I have my 4 am coffee looking out across my Brooklyn courtyard watching people's lights go on and off. They mostly get up, go to the bathroom and go back to bed.

4 am coffee means a very very early job or a long commute.... or vampire....
  12:12pm
elwyn:

I was wondering what happened to John Lurie, earlier this week. According to Wikipedia, he's focused on painting.
Avatar 12:12pm

lol Meghan. I guess I'm a vampire.

If it was a weekend in Brooklyn, at recently as two years ago, 4am is when I usually got home. (don't drink coffee, it doesn't like me, but love it!)

at one time in downtown ny you couldn't spit without hitting the lounge lizards. every bar, every club. it got to the point where i'd say, oh no, those guys!

Ha! Yes, Linda Lee. John Zorn too. Every night, somewhere, but expecially around Houston St.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Meghan:

I hated getting home at 4 am. That was the worst, especially working cause you would still be amped up from the job and slowly coming down and then the sun starts to rise and you think, well there goes the day.....
Avatar 12:19pm

i see you were there too. and DNA!

Meghan, why would you get up at 4 am if you worked the night before? Radio show?
Avatar 12:21pm

@crateslinger, were you at the Lounge Lizards show at the Squat Theatre, New Year's Eve 1980? if you were i'll scream! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm

oh man, for 6 am radio, I woke up at 4:20.... For fill in's back back back in the day, where I'd take any fill in slot to get my feet wet, you do what you had to do
Avatar 12:22pm

@LL, no I was not. Didn't get out of Massachusetts untill 1984.

@ Meghan - I got a lot of respect for you radio people. If I don't get my 7 hours, I am not a nice person. Linda, I missed a lot of the fun in the LES.

During the week, I usually can only sleep 4-6 hours. During the weekend, the same, but I usually also take a 2 hour nap. (I'm a very light sleeper).

My wife has the same weekday sleeping habits, but can sleep 10-16 hours on at least one weekend night to catch up. (heavy sleeper)

I wonder how much MBV is going to cost. Last time I didn't go because it was something like $70. Maybe I should shell it out this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm

I saw them the last time around and it was still a solid show. Before that the last time I saw them was 1992....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Nice work, Carm. Send that dude up the river.
  12:34pm
still b/p:

Was it his police background that allowed him to carry out scores of attacks and crimes without enough evidence for him to be identified or caught?
Avatar 12:34pm
northguineahills:

When I saw MBV in 2014 (?), it was maybe $40? It was worth it.

The only time I "saw" The The live was when I was in HS in '94 and a good friend a year older then I had a dorm next to the stadium where they were playing and hung her phone out the window so I could hear the show (they opened for Depeche Mode)
  12:35pm
elwyn:

@carmichael: that arrest made the news in Australia because the police wondered if he had committed crimes here too (3 child cases).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm

oh damn Carmichael! That is crazy. I saw that he was finally caught, lots of excitement about it. Didn't know you were involved. You are now at peace!

@still bp: apparently, although he was only a cop for 9 years. Fired for shoplifting.

Sac Sheriff received a tip last week based on either the Headline News series or Michelle McNamara's book. Sitting right there among us. Sheriff rousted him at 2:30 AM, just like he did his victims. Sweet justice awaits.

I've noticed since I've started this job, I'm not nearly caught up w/ the news of the day as I used to, as I'm so busy, so, thanks for bringing it to our attention.

/I think I know which locality you live in after reading that article.
(Everyone knows where I live, as I tell everyone.)
Avatar 1:38pm

My man clothes shopping consists of getting all the WFMU t-shirts as swag twice a year, and buying a pair of Levis once in a while.
Avatar 1:39pm
βrian:

It's probably more healthy to be at least somewhat out of touch with daily news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Meghan:

I have not paid attention to the news for a while now because I just can't keep up with it. It's like a stupid soap opera every day. I just want life to be even keel for a bit.... and nothing ever happens, so I feel like why bother paying that close attention?!
Avatar 1:43pm
Linda Lee:

at this point it's a matter of mental health to disengage ~ especially since most of what you're offered is emotional manipulation without hope of resolution!
Avatar 1:45pm
Linda Lee:

if i must know, i read the news in small doses. tv feels like assault.
Avatar 1:47pm
Carmichael:

@ngh, my screen name is my home town ... :)
Avatar 1:48pm

It's possible not to get too worked up over the news, I guess. But not for me.
Avatar 1:49pm

I really like this show, especially this set. This rock and roll stuff is making me nostalgic.
Avatar 1:49pm

I'm already despairing that this show is ending. Where will I go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm

I got one more song for you all.... then maybe you should grab a snack
Avatar 1:51pm

@Brian - Rush Limbaugh is on for another hour. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
!ke:

Almost all the special election results (whose results have been mostly very positive, w/a huge swing towards my side of the aisle) are the only things giving me hope lately. Other than that I feel much better when I can manage to tear myself away from news articles for a few days so I can stop feeling we are on course for a post-apocalyptic hellscape, where largely only preppers would survive. In other words, loons. Maybe fascist loons.
Avatar 1:54pm

I worry that the scorched earth campaign is destroying things, so quickly that there'll be nothing left once the pendulum swings back toward sanity.
Avatar 1:55pm
northguineahills:

@crateslinger: That's mostly my strategy as well, outside a few tees I get at shows or art fairs. Occasionally, I'll give my wife $ to order me something online.

Thanks for today's programming, Meghan. See you at the theme park again next week.

Meghan,Linda Lee;Brian: everyone I know is having this conversation. It's incredible the way these thugs have colonized our consciousness. It's not even possible to satyrize them, they're too malign and sinister, unless you want to go all Otto Dix on their asses. Stl,I'm actually afraid to ignore what's happening...want to do something but what?
Brian@1:54: I agree.

Meghan, have to liste later from the top. Thanks for show!
