Folks, if you feel like dropping some change (or even full dollar bills) into the Horse Coffer, feel free to click on the link at the top of the playlist here and donate to IYLYH for the WFMU October Fundraiser.

NGH, I had no idea you were a quilter! Welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth∅:

greetings Sam and centaurs ...isn't that what a centaur is - 1/2 horse 1/2 quilter?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
coelacanth∅:

music for the quilting club i knew what you meant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
Sam Segal:

An intellectually serious quilting club, @Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
coelacanth∅:

i had a ...a thing - with a quilter. she was around 32 at the time 1/2 or less the age of all the other women. she loved it!
Avatar 9:55pm
northguineahills:

I would love to try my hand at quilting, but seeing as I have no manual dexterity and when I try to mend my clothes the result looks like a coked up Parkinson's sufferer, I doubt I'd last long...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
coelacanth∅:

it's all in the marketing,ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
melinda:

@ngh haha
Avatar 9:59pm
Scraps:

h’lo hey h’lo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm
melinda:

I have manual dexterity but the precision & measuring involved in quilting feels boring to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
Sam Segal:

Scraps and Melinda, great to see you both!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
melinda:

Knitting also seems tedious. Hi Sam!
Avatar 10:05pm
Scraps:

One of my roommates apparently got followed on twitter today by Halle Berry. Don’t know why, but, well, congrats!
Avatar 10:09pm
Scraps:

Knitting, when I took it up thirty years ago, was relaxing. Now I think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to do one-handed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
coelacanth∅:

that's curious.
isn't Halle Berry known as a bit of a political &/or socio-political activist? if so maybe she liked a post your roommate made? (does that make any sense? i don't know how twitter works)
Avatar 10:11pm
Scraps:

That’s probably it. My roommate is active politically, especially (as many women are) currently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
coelacanth∅:

i like this sarrsew never heard of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
melinda:

I don't Twitter but yeah, anyone can notice and follow anyone. Social media is grossing me out lately, seems so mindless.
Avatar 10:14pm
TDK60:

Howdo: Can only stay briefly. Hats off to Otis Rush, and Marty Balin -- passed days ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for dropping in, TDK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
coelacanth∅:

aww Otis too?
...here it comes the making up for lost time end of year mass exodus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
coelacanth∅:

rest in peace Otis Rush
(& Marty Balin, again)
  10:19pm
ike:

Dig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
coelacanth∅:

(hmm i guess "mass exodus" is a redundant phrase)
Avatar 10:20pm
Scraps:

Yeah. Otis Rush was, what, 84? When I looked at his life, for the last thirteen years or so, he couldn’t make music anymore because of a stroke. I’m always sad when I hear about that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
coelacanth∅:

- welcome back to the mic breaks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
coelacanth∅:

Scraps yeah me too. when Curtis got paralysed i got depressed for i don't know how long...but then he soldiered on somehow anyway!
(it still was a bummer cuz you know it wasn't the same)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
coelacanth∅:

...i'm sorry.
i'm telling you this.
Avatar 10:26pm
TDK60:

I used to be in a club band in which the vocalist did the same darn thing, if we came back for a 2nd or 3rd set: "Welcome back to the" (so and so)! When nobody had ever left. Well, *we* the band, might have gone out for a puff hence the singer's subjective welcoming. hehee.
Avatar 10:27pm
Scraps:

Also today Charles Aznavour died, at 94. Famous in France, called (for Americans) France’s Frank Sinatra.
Avatar 10:28pm
Scraps:

coelacanthø, you’re fine. ;-)
Avatar 10:29pm
northguineahills:

If I cancel my S4L and then reenroll, would that count to the 4K?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
coelacanth∅:

Scraps and Aznavour known by some (as myself) thanks to a reference in a psychedelic furs song.

...and Thanks.
Avatar 10:31pm
northguineahills:

It'll probably be the end of the month before I make a donation, as I just bought a new laptop (the 7-year-old one died last weekend), I need a new A/C for my car, and the missus lost her job 3 weeks ago. Fingers crossed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
coelacanth∅:

this horse n buggy show is a quilting party
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

I like this bed music. Friendly cowboy vibe.
Avatar 10:32pm

That was 5 years ago!!!!???!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
melinda:

@ngh 7 seems to be the magic number
Avatar 10:35pm
TDK60:

I'll donate soon.. / Think I missed the M.B.V. album from 2013. Unless I heard it here on FMU and my memory cauliflower upstairs is frazzled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
coelacanth∅:

TDK so the singer should've said "welcome us back to the..."!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Sam Segal:

@NGH: I think technically it would? But I can't say with any scientific certainty.
@Coel: I was blown away when I saw this came out in 2013 too. I thought it had to be 2015 or 2016...feels like no time at all...
Avatar 10:36pm
Scraps:

Stan here always says “the name of the song is entitled...” ;-)
Avatar 10:37pm
northguineahills:

I finally saw MBV live in 2014, man, was that amazing (I was expecting louder and longer noise breaks, but it was still blissed out).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Sam Segal:

@Melinda: The bed music on that last break was "Peace in the Valley" by Rev. Lonnie Farris.
Avatar 10:39pm
TDK60:

It's a unique M.B.V.-sound. Spacey enough for me to avoid using complex tools or machinery during the listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Sam Segal:

I have a feeling they might put another record out soon, but that could be wishful thinking.
Avatar 10:42pm
northguineahills:

Not familiar w/ Alameda 4, dig!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

They're from Krakow, and that's about all I know. Love the "Instant Classic" label though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Sam Segal:

Was amazed to learn this classic Tony Conrad recording features guitar work from John Corbett, David Grubbs, and Kevin Drumm, not to mention production by Jim O'Rourke and engineering by Steve Albini. Talk about '90s Chicago, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
coelacanth∅:

some serious shit. i know all those names but Kevin Drumm's the only one i've gotten deeply into.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Sam Segal:

RIP Tony Conrad, my goodness.
Avatar 11:04pm
northguineahills:

I have this Tony Conrad!
Avatar 11:06pm
northguineahills:

I saw Kevin Drumm play in Astoria on top of Styrofoam "icecave" installation w/ dry ice back in 2006, great show!
Avatar 11:07pm
northguineahills:

and I believe David Grubbs is still a prof at Brooklyn college.
Avatar 11:07pm
Scraps:

I think the only Conrad I own is the Faust collaboration
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
coelacanth∅:

i remember when Tony Conrad died and Fabio and Bryce and i don't remember who else played a lot of his music and i liked it and bookmarked it but it got buried in my mess that is my life.
now i will make an effort to more solidly familiarize myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Sam Segal:

Slapping Pythagoras is a great place to start, although you've just heard half of it.
Avatar 11:11pm
northguineahills:

(I have a shameful excess of Conrad recordings, commercially available and boots from friends). heck, I even have a Tony Conrad poster. And if you haven't seen his film, "Flicker", do so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Sam Segal:

@NGH: I think you're right about Grubbs. He has a new book out too. Long form prose poetry about an experimental music performance.
Avatar 11:16pm
northguineahills:

Gotta clean and get ready for bed, be back at the end!
Avatar 11:17pm
northguineahills:

Tony getting his 60s records was torture due La Monte being a dick. Glad they all made it out (also see John Cale's minimalist recordings of the era).
Avatar 11:20pm
Scraps:

Themes are overrated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Sam Segal:

Thank you for the words of encouragement, Scraps! I knew I've been avoiding them for a reason...
Avatar 11:23pm
Scraps:

;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
melinda:

70s game show theme! Just kidding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
coelacanth∅:

so it seems Both Fabio and Jesse Kaminski did Tony Conrad tributes.
duly bookmarked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Sam Segal:

@Melinda: You can here my Richard Dawson impression!
  11:36pm
melinda:

Haha
  11:53pm
Dean:

Hey, you played Delbecq's recent Driff disk, which arrived today at my address with two other new Driffs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
Sam Segal:

Dean! Driff rules! You're just in time for this serious downer of a record by Joe Talia. Brillaint stuff though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
Sam Segal:

Folks, I am going to go overtime a bit and let this tune finish. Should wrap up around 12:05 pm. Seems a shame to fade it down now that its really cooking.
  12:01am
Dean:

I recently purchased a ton of Driff music directly from Pandelis. Love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am
coelacanth∅:

so just another 12 hours and 5 minutes then...
Avatar 12:03am
Scraps:

Waaaahh.... is it still on??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am
coelacanth∅:

(you better tell Tony!)
Avatar 12:04am
Scraps:

It’s boring a hole from inside my skull, very, slowly...
  12:05am
Dean:

Didn't catch the opening, when you might have commented on the photo of the quilt, but wow, it's nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am
coelacanth∅:

Stellar program,Sam!
the quilt's not finished so we're going to have to do this again next week.

g.night y'all
