I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Happy mid-June, Mayuko and all!!
Avatar 12:00pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko and listeners (by the way, the full dance party video is worth watching, it's 3 minutes long, just mute the sound)
Avatar 12:02pm Mayuko:

Happy June to you too, james! Glad to have you here. Hallos my radio family fred! That video is one of the most beautifulest things I ever seen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm doctorjazz:

Hi all, nice Saturday today
Avatar 12:04pm Mayuko:

Hi doctorjazz! Thanks for tuning in!!
Avatar 12:05pm fred:

Speaking of radio family, has anyone "seen" Scraps lately? I hope he's well
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

@fred I been wondering too actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

@fred Was just thinking that, not unrelated to possibly seeing him mentioned in another context on Twitter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, I do dig this Janet track. Great follow-up to DJ Shadow! Mid-90s chill FTW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

Tribe!! Yep, starring this whole show right now.
Avatar 12:11pm fred:

If that applies to anyone, I hope you enjoyed Eid and/or the start of the soccer world cup
Avatar 12:12pm Mayuko:

@james I looooove that Janet track too, and its music video is one of the bestests!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm doctorjazz:

Loved the Janey/Joni!
Avatar 12:15pm Mayuko:

@fred Foreigners/ peoples of colours don't seem to be welcomed to the world cup in russhur, though, according to the news!
Avatar 12:15pm Dave B:

I thought that GIF was the cheese rollers... Howdy Mayuko and Vertigonians
Avatar 12:17pm Dave B:

Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

Hola Dave B!! One can cheese-roll and call it dancing, too.
Avatar 12:20pm Dave B:

I'll be in and out of the comments. Getting stuff ready, but this sounds good on the roof!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm coelacanth∅:

Hi Mayuko and all
12:22pm Jeff g. on the stoop:

Ach missed a sweet start to the show! Will be here now. Hi Mayuko and vertigonians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm listener james from westwood:

"You can dance if you want to
but don't leave your cheese behind ..."
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

@Dave B Aw nice! Rooftop sounds like the best place to listen to that Sam x2 track.
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

Welcome, coelacanth∅! Happy to have you here, Jeff G!!
Avatar 12:27pm Mayuko:

"Leave your cheese behind" sounds like another English idiom that makes no sense at first.
Avatar 12:31pm fred:

Next week will be bittersweet for me: I'll be seeing 3 dance shows, but then nothing until mid-September

Avatar 12:33pm fred:

Isn't Palto Flats the label that re-released that amazing Midori Takada record?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm chresti:

HAYO VERTIGO from griffith park!!!
Avatar 12:36pm Mayuko:

@fred That brings your average down and makes you closer to the many of us hugging on the ground. Are you going somewhere over the summer?
Avatar 12:40pm Mayuko:

& yes, Palto Flats has released some cool reissues from JP 80's including Midori Takada! (just saw it on their bandcamp page. I can never remember names

Hallos, rbrt!! Welcome, chresti! Glad to have you here!
  12:42pm rbrt:

  12:42pm rbrt:

how's everyone doing today?
Avatar 12:44pm fred:

I'm staying put as always. I can't take more than a week off at a time, so a trip to Jersey City or Okinawa isn't in the cards. I can't afford a vacation anyway, never could, so I don't miss it.
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

How can people remember all the label names and band names? I even struggled to remember Duchamp the other day and had to ask "that toilet bowl guy! who was that?" Thankfully there are not many toilet bowl guys out there...
  12:45pm rbrt:

lol, I never remember any names
Avatar 12:45pm Mayuko:

@rbrt I'm extremely happy that all the crappy busy stuff are over for now and that I'm back on the radio today!!!! I hope you're enjoying your weekend too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Legend has it that if you balance yourself on one leg while standing on a rock at noon on the solstice with your eyes closed, you achieve a heightened feeling of vertigo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm tmoyo:

Hola! Mayuko & todos. Estoy bailando! un poco sueno..
I started learning spanish on saturdays.
Avatar 12:49pm Mayuko:

@fred I know, a vacation longer than 3 days is a mythical being. Legend has that too.
Hi Ken!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm listener james from westwood:

@rbrt Coming off a caffeine high from early-morning coffee and doughnuts; now proofreading and grooving to the Vertigo!
  12:50pm rbrt:

@Mayuko you produce a crazy amount of work! It's good to recharge
Avatar 12:51pm Mayuko:

@tmoyo oh nice! I'll shove some Spanish stuff now then!

  12:53pm rbrt:

that's all I got...my spanish is like kindergarten level :D
Avatar 12:55pm fred:

It was easy for me to remember the label name because I tried to order the Midori Takada record but couldn't enter a non US delivery address. I only remember bad stuff. But I just used that bandcamp link you provided, so thanks for that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm tmoyo:

nice little birds rbrt
  12:57pm rbrt:

thanks tmoyo!...not mine and ironically i can't think of then ame where I took it from lol

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm listener james from westwood:

All those Q-Tips cleaned out my ears!
Avatar 1:01pm fred:

I think my fave music video ever is Sabotage
  1:02pm rbrt:

@fred agree...and the remake of that with the muppets lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm listener james from westwood:

"Sabotage" is tha bomb. Beasties chose well for their video directors.
Mayuko, we love having you every week! So glad this has been an island after weeks of swimming through chaos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm listener james from westwood:

I'm at the end of two very long-duration projects, and I'm feeling burned out. This is my first weekend that hasn't been wall-to-wall work in a month. Taking Tuesday completely off to recharge.
Avatar 1:03pm northguineahills:

Ok, I bought the vinyl version when "Entroducing..." came out in '96, and I finally get the punneriffic word play...(Georges Perec would be proud)
Avatar 1:04pm fred:

The rest of my top 5 is probably all Kate Bush
Avatar 1:06pm northguineahills:

Do I wear my El Tri jersey to watch Die Mannschafft destroy Mexico? (I actually like the German team.)
  1:08pm rbrt:

"....hosted by humans"
Avatar 1:08pm northguineahills:

Before I understood music (outside of piano, cornet, and french horn practice), New Order's video for "True Faith" really stood out to me visually as a kid when I was 11, so, when I heard it again when I was 16, New Order really stood out to me (when music finally clicked w/ me).
Avatar 1:11pm Brian in UK:

Hello Mayuko

@ngh I was chuffed after listening to Endtroducing to realise that I had one of the samples. Stem/Long Stem Side 2 Track 1.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm listener james from westwood:

Can confirm that this American is at an absolute fucking low point for wanting to celebrate anything this coming Fourth. Seems like a good day to organize and mobilize and resist.
  1:15pm rbrt:

love that track solo he de quedar
Avatar 1:15pm fred:

New Order opened my ears too. I first heard them at a cousin's birthday party, and just had to go and ask the DJ what it was. I don't even remember the track, probably Blue Monday, as it was 1984 or so
Avatar 1:16pm northguineahills:

@Brian: I unwittingly picked up most of the samples of Entroducing in the ensuing 5 years. Didn't realized it until almost a decade later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I wonder if Ken will turn over his 7/4 slot to Daddy Gherkin for Garbecue II?
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

I do love Sabotage too! I said fav video so lightly but this is actually a topic that requires real serious contemplation to decide, haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm listener james from westwood:

As a kid, I had more ready answers for "What's your favorite video? in middle school than "What's your favorite band?"
Avatar 1:20pm Brian in UK:

Mayuko. I am somewhat anti when it comes to videos, lights show, dancers, stadia. All a distraction. Just take lots of drugs.
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

@james glad we're surviving! feels easier to forget to take a break especially when you're a freelancer.
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon ngh!!
Avatar 1:21pm fred:

I love New Order's Perfect Kiss. As a song mainly, but I also love the video, low-key as it is. Might bump a Kate Bush video out of my top 5 (Army Dreamers?), but maybe not (I still blink when I hear than song)
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

& welcome on board, Brian in UK!!! Glad to have you all here!
Avatar 1:23pm fred:

not "than song", "that song"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm tmoyo:

I sang Regret & Bizzarre Love Triangle at a karaoke party and it was real fun.
  1:26pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello, Mayuko! Hello Soundlovers!
Avatar 1:27pm Sem:

Hello, Mayuko, Soundlovers, and others late to the show.
  1:29pm Rickwaukee:

@Doug: Thanks for all you do.
Avatar 1:29pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee I want that figurine in my toilet!
Avatar 1:29pm Mayuko:

(not where it flushes, obviously)
Avatar 1:29pm fred:

@tmoyo: Juliana Hatfield covered Bizarre Love Triangle, a track that blew my mind by merging my high school and college selves
  1:30pm Rickwaukee:

Rip Tide Warning!
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

Doug! What Rickwaukee said! & Hello Sem! Never too late!
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

Things are more difficult now that I see Duchamp wasn't the only toilet bowl guy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm tmoyo:

@fred: I have to check that out!

My favorite video would be fatboy slim's "Weapon of Choice" with the fabulous Christopher Walken.
  1:34pm rbrt:

I'm so lost, what are toilet guys? lol
Avatar 1:35pm Sem:

Mayuko: this .gif is kinda famous in leadership circles. The rest of this pretty short clip first shows the bare-chested fellow doing his thing. After a bit, the second guy joins. In another minute, dozens of people are dancing.
The takeaway is: it is always the first follower who lends credence to what the leader is doing, and it has powerful effects on the larger crowd.
Avatar 1:37pm fred:

@Sem: I want the next leadership training to feature this while I exit early to raid the bar
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

@rbrt today's comment board is somewhat chaos and think I'm the one to blame haha!
Avatar 1:38pm Brian in UK:

Is it true that every film that Christopher Walken makes he dances at some point?
Avatar 1:38pm fred:

@Mayuko: Why should I blame when I can thank?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm tmoyo:

@Brian: probably... I've seen lots. but there's just too many.
  1:39pm Rickwaukee:

Liked Monopoly Child Star Searchers a lot - that's quite an artist(s) name too - I don't even want to know what it mean but I wonder what it means
  1:39pm rbrt:

@mayuko lol
Avatar 1:39pm Brian in UK:

The Comments board is a blameless space. Hopefully.
Avatar 1:41pm fred:

C_C! I used to see him quite often at shows, though not in a while. Really nice guy, I'm really happy to hear him getting airplay on the station
Avatar 1:42pm Mayuko:

@Sem That's hilarious that that guy is presented as the role model of leadership! Truly enjoying what you do makes you a leader!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm chresti:

The birds by my window like Bruma
Avatar 1:43pm Mayuko:

@fred ah nice! this album is pretty great!
Avatar 1:44pm Sem:

Haha, fred!
Avatar 1:44pm Mayuko:

@chresti some birds make noises like machines themselves, I'm not surprised they'd like this! haha.
Avatar 1:45pm fred:

@tmoyo: I don't think it was officially released, so if you can't find it, contact me and I'll send it to you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm chresti:

I feel like Snow White
Avatar 1:47pm northguineahills:

If I din;t know better, I'd think Jesse or Sam Segal was at the helm (and I faved this C_C track when Scott Williams played it,)
Avatar 1:48pm fred:

C_C's shows are always great, he brings a dance vibe to experimental/noise shows that's both on point and refreshing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm listener james from westwood:

@Brian in UK: Sadly, Batman Returns didn't feature any Walken hoofing.
Avatar 1:49pm northguineahills:

@chresti: Someday your prince will come?
1:49pm Jeff g. on the stoop:

When I started thinking of videos, YLT's "Sugarcube"/rock school comes to mind...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 1:51pm Mayuko:

Have a nice weekend, coelacanth∅!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm chresti:

Avatar 1:53pm Mayuko:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm listener james from westwood:

This idea giveaway idea appeals to the open-source/copyleft side of me!

Many thanks, Mayuko, for the wonderful show!
Avatar 2:12pm Mayuko:

@rbrt haha! I make sure I hire very large and music-knowledgable security guards who also judge which video in question is the best before throwing someone out.
Avatar 2:12pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening!!! See you all next week!!!!!
