"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

I imagine Rolnick does something very similar to this with his DVR when he watches Nick at Nite.

Scott:

This intro always reminds me of the sped up and then slowed down versions of the Beatles songs (Julia, Tomorrow Never Knows) posted on the WFMU blog back in 2007. Amazingly, no link rot after all this time, and the mp3s still sound beautiful: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/10/the-complete-be.html

The 9am show intro:

I love this station, the music you play during the 9am show, but I need to voice some feedback. The intro to this show is nerve wrecking to hear. I wish it was different. If not different then not a full 10mins of various modified speeds. I have to turn the volume down and wait 10mins for the set to start, because that intro is kinda like hearing nails on chalkboard. I’m sorry but please consider an alt intro.

The 9am show intro: I like the Neil Rolnick as a stand-alone piece, but, as a repetitive theme, it sometimes annoys me as well. But, that might mean I need to dash out the door for work. That said, I dig it....

9AM, common reaction, try sticking with it 20 more shows. something may unlock.

i missed the intro today (blame the children). wake up is very musical to me, but one thing that has helped me through the years is to approach difficult musical pieces as works of art and just try to listen to what the artist is attempting and acknowledge that all art is not meant to be easy or pleasant or pretty. (though wake up is very pleasant & fun, to me)

workshop de lyon is nice. shortest jazz songs coming to mind are all on john zorn's naked city album, however. a nice number called "New York Flat Top Box" is one second longer than de lyon's "Very Short" but, right after a sweet rendition of "Lonely Woman" comes this lineup: "Igneous Ejaculation" – 0:20
"Blood Duster" – 0:13
"Hammerhead" – 0:08
"Demon Sanctuary" – 0:38
"Obeah Man" – 0:17
