Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, and same to you, @listener james! Good to see you here.
Avatar 9:45am Sem:

Good morning, Jeff. Hello, Listener James, Scraps.

Wonder if anyone has contemplated a show length tribute to The Fall?
Avatar 9:46am ken krimstein:

very pretty song...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Jeff Golick:

Hiya and good morning, @Sem.

Welcome, @ken krimstein! Agreed.
Avatar 9:48am ken krimstein:

followed by another sweet one -- kurt weill
  9:55am Doug Schulkind:

Hi Jeff! Hey there, Ken K! Ho there, people of the large ears!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am doctorjazz:

Hey, short stay this morning, my daughter had a gig this afternoon at a comedy club in Manhattan, heading in soon. Happy Fall, y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am doctorjazz:

Man , what a Trio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Jeff Golick:

Helloooooo, @Doug! @doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am doctorjazz:

I do miss P Park Slope...
Avatar 10:03am ken krimstein:

very hip version of the chant...kind of apropos for coltrane day too methinks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Jeff Golick:

Yup: Sam Rivers on this Bernstein cut.
  10:05am Doug Schulkind:

One of my favorite favorites, this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Jeff Golick:

Yay, @Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am doctorjazz:

The Bernstein Tzadik albums are great!
Omg! Ashamnu! I'm hitting my chest
Avatar 10:09am duke:

Hi Jeff and non-Jeffs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Jeff Golick:

Ribot on guitar for Shapiro.

Heya, @duke! C'mon in; saved you a seat.
Avatar 10:15am Peter from DE:

Hello all -- been too long since I've been able to tune in on a Sunday -- missed you all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jeff Golick:

@Peter from DE! How goes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am doctorjazz:

Ordered the Shapiro, kvelling with the Rivers of Babylon.
Avatar 10:22am Peter from DE:

The Clarendonians are new to me... that was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Jeff Golick:

Love that one, @Peter. First heard via The Trojan Story box.
Avatar 10:25am Peter from DE:

What's that Jeopardy category, "Before and After" is it? Sam Rivers of Babylon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Jeff Golick:

Ha. Yeah. There's also a British puzzle that combines clues/answers like that. The New Yorker used to carry it...?
Avatar 10:30am Peter from DE:

Digging this too. A funny thought: I don't think I've ever heard a bass clarinetist that I haven't liked. Why is that? Is it because it brings up the ghost of Dolphy? Or is it because of the "price of entry" -- that onliy the most committed reed players will invest in a bass clarinet. (That reminds me of a story about Daivd Murray...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Jeff Golick:

Huh. I too usually love the bass clarinet I hear, but I've put it down simply to the sound. You might have a point re "price of entry," though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Jeff Golick:

Lotta clarinet in this set, I'm realizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am doctorjazz:

Goes with the territory
Avatar 10:38am Peter from DE:

Clarient is a very Jewish instrument. I was once talking about different versions of the Mozart clarinet concerto and I said my favorite was David Shifrin, and the other guy said "that's a good version, it's very klezmer-y" I didn't know him well enough to know if he was joking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Jeff Golick:

Avatar 10:42am coelacanth∅:

g'morning Jeff & all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Jeff Golick:

...and it sure is news that @coelacanth∅ and @Stanley are here!
Avatar 10:52am glenn:

no joking about klezmer. very serious shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Jeff Golick:

Oh, @glenn. @glenn!
Avatar 10:53am Peter from DE:

@glenn Truth
Avatar 10:54am glenn:

on a somewhat tenously related vein, why isn't there singalong fiddler on the roof? that would be the cat's ass.
  10:56am rw:

Good morning! I guess I missed some bass clarinet. But I've been craving a little reggae for some reason and here it is!
  10:59am Dean:

As opposed to, say, saying things out loud to a police officer.
Avatar 11:00am Sem:

@glenn: led the way, I'll follow.
  11:03am Dean:

Do you know Osvald Golijov's Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind? Features David Krakauer and the Kronos Quartet. Haven't listened to it in ages, but I recall it that it makes a lot of noise.
Avatar 11:05am glenn:

that would require initiative on my part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Jeff Golick:

@rw! @Dean! Hi there, ho there.
Avatar 11:10am ken krimstein:

coltrane never blew a bad note. never. not once. ever. i'm just sayin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Stanley:

Hi Jeff. I've got a Colin Stetson gig next weekend, billed as Stetson-Fox-Dunn. Have you come accross this trio?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Jeff Golick:

@Stanley: I have not. It isn't Trevor Dunn, I'm guessing...?
Avatar 11:18am glenn:

maybe nora dunn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Stanley:

Yes, it is Trevor Dunn and Greg Fox. We're promised a multi-layered wall of sound that is both brutalist and beautiful.
I'm looking forward to it.
  11:23am rw:

There's that bass clarinet! Thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that should be rock solid. What kind of venue?
Avatar 11:24am glenn:

oh, and apropos of nothing, tanya tagaq has a book out. it's called split tooth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Jeff Golick:

Huh. Wow, that looks cool, @glenn. Thanks for the tip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Stanley:

@Jeff: it's in the former dissection room of a former medical college in Edinburgh, now an arts and culture 'village'. Sounds a bit creepy but it's quite a good space, complete with 360 degs upstairs balcony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeff Golick:

That sounds amazing!
  11:40am Dean:

Crispell, Eskelin, and Hemingway all appear on the playlist today. They comprised my afternoon listening yesterday, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Jeff Golick:

This Jarman would be a tough blindfold test, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Jeff Golick:

Something in the air, @Dean.
  11:44am Dean:

Ah, and I see Noël Akchoté up there. Just learned Friday that he did a guitar rendition of Morton Feldman's Triadic Memories!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Jeff Golick:

There's little he didn't do, seemingly.
  11:49am Dean:

Listened to Billy Bang Friday evening. Vietnam: Reflections.
  11:51am Dean:

Don't tell me you're going to play something from The Dead's '77 Cornell show today. Played that Friday evening, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Jeff Golick:

Gonna have to wait until Avant Ghetto for that one, @Dean.
Avatar 11:56am coelacanth∅:

rest in peace John Coltrane
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Stanley:

Great stuff, as usual, Jeff.
Thanks once again.
Avatar 11:57am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jeff

tchau camaradas
Avatar 11:58am glenn:

bella ciao.
  11:58am rw:

Oh, man. Again the end too soon. Thank you JG and take care all!
Avatar 11:59am Sem:

I echo the above. Thank you, Jeff. Been a treasure chest of wonderful sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Jeff!! Coltrane and the new year are always worth celebrating!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks so so much for being here, and the kind words, @Stanley, @coel, @glenn, @rw, @Sem, @ljfw!
