I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Good morning, my radio family Scraps! Dozing off is actually an appropriate way to listen to today's show. You'll see what I mean (if you're awake then, haha.)

Good day, Mayuko, Scraps, and all! I woke up thinking about listening to today's episode!

I plan to watch it tomorrow. I was too busy this week: 6 shows in 5 days

Paddling through is another very appropriate way to listen to today's show.

Indeed :)

@fred 6 shows in 5 days?!?!?!? How is that even possible?

Hey there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm

Oh wow, Jun Togawa is in the film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
fred:

Easy really: Joe McPhee on Monday, a dance/text performance on Tuesday then rushing to a concert, another dance show on Thursday, a dance show then a concert yesterday. See, I didn't even do anything on Wednesday (and got home just in time for Ridgewood Radio)

Great show, as usual.

And I actually remembered to listen live this time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm

Well maybe not a sequel, but seems to have the same characters and actors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
fred:

I'm already clicky-starring the whole show
Avatar 12:52pm
Mayuko:

@tmoyo yeah, Untamagiru! it does seem to be a kind of sequel. I might have to rob Japan Society if they have it, never have watched it! I saw a doc film of Rinsho Kadekaru that he directed though. which was pretty interesting.

Thanks Mayuko. I might just watch that in flight tonight. If you have a NYPL card, they have a free streaming service you can sign up for - Kanopy.... Pretty good selection - they are trying to compete with my library!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm

I think that was the first time on film I've seen any reference to Okinawan independence (or nationhood).

The reason the roads in Okwinawa are wide, b/c they were built by the Americans after the war (they drove on the right side of the road until the handover)
Avatar 1:12pm
northguineahills:

60% of all US military forces in Japan are in Okwinawa, the main contingency is Kadena AFB, as it's located in downtown Naha.

The number plate system is the same for all gaijins, not just American military personnel.

As of last year, all American military personnel are forbidden to consume alcohol, How they enforce that??? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've always wanted to visit Okinawa, and might just do so but I'm curious how gaijin are perceived there? Has the military presence ruined it for everyone?

@Dave B people there are used to having people from different countries in their everyday life. I had many coworkers from Okinawa at a place I worked at in Tokyo and it was interesting to hear about Okinawa from them. The conflicts there are real but it's not about xenophobia.

If I ever travel, Okinawa would be second on my list. Jersey City would be first. I know why it comes first, but it still sounds funny
Avatar 1:44pm
Mayuko:

@tmoyo phone rings at the end of that film sucks, but I might actually appreciate it because I always feel sad and left alone when a movie ends. Phone conversation would help me get back to the world of mortals!
Avatar 1:48pm

Jersey City does not sound as exciting as Okinawa for sure, haha.

When I was in Japan, there was a rumor that jiko-shiki plates (illuminated green plates) were for those convicted of DUI. It wasn't until right before I left I found out it was a myth.

@fred: You're rather strange, that's why we love you (I've been to Jersey City and let's just say (very little on the subject).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm

Yeah, phone calls do save you from gloomy situations. I once picked a super bad 大凶 omikuji (fortune cookie type of thing ), basically saying "you will die alone!" and a friend called me right after and lifted my spirits.

Hi Mayu, tuned in late I will play it back later. btw Don Sutherland was one of my favorite actor eventhough he appeared in many B movies. I thought his bast performance was "Mr. X" in Oliver Stone JFK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
fred:

@NGH: WFMU is there, that's more than enough a contribution to the world as far as I'm concerned. Idle talk anyway, there's no chance I can ever afford to travel: that would mean spending money on that instead of giving it to the station
Avatar 1:58pm

I know fred, and you'll be a stone's throw from what's left of NYC.

Avatar 1:59pm

@ngh It's so interesting even that there's such rumor existed. Feels like that shows how much things are handled in a pretty unclear way.

Jersey City is at least clean.

@tmoyo I hope you didn't get it at Asakusa temple, my former neighbor. They're known to be pretty harsh when it comes to fortune telling, never sugar coated. They've of course given me the worst omikuji too.

Hey mzmzzm! Think you'll enjoy since I think you've been to Okinawa too!
