Hello Stanley! I believe you are - can you hear the mellow tones of Florent Vollant?

I never smoke tobacky, but I might see if I can get a cigarillo loosey. It's been one of those weeks....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm

Yikes, NGH, that doesn't sound good - but if a loosarillo helps...

W/ my first meds in 22 years, I went 6 days w/o REM sleep (or sleeping more then 45-60 mins at a time) . I took a sleep aid last night and got 4 hours of sleep.

Now that really doesn't sound very good, NGH, hope you manage to get past it and get some rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Stanley:

NGH:I too have great difficulty getting a good night's sleep. I listen to sleepwithmepodcast every night. The guy who presents it has become like a close family member to me. Give it a go.

According to a former coworker who did his PhD in Germany, Stockhausen is also a sandwich brand there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
David D:

Hello Fred - I wasn't aware of that, maybe a regional thing?
Avatar 4:54pm
Carmichael:

Heya David, listeners and sandwiches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
David D:

Greetings Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
fred:

I actually found their site: www.stockhausen-spezialitaeten.de
It doesn't seem like a sandwich brand, maybe more like catering. But he had brought back a wrapper with that logo from his defense buffet, he cut off the logo and stuck it on the office wall under a poster for Hymnen
Avatar 4:59pm
northguineahills:

Thought this was Zyklus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
David D:

Fred: That's about halfway between you and me, but maybe they do long-distance catering. And funny you mention Hymnen...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
kuba:

heya dave & all! sorry i'm late, stuck in homework movie watching. now i'm really curious about stockhausens double drummers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
David D:

NGH: Zyklen was the one for one percussionist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
David D:

Kuba: That was the single drummer, now we're on to ten instruments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm

@David: I think he did his PhD at TU Berlin (I'm not sure, because there are a lot of link between my workplace and TU Berlin, so I might remember that wrong, ten years later)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
Parq:

Counter-intuitively this stuff makes good background sounds for working.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm

Glad to hear it. Maybe it can help with sleep as well.
Avatar 5:43pm

When I was an undergrad. One of my initiatives to take music theory and electronic music classes was to get access to the music library, where they had Stockhausen, Xenakis, and Cage scores. I spent hours xeroxing them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
David D:

NGH: Sounds like something I would have done. Do you still have the copies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
fred:

@ngh: I remember being quite impressed by the level of detail in the specifications for the electronics when I first saw a Stockhausen score. Then a coworker how had played that and others (meaning controlling the electronics live) told me the important stuff is not written down, and sometimes the "official" score is not how the stuff was really set up
Avatar 5:48pm
northguineahills:

...where I then used them to decorate my apt and make flyers, I think I only used Cage and Parmegiani live.....
Avatar 5:48pm

@David: I have maybe four left. Most got thrown away by roommates or gfs, or got spilled on, attacked by cats, etc...
Avatar 5:51pm
northguineahills:

I prefer Fluxus and aleatorical scores most of the time (Xenakis, notwithstanding, but I'm not skilled enough to play his scores).
Avatar 5:52pm
northguineahills:

I have a different version of Aus den sieben Tagen....(I think)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
David D:

I have a couple of Xenakis recordings on the top of my current pile, likely to show up here soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
fred:

re: Xenakis, I heard a nice version of Pleiades by Kuniko Kato recently. She played all six parts through overdubbing, so it's not a live thing. But I saw play her Rebonds and it was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
David D:

Fred: Nice! Yes, that is in fact one of the CDs I currently have waiting for more attention (not today, I don't think).
Avatar 6:01pm
northguineahills:

I saw the JACK quartet w/ expanded orchestra do a night of Xenakis. My wife and I ran into Lea Bertrucci and her bf at the time (another talented musician) in line. It was everything I ever wanted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm
fred:

@David: I'm a fan. I was disappointed she didn't have a merch table this year, I would have bought it (her label has ridiculously high quality downloads for sale though). I have a signed copy of her Reich record, the only record I got signed in about a decade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
David D:

Okay, one more cycle of Stockhausen and then some lighter fare to close...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
David D:

Fred: Yes, she is great - I'll have to catch her somewhere sometime as well...
Avatar 6:09pm
northguineahills:

@fred: I can personally ask her to send you a merch link. I still email/text her every few months.
Avatar 6:11pm
northguineahills:

When I first met her, I met up w/ her bf (and old friend of mine), and she was playing in a scummy dive bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, opening for Talibam! There was maybe 15 people at the show (I love scummy dive bars).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
fred:

@ngh: I was talking about Kuniko Kato, not Lea Bertucci. I love Lea's music, but to me I really need to be there, because it's so different each time. Hearing the same thing twice wouldn't cut it
Avatar 6:12pm
northguineahills:

Don't think I've heard this Stockhausen, that's rate....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
David D:

This is his Tierkreis or Zodiac cycle, we're leaving Pisces for Aries right now.
Avatar 6:17pm
northguineahills:

errr... rare...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
fred:

@David: By "lighter fare" you don't mean "lighter" as something to set fire with, I guess? If you do, Professor Bad Trip has some nice moments
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
David D:

Taurus was the really quiet one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
David D:

Haha, lighter as in something Stockhausen would not have approved of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
fred:

I don't know what was his opinion of Stock, Hausen and Walkman
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
Doug Schulkind:

Will this subway take me to the Continent? Yes. Yes I think it shall!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
fred:

On the other hand, Stockhausen did have his Licht period
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
fred:

That's eerie: if I fumble an apostrophe, Ike pops up; and now I dare a bad pun, and Doug appears
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
David D:

Doug! We may be heading for another continent soon (if time allows...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
David D:

Fred: Yes, we won't make it to the light tonight, I don't think. Got stuck in the intuition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

Continent content is something I am content with.
Avatar 6:38pm
northguineahills:

There's his son, Markcus Stockhausen (cornet player/composer) as well as Stock, Hausen, & Walkman....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm

Interesting that Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun was basically done at the same time as Set Sail for the Sun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm

It was the year of the sun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm

NGH: Yes it is a very musical family in fact.

@Doug: SMK has many unhealthy obsessions. But as long as his healthy one with the station wins out, all is well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm

Been waiting for Bird.. Thanks, David
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm

Hey, it all seems perfectly healthy to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm

@fred
Truth is truth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
David D:

Yes, the bird was remarkably patient, Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm
fred:

@Doug: I'm not sure anymore, I've heard a differing opinion. I guess it depends upon what the meaning of the word 'is' is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm
David D:

Thanks everyone, and have a great week!
