I have that Hipnosis album on a double LP reissued under Jackie McLean's name. In the liner notes there's this quote from Cannonball Adderley:
Hipness is not a state of mind. It's a fact of life.

1. A small house, structure, or dwelling which is defined as being so small, that if one were to point a shotgun at the door and fire, everybody within the dwelling would be hit or killed. -urban dictionary

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am coelacanth∅:

my brother, when he was a teenager he and his friends started wearing old trench coats. they stole groceries often (probably especially my brother) and he sewed pockets into his coat that easily could've fit lps.
don't worry though - he wont be going to the record fair.

Alumnus= male singular, alumna=female singular, both pronounced as you would think.
  Swag For Life Member 10:43am bk845:

Alumni (alumnee) = male plural, alumnae (alumneye) = female plural.
  10:43am judy from croton:

Lester Young! I knew it! Don’t know much about history....
  10:44am Listener Gregory:

ECM's website says that the Keith Jarrett concert was part of a tour by the trio, which ECM set up. So, Dewey Redman was tapping his foot at home, I guess.
  Swag For Life Member 10:44am bk845:

A group of male and female would be alumni, since most languages use the masculine form this way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am GeorgeSimian:

I saw Rip, Rig and Panic at Notting Hill Carnival when I was a kid. Was crazy good. I just stumbled into it, but it really blew me away. Think it was their last concert ever too.
  Swag For Life Member 10:45am bk845:

Incidentally, that's also why you can call a group of men and women "guys" (as a followup to Fabio's rant this morning).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am coelacanth∅:

i never knew of that rig rig & panic album either. it was Ken who introduced me to the band rip rig & panic, sometime in the 80s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am GeorgeSimian:

Rip Rig and Panic was Ninah Cherry's band

When I was in high school (1980-1985) "he" or "his" was generic third person indefinite. Our lady English teacher said this was considered unfair by some and was changing to they and their.

What's wrong with y'all? I mean, not whats "wrong" with y'all, but what's wrong with "y'all"'. Any you can use "all y'all" to refer to a group. Ain't English fun!

@WildNeil I've seen you getting evangelical about Mother! on othe chats! REALLY want to see it, hope it finds its way to Amazon Prime UK, not available yet.

Avatar 11:15am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Judy-DA is pretty out there for a commercial director, I agree. I was an undergraduate at NMSU doing calcluus in my dorm on a Friday night and then went and saw Pi at the Fountain Theatre in La Mesilla. It really resonated at the time!

@Tim from C-I had classical guitar lessons from a jazz guitarist in a small desert town. He recommended I get that Santana/Mahivishnu JMcC album. Glad I did!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Lewis:

@Roberto - right on...
  11:28am JakeGould:

Oh… Darren Aronofsky? I thank him for “Requiem for a Dream” because it shows very specifics of life growing up in Brighton Beach I have never seen on film… Like junkies and old ladies sitting in front of buildings all day… Neil Simon doesn’t go there! But past that I find his work to be so devoid of any hint of humor or redemption it’s insufferable. Yeah, I thought “Pi” was great when I first saw it. But he’s just playing the same “extreme” schtick all the time. Not a fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Henry in Hopatcong:

Good morning, Scott and rally team. Where would one go to find some disco / jazz fusion? (If such a thing exists.)
  11:38am Listener Gregory:

@Ken: Hell?
  11:39am JakeGould:

@Ken: I am pretty sure there have to be more than a few disco/jazz things out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Crudbringer:

Poinciana! From my Dad's record collection... Over the Garrard, off the Harmon-Kardon kit-amp, into the Quads, nothin but net!

Avatar 11:42am Pablo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am officina:

Welcome back Scott....rally on.
  11:43am Listener Gregory:

The Sonny Rollins album "Don't Ask" has two disco-ish cuts that I enjoyed. However, most jazz musicians who did disco were not actually interested in the music and simply did it to drum up sales. The results were predictable.
  11:43am Listener Gregory:

Avatar 11:44am AnAnonymousParty:

Hmm, I took it to mean FRHP was looking for a fusion of disco and jazz. I got scared, visions of modern interpretive dance were conjured up in my mind.
