What in tarnation is going on in here?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Doug Schulkind:

If I don't lose my horse, does that make me a stable genius?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
coelacanth∅:

so that there, that's not a horseless carriage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
Sam Segal:

Hahahahaha, a very stable genius, indeed, @Doug! Tremendously stable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for clocking in, @Ike and @Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
coelacanth∅:

howdy Sam! and hoarse people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
coelacanth∅:

and oh man i missed me some King Tubby. bummer. and little beaver. i always like little beaver.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
coelacanth∅:

i would've been paying attention, if i'd been paying attention to paying attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm
coelacanth∅:

i don't know of whom you speak regarding autotune; but i'm at least as much an antifan of rap, in general. so i was already looking through some bandcamp purchases to put on!
....i'll hold on, if it's <3 minutes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
coelacanth∅:

okay well - it was a little annoying, but it is a clever use of autotune, i'll concede.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
Sam Segal:

Hahahaha, you may have been on my mind, @Coel! We've got one more rap song to go! Don't run far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
coelacanth∅:

you do what moves you Sam, PLEASE! play as much rap or autotune as you're in the mood for, i'll keep checking back. you can't lose this one so easily!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
coelacanth∅:

(sounds like you've already got it out of your system though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Sam Segal:

Hahahaha I appreciate it, Coel. Those two tunes were left over from when I went on a bit of a rap binge during last week's show.
Avatar 10:10pm
Mayuko:

Good evening, Sam and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
coelacanth∅:

heh -i was plenty aware of what you were playing last week. it wasn't coincidence that i checked in when i did!

- for the record though (not that anyone should care) i do really like a small % of rap. mostly 90s stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
coelacanth∅:

hi Mayuko!
Avatar 10:12pm
Scraps:

I’m intrigued by some rap, and I look to WFMU to guide me. Joe D especially.

But nobody can turn me around on autotune. It’s diabolical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Sam Segal:

Hey, Mayuko! Great to see you!
Avatar 10:14pm
Mayuko:

Hi coelacanth∅! and Drummer family Scraps! I should check out Peaceful Solutions too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Sam Segal:

Scraps, you and I will certainly have to agree to disagree on autotune. I actually read a fantastic essay about autotune today, published on Pitchfork (I know, I know). Have a look if you dare: pitchfork.com...
Avatar 10:19pm
Scraps:

I could academically make peace with autotune. But I’m going to viscerally hate it. My mind could agree with people who defend it. My ears couldn’t.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
coelacanth∅:

that chief keef track was interesting (though, as i said.....) it reminds me of the Godley Creme track "inanimate objects" from 1979. they likely got that affect in a very labor-intensive way though. i don't know if autotune existed then.
(even if it did, it doesn't sound quite exactly like it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
coelacanth∅:

and yes,Scraps i think you've articulated for me as well.
Avatar 10:23pm
Scraps:

and h’lo drummer family Mayuko, CoelacanthØ, Sam Segal!
Avatar 10:24pm
Scraps:

Sorry, lower-case coelacanthØ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
coelacanth∅:

get me off my high horse!

...a lot of commenters capitalize every name and moniker, regardless of the choices of who they address.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
coelacanth∅:

(and i'm sure some people think i'm incapable of proper english punctuation, when i'm actually pretty skilled at it)
Avatar 10:32pm
Scraps:

you, unskilled? I would never even think of that
Avatar 10:35pm
Scraps:

My skills go way up and down, depending on how my stroke vs brain is feeling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Scraps! i think you know that my choices of what to & when to capitalize and when to not use a period, etc are conscious decisions. (or a general conscious decision made at some point in the past)
not everyone is as conscious as you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm in trouble. i don't own any oven mitts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Sam Segal:

Not even the ones for your ears, @Coel?!
Avatar 10:42pm
Scraps:

This is great! Braxton is up and down for me, but man, five seconds in, it was awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
coelacanth∅:

ears? you mean these singed things on the side of my head?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Sam Segal:

The fact that he could just totally rip a heater like this, when he wanted to, I just love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
coelacanth∅:

i like the majority of Braxton, but i especially like his baritone work
Avatar 10:47pm
Scraps:

Love hatArt/HatHut, very high quality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
coelacanth∅:

(maybe just 'cause i rarely hear the baritone sax played so adeptly)
  10:52pm
Jeff g. out with the dog again:

Now we're talking...
Avatar 10:52pm
Scraps:

Claire Daly is a pretty great baritone sax player. Can’t think of many more....
  10:57pm
Jeff g. out with the dog again:

Hamiet Blueitt, @Scraps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll check that out, Scraps.

hey Jeff!
hey the dog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Sam Segal:

Jeff G (and Jeff G's dog)! Thanks for dropping by. Let's not forget the great Boston Baritone Saxophonist Serge Chaloff!
Avatar 11:02pm
Scraps:

Jeff G, oh yeah, and he has a awesome, melodious name. Hamiet Bluiett, Hamiet Bluiett!
Avatar 11:04pm
Scraps:

Oops, Jeff lower-case g! Again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
coelacanth∅:

i cannot conjure up a pronunciation for Hamiet Blueitt that i'm satisfied with.
Avatar 11:07pm
northguineahills:

Was here at the beginning, but needed a nap....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
coelacanth∅:

seems ironic - a publication called "pitchfork" neglecting country music.

hey ngh
  11:11pm
Jeff g. out with the dog again:

Pitchfork just hired a new EIC, who seems very cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
coelacanth∅:

- and the serious music in the background...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Sam Segal:

Here's that article about Pitchfork and Country Music. Genuinely one of the better pieces of music writing I have encountered recently: popula.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Sam Segal:

I saw that, Jeff. I am interested to see what she does. Pitchfork is interesting because it seems they now want to appeal to every micro-demographic...which has its upsides. For instance, they have Seth Colter Walls writing great jazz and experimental reviews, and Philip Sherburne writing excellent stuff about electronic music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Sam Segal:

Also, apologies for the lack of variety here, but I had to play two songs off this Linger album, I couldn't choose just one.
  11:37pm
Jeff g. out with the dog again:

I really want to get that Linger album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
coelacanth∅:

that's an interesting article, so far. i'll have to come back to it. i need to eat NOW!
...i've answered that question, "what kind of music do you like?" -similarly to those privileged he writes of (i did not grow up privileged; but i did grow up in a mostly "white" suburbia) ...but my answer was/is more like "many kinds of music but i'm very particular about my rap and my country"
the fact is i'm just as particular about jazz (or what gets called jazz), "hiphop", pop, rock, salsa.....
i should (& sometimes do) just answer that question as my brother used to: "good music".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Sam Segal:

Oh, and thanks for popping back in, @NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Sam Segal:

Wow, I am gonna steal the "good music" technique. Thanks for the tip, @Coel.
