Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Scott McDowell:

Cool - yeah I figured it's out there just didn't see it on the homepage when I glanced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Ken From Hyde Park:

Oddly, Ken is filling in on Sept. 12. He's already trying to get his slot back.

hmm, the link on the home page for the upcoming schedule actually leads to the current schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Ken From Hyde Park:

Upcoming schedule here; www.wfmu.org... The trick is to Google prior schedules and play around with the number in the URL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am coelacanth∅:

i found out. the first link leads to the upcoming; the 2nd one, for the listy version leads to the current one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am fred:

  10:11am Lore:

Hi Scott. To follow up on William Parker & swing, thought you might like to see this passage from Parker's Sound Journal, self-published c.1998:

"Swing is any life-affirming gesture: bird singing in the tree, baby being born, little kid skipping down the street. All green plants swing. Salmons swing. Swing has nothing to do with music. Swing has to do with the restoration of humanity.

"Martha lies in her bed surrounded by her five children. She has cancer and is dying. She could not care less about 'Does music swing?' If someone cured her cancer, that would be swing.

"The bottom line is all terminology is only a rung on the ladder. Nothing can substitute for accepting the mystery. We must accept the mystery on its own terms."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Scott McDowell:

Love it, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am ⓘⓚⓔ:

"Not Scott Williams, Scott McDowell." I remember when some guy named Joe (?) became an FMU DJ and he just called himself DJ Black Ops because there were already a buttload of Joes here and it was just a lot less confusing. Maybe you need a bad-ass DJ name like that? How about DJ Marble Countertops? DJ Unwise Hair Part? DJ Soundproof Phone Booth?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Doug Schulkind:

Just like old times, Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am fred:

@Ike: DJ-vey metal?

Avatar 10:28am Chris from DC:

Digging Gospel of Mars much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am joe mulligan:

I think I'll never forget the sequence of Scott M wrapping up the late night/early morning show with, "Thanks for listening, thanks for hanging" then the shocking trumpets of "Modeh Ani" by Regesh for JM in the AM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am fred:

@joe mulligan: for me the classic transition from from JM in the AM to Scott, because of the way the anthem just seamlessly segues into Hipnosis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am joe mulligan:

haha Fred!!
Avatar 10:33am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Gospel of Mars really resonates with me. Clicky star time! On Amish records??
DJ Charlie Foxtrot?

Avatar 11:11am Rev. Turnip Druid:

HOLY CRAP i forgot to biscuitize someone yesterday.
  11:11am Morphe:

Turnip Druid: I realized how false so much of the USq Greenmarket was false when I asked a guy in coveralls for parsnips and he asked me "what are they????""" I do not live there any longer but I always liked the organic bearded guy [Greg??Craig?? -selling the best garlic and the best/deformed organic carrots- a real farmer with lovely interns!!!] Hope he is surviving..
Avatar 11:14am Rev. Turnip Druid:

USA people are not to know what parsnips are, lest they be branded communists. Vegetable Ignorance is a point of nationalist pride. Maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am fred:

@RTD: I guess it comes down to you, me (stupid enough to put my neck out), your boss (probably to blame for distracting meetings), or Bryce (who already has the B initial and didn't deliver on a rightfully highly expected swag item)
  11:18am Morphe:

Turnips and parsnips
PS That was 1980s

pss -Recipe: melange de steamed parsnips and carrots - globs of butter a bit of sea salt and a tonne of ground pepper with fresh green beans or sugarsnaps or podded peas with roasted potatoes and roasted yams.. A glass of white while cooking and a bottle of red at the table!!!
Bon Apeteite!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am steveo:

we get parsnips at the food coop; also i've asked folks at the greenmarket in brooklyn where they live and oftentimes the food is coming from upstate but they employ locals to help out (i mean, who wants to travel for hours for a part-time job?)
  11:21am HChew:

Play one for Deuce lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Passaic River Blues:

Third time I'm hearing this Sun Ra cover this summer and it gets better each time.
Avatar 11:23am Rev. Turnip Druid:

While in London a few weeks ago it was discovered that "sultana" appears to be a British English term for what USA people call "raisins." ... and suddenly the word "raisin" sounded monstrously vulgar, far less lyrical. This is truly a land of savages.

Much better if fruit sounded like vampire ladies.
Avatar 11:23am Rev. Turnip Druid:

also: what the River Blues said.
  11:24am zzz:

yes!!!! long rally is the best!!
  11:26am Morphe:

Steveo - you are correct - one good Soho born 70s was the pretzel woman and anoter 2 friends were Milkmaids (Those bbottles) [name escapes me] One was from LA and the other from NZ!!! Go Figa as we say in BKLYN!!!! Said in BKLYN!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Passaic River Blues:

Scott McDowell, you beautiful bastard.
Avatar 11:28am D. Lightfoot:

Are we heading for some Ayler?
Avatar 11:28am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@RTD-In the UK, grilled cheese sandwiches are called Toasties. I make a pretty good grilled cheese sandwich, and will learn to grill salmon on a cedar plank tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am fred:

@RTD: "raisin" is just French for "grape". That you guys chose to use the term for the shriveled stuff is indeed an indictment
Avatar 11:35am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I wasn't in that meeting! Not responsible! I'm not with "those people"!
Swag For Life Member 11:36am donpappy:

Which email was it again for the Gospel of Mars tickets?
  11:39am Morphe:

When I squatted in London 1986-9(central, Stoke Newington, Eastend and Brixton in the End) I was the sandwhich man of the house(s) .. I tried to explain why they called me Dagwood in Barnes and Nobles in NYC in 1979 but they could not reference the reference??? So much for the long lost "Funnies" Only X-ray, Jonsie and myself seem to recall pulling images from the sunday funnies with - not playdough ??? what was that stuff???
Avatar 11:40am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Rinde Eckert? Holy crap, sudden flashback to the "Slow Fire" piece which I haven't heard since the '90s... wasn't there a DVD of a performance? egad, awash in flash-backery...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Morphe - Silly Putty, after a while it'd collect bits of hair and other junk as you wadded it into a ball and bounced it.
Avatar 11:43am D. Lightfoot:

Is there a sophisticated sounding culinary term in the UK for cooking with organ meats—like offalry or something—or is it just cooking with organ meats?
  11:45am Morphe:

Thanks KFHP: Only Ken From Hyde Park, X-ray, Jonsie and myself remember Silly Putty ..... I still make Dagwood triple deckers at 0300 after not eating all day ... No Taylor ham - I leave that to X-Ray and Jones and the scary clown posse and the IBJ ...
  11:47am Morphe:

Opening line of Joyce's ULYSSES: " Leopold Bloom ate with great relish the inner organs of both beast and fowl." Almost correct????
