Good evening Fryers. I think this Huun-Huur-Tu/Angelite collab would've worked out even without the massive reverb and compression. It was the 90s, though...

Sainkho Namthylak had her temporal membranes burst when beaten by Soviet police (don't think it was the KGB). She still suffers problems b/c of that injury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Michael 98145:

Wonder what the Tuvan word is for necklace-of-warthog-teeth ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Dan Bodah:

@northguineahills, never heard that! Do you have a ref about it? I'd like to find out more.

Wiki says she was beaten by 'Tuvan racketeers' and was left in a coma for two months, but also something about the removal of a malignant brain tumor.

listening in the north bay of SF, CA. digging the heck out of the selections tonight, Dan. hi.
Avatar 7:45pm
northguineahills:

Yeah, the clicks, ticks, pauses, etc trip me up. I like studying linguistics, but I'm barely competent in speaking one of them (English), and am barely conversational in maybe another four.
Avatar 7:46pm
Richard S:

If Xhosa is strange, wait until we meet aliens and try to figure out what they're saying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Dan Bodah:

@NGH: The only place I've ever been able to find nar sur (or nur sur) music is on youtube, where there are hundreds of videos with almost no info attached and exactly 1 short TV documentary in English from a Pakistani TV program. It's a style of music from Balochistan that's obscure even there, exists in the interstitial zone at the Afghan and Iranian borders, and is considered very "hick" to most Pakistanis.
Avatar 7:47pm
northguineahills:

Yeah, there's a Balochistani independence movement in both Iran and Pakistan, so its a no-go zone for anyone but the locals.
Avatar 7:48pm
northguineahills:

(and it's the most arid areas of both countries).
Avatar 7:52pm
Richard S:

So many little countries want to be independent. I am not certain this "new tribalism" is a good thing. But that discussion is for another time and place.
