I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:00pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko and listeners
Avatar 12:02pm Mayuko:

Happy Equinox to you too fleep! Good afternoon, my radio family fred!!
Avatar 12:03pm fred:

"Tolouse Low Trax" is a pun worthy of Doug's channel
Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

I've been thinking they should be on the same bill with Maximum Ernst, Creamo Coyl's band.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Webhamster Henry:

Heh I thought that was "To Lose Low Tax"
Avatar 12:10pm Mayuko:

Ah! Thanks for tuning in Henry!
Avatar 12:11pm fred:

Mayuko, I saw that Sanbaso performance two days ago. I really liked the music, and even the "dance" part was nice, despite the old age of the performer (Mansaku Nomura). He might be 86, but I'm not sure I could move as well (he even jumped). He had trouble with one hand, but this wasn't an issue
  12:13pm P-90:

Happy Vertiquinox, Mayuko and friends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Dropof Goldensun:

Greetings Mayuko and listenerds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Dropof Goldensun:

Oops, make that listeners! Although I guess that could be a good thing! hahaha
Avatar 12:18pm fred:

Enjoying this MS Gentur track
Avatar 12:29pm Mayuko:

@fred woww! I'm jealous! Never seen that kind of performance live before. The tickets for those traditional performances in Japan were always damn too expensive for me.
I think it's often considered in Japan that it's only when you are super old in your 80's you reach the level of perfection as an artist, so it makes sense that he's doing great.
Avatar 12:30pm Mayuko:

Happy first day of the fall to you too, P-90!! And hallos Dropof! "listenerds" are better than just lisners!!!
  12:34pm rw:

Hello! Checking in before heading out. But I'll bring the FMU app along with me in the car! Thanks in advance Mayuko and have a good weekend everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Dropof Goldensun:

Listenerds it is then!
Avatar 12:35pm Mayuko:

@rw Thanks for listening! Drive safe and happy weekend to you too!!!
  12:37pm rw:

I'd definitely classify myself as a listenerd. I'm not proud of it but what can you do?
Thanks Mayuko! You too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Yay Vertigo!
Avatar 12:42pm Mayuko:

I actually think Listenerd is a compliment?! Bring it to the next level from 'listener'!
Avatar 12:42pm Mayuko:

Yay! Doug!!!!!!
Avatar 12:43pm fred:

Yay Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko I agree! It was definitely a happy accident!
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

This is a recording of Sea Organ which listenerd rbrt told me about here on comment board a couple months ago:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Dropof Goldensun:

Sea organ is wonderful! It sounds otherworldly. (If I may be so bold to think I know what otherworldly sounds like!)
12:47pm Jeff g., assembling Ikea thing:

  12:48pm rw:

OK I will wear it with honor. And I’m definitely not texting and driving right now.
Avatar 12:48pm fred:

@Jeff g: good luck, I hope you're better than I am at that Ikea game
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm tmoyo:

Hi Mayuko & all! Fell asleep with the lights on before the show... I wanted to say hi since I wont be able to come here for a couple of weeks because of work travel.

Love this sea organ track!!!
Avatar 12:53pm Mayuko:

@rw We'll send you your WFMU listenered number shortly.

Hallo Jeff! Happy assembling & thanks for tuning in!

Avatar 12:57pm Mayuko:

Thanks for stopping by tmoyo! I will actually be off the radio for the first 2 weeks in October - going to Japan for the first time since I left 8 years ago. Will bring stuff from there for the Singles Going Steady week!
Avatar 12:58pm Mayuko:

Hey Rickwaukee! I have to see it later but curious what that is...
  1:00pm Rickwaukee:

OK, Mayuko - just remember I posted it during the 8th selection of your show
1:10pm Jeff g., assembling Ikea thing:

Thanks, @fred. I'm pretty good at following directions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm tmoyo:

I hope you have a wonderful and worthwhile time in Japan!

Second week of October I will be back in Japan as well, so if you need a helping hand or something, pls feel free to send me a message.
Avatar 1:14pm Sem:

Late but ready to play vertigo.

Hello, Mayuko, and all.
Avatar 1:14pm Mayuko:

@tmoyo Will do! Though I won't be in Tokyo area much this time - spending large portion of the trip in Okinawa & Izumo.
Avatar 1:15pm Mayuko:

Hi Sem! Happy to have you here!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm ɨkɛ:

Sounding great! Oh wow, I definitely want to go to Japan someday but first I think I'll try some easier/cheaper places. Maybe Taiwan or Malaysia this fall. Airfare is actually cheaper to Asia than it was 10 years ago!
Avatar 1:22pm fred:

Hello radio brother Scraps!
Avatar 1:26pm Mayuko:

@Ike Really? Flight to Japan is still so expensive! Was aiming to go there in July but Oct turned out to be much more manageable... Would love to go to Southeast Asia too!
Avatar 1:26pm fred:

I missed the past 20 minutes or so because of a pollster call. I didn't hang up because it was about radio, and I enjoyed when the guy called his supervisor to ask how he should record WFMU (the answer: web radio, wmfu.org). My answers were either WFMU or No (to "did you listen to one of the following station"). Confusing a pollster is fun, but I'll have to hit the archives
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm melinda:

hi chums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Scraps:

h'lo fred!
Avatar 1:30pm fred:

@Mayuko: do you plan to go to Okinawa? I think you can get very cheap flights there when you book a ticket to Japan from the US
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm ɨkɛ:

(Although it's hard to avoid the shady Chinese airlines in the travel search engine results. I guess they're helping to drive the prices down overall, but I've heard bad things about them.)
Avatar 1:32pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, melinda!
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

@fred yup! I have a couple of record stores I wanna go there and hopefully be back with stuff to do singles going steady with!
  1:35pm rw:

Today’s show reminds me of a feeling I had often as a kid who spent a lot of time in the ocean at the beach. Coming home and sitting on the sofa but still feeling the push and pull of the waves.
Avatar 1:39pm fred:

I look forward to hearing that! I wish I could go there myself
But that's such poor timing on my side: I'll be seeing Uzbek singer Yulduz Turdieva next Saturday, but I hope I can catch the second half of your show. And that Sunday I'll see Ulzhan Baibussinova again; I love her voice (she's from Kazakhstan)
Avatar 1:39pm Mayuko:

@rw aw, you made my day with that comment. that's beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Webhamster Henry:

Merry Equinox! I did a show at the Vernal Equinox this year, you can check it out on the Errant Spaces podcast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm tmoyo:

Rei Harakami is so good.
Getting pulled back into dream territory again.
Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Webhamster Henry:

Inuit Games And Songs was one of the four CDs I bought the first time I bought CDs.
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

@fred That sounds great though!
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

Good night tmoyo, happy dreaming!
Avatar 1:48pm fred:

I love that record!
Avatar 1:48pm Mayuko:

@Henry where was Vernal Equinox?
Avatar 1:49pm Mayuko:

@fred such a beautiful record!
  1:49pm rw:

Ha! Well YOU’RE the one who came up with the theme and picked the music. Thank you for another beautiful show!!
Just got to work. Have a good weekend and a wonderful Fall everyone!
  1:52pm Joe:

Hey everyone! Looking forward to hearing those 45s from Okinawa, Mayuko! Btw I ended up rewatching the BAD music video after the last show for the first time since my youth. Amazing!
Avatar 1:53pm Mayuko:

@rw You too!!
Avatar 1:53pm fred:

@Mayuko: Have you seen the documentary made around that time? www.youtube.com...
Avatar 1:54pm Mayuko:

@Joe wish me luck that I'll find exciting stuff! And glad you rewatched & enjoyed that! It was kinda amazing wasn't it.
Avatar 1:54pm Mayuko:

@fred !!!!!!!!!!!! I'll watch it this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  1:57pm Joe:

@Mayuko It's funny, I noticed Roberta Flack is listed in the credits as playing one of the characters, but I can't seem to spot her anywhere in the film. Anyway, thanks for the great show!
Avatar 1:58pm fred:

There's a nice take of Self Portrait at the end, and that got me thinking andata (from async) shares a few things with that track
  1:58pm Joe:

@fred thanks for the link!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Dropof Goldensun:

Great show Mayuko, thanks! Have a great week everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats, barely time to check in with the Veritigo players.
Avatar 2:05pm Mayuko:

@Joe I don't even remember seeing any woman in that video?! Other than that voice of mom reading that letter? I heard that that was the first time Wesley Snipes was on screen. So I guess it's an important video on many levels!
Avatar 2:06pm Mayuko:

Hi Ken!
Avatar 2:06pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening - I'll see you next week!!!
Avatar 2:07pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko!
  2:07pm Joe:

@Mayuko She's credited as "Darryl's Mom," so it's gotta be her reading the letter!
Avatar 2:09pm Mayuko:

@Joe ah so that really was the only one woman in that entire video!
