes away from the fun. (Probably still better then being burned alive).
  1:18pm rbrt:

dave b neat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm listener james from westwood:

When I think funhouse, I think either of the Stooges or that one so-titled episode of "The Sopranos"!
@ngh: IIRC a haunted/funhouse in NJ had just such a fire back in the later 70s or 80s.
Avatar 1:20pm Mayuko:

@james yeah, "You Can't Win" is indeed what I was referring to! That song too real too!
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

Hi northguineahills, and rw! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

@Dave B Because of Bill Mac I watched several Harold Lloyd including Speedy! That was lovely.
Avatar 1:24pm Dave B:

Harold Lloyd was the best, and incredibly underrated. Years and years ago, WNYC used to do "Silent Film/Loud Music" at WTC Wintergarden Saw Alloy Orchestra provide music for Speedy live.... It was awesome.

Another great Coney Island picture is Little Fugitive
Avatar 1:26pm Dave B:

and Fatty Arbuckle / Buster Keaton did a film called "Coney Island" back in 1917...

  1:27pm rw:

End boogie.
Avatar 1:32pm northguineahills:

Always great to get Gristle to Throb..., wait that came out wrong. (still love that album).
Avatar 1:32pm Mayuko:

@rw (hmm... I thought I was playing a Great Funk track...? Where did it go wrong...???)
Avatar 1:32pm northguineahills:

@Dave: Saw that, but it's probably 15 years.
  1:32pm rw:

This show is like a roller coaster.
  1:33pm Ike:

Meow meow meow
Avatar 1:34pm northguineahills:

probably it has probably been 15 years (brain to eye-hand coordination doesn't seem to want to cooperate).
Avatar 1:35pm Mayuko:

@rw hope nobody has broken their neck!
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

@Ike Oh no! Maybe now that it's getting warm again, new batches of kitten roaming around here in Sunset Park!
Avatar 1:37pm northguineahills:

Everyone make sure their restraint is in locked and ready position. Check w/ an attendant if you're not sure or are having trouble.

(just read an article about roller coaster accidents last night)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm listener james from westwood:

IIRC it was Austin Kleon on Twitter who suggested that all TVs in airports, instead of showing rage-inducing cable news, ought to show either the Turner Classic Movies channel, or loops of Keaton and Harold Lloyd films.
  1:38pm rw:

I’m a little worried about this safety bar. You think it’s secure?
Avatar 1:38pm northguineahills:

the feral kittens around my office started to appear around early Feb.
Avatar 1:42pm Mayuko:

@northguineahills @rw the attendant is often not quite sure. But, I read that the guy who had been operating the Cyclone for 30 years had never ridden it himself, so I think that's what sometimes happens.
Avatar 1:45pm Mayuko:

@james haha! I'm not sure if I want to watch Keaton film at an airport, even though I do love him very much. Things always seem to go wrong in his films.

On second thought, things seem to be going much worse in the news than Keaton film anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm listener james from westwood:

Hell yeah! And I'll take Harold Lloyd hanging onto a clock by one hand (or even part of a hand) over the chump-in-chief any damn day.
Avatar 1:50pm northguineahills:

The Civil War is one of my favorite albums!
Avatar 1:51pm Mayuko:

@northguineahills Yay! It was the first Matmos stuff I ever bought. Feels like so long time ago!
  1:51pm melinda:

Hello! I'm late, can't believe I missed the Wiz.
Avatar 1:52pm Mayuko:

Hey melinda!
  1:55pm Ike:

This set is

(fire emoji fire emoji fire emoji)
  1:58pm Ike:

Oh no, where'd you see the feral kittens, @Mayuko? If I have more cat food that my picky cat refuses to eat, I'll bring it to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm listener james from westwood:

melinda, you're getting a second chance @ The Wiz!
Thanks for this and the preceding lovely 2 hours, Mayuko!
  1:59pm P-90:

Thank you! Im glad I caught the last 65% of the show. Now I will be dizzy all day...
  2:00pm rbrt:

thanks mayuko!
  2:02pm rw:

Thanks Mayuko. Love the Vertigo. Have a good weekend everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm listener james from westwood:

Ahhhh, Mabel!
Avatar 2:03pm northguineahills:

Well, Frangry & Michelle would love this set!
Avatar 2:04pm Mayuko:

haha! this song does sound like appropriate for Shut Up Weirdo!
Avatar 2:04pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening! Happy dizzying! Bill Mac is in next Sat wfmu.org... Hope to see you all on the following Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm listener james from westwood:

This was a real whirlwind of a movie and soundtrack for me to have seen as a kid. I'd been raised on Broadway albums, though, but this was one of the first shows (even if on TV/screen) I'd seen. "Grease," too. (I was waaaaay too young for some bits of "Grease"!)
Avatar 2:07pm northguineahills:

(They mentioned they loved the Wiz yesterday).
Avatar 2:09pm Mayuko:

@james I'd love to see/hear the Broadway version of Wiz too! I've never seen Grease, though, I'll look it up!
Avatar 2:09pm Mayuko:

@northguineahills heh! that's a funny coincidence!
Avatar 3:12pm fred:

I haven't listened to this show yet, but here's why I missed it: Byambajargal Gombodorj was singing, and I stayed a long time after the show hoping she'd sign a record I'd brought. She eventually did, and giggled when I pulled out that record, she asked where I got it from, though I got it from her show 6 years ago. She signed it anyway, and that meant a lot to me. I did delay heart surgery to hear her, I didn't tell her that, that would have been gross. As if that wouldn't be great enough, at one point I asked a woman there whether Byambajargal would come out and maybe sign that record, and she recognized me as one of the few people who had been at her shows (while I had no idea I had seen her 6 years ago). I gave her my email address, I really hope I'll hear about her shows
I'll listen to this show soon, but I wanted to share this weirdness without pretending to intrude with this week's show
Avatar 10:04pm Mayuko:

I do remember you were talking about Byambajargal's show before the surgery! I'm glad you had a great time again. I'd think Byambajargal and people helping her show would be happy to know how much her music means to you.
