Hello, is there anybody out there?
Avatar 12:02pm Sem:

Hello, Julie. We're out here.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

Roger dodger! Sock it to Danny, Sandy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Julie:

hi there Sem! Hi James!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:03pm listener james from westwood:

Also, I saw that film when I was a wee lad of 8, and did not get that joke at all back then!
Avatar 12:04pm glenn:

i see dunkin' donuts is changing their name to just dunkin'. will dark night of the soul henceforth be known as dark?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Julie:

okay but I still want donuts
Avatar 12:06pm glenn:

double double dark.
Avatar 12:06pm Sem:

Is Dunkin' just punkin'?
Avatar 12:06pm glenn:

that might be a little too canadian a reference.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Julie:

punk donuts would be awesome
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Rich Dark Roast Coffee of the Soul
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Julie:

howdy Ken & Glenn!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Julie:

if I drank coffee that would sound really good !
Avatar 12:10pm glenn:

i've never seen grease. i don't feel too bad about it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Julie:

it's amazing when you're a theatre kid. as an adult I like xanadu better.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Julie:

when my high school did Grease they changed the end, Sandy proclaims she's not changing for anyone and you have to love her like she is. Pretty progressive for so long ago actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm coelacanth∅:

hey Julie and all
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Julie:

hiya coela! Long time!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

I like that improved ending a lot.
Avatar 12:17pm glenn:

what, she's not going to not be australian?
Avatar 12:18pm glenn:

i have no idea what she is or isn't.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Julie:

yeah that "be slutty for the guy you like" is a pretty crappy message for kids
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm coelacanth∅:

i know,Julie too long!
Avatar 12:21pm glenn:

ah.
Avatar 12:31pm Parq:

Joining the crowd here at Moderately Cloudy Lunchtime of the Soul.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:31pm listener james from westwood:

Sorry today is a bad pain day! However things go, we're here for it; hoping the meds help!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm coelacanth∅:

i'd like a percocet please
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Julie:

hey there Parq, good to see ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm coelacanth∅:

yes what james said
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Julie:

thank you! I rarely take them, I'm super cautious. I've got my medical marijuana card now but I can't really function at all when I use it!
Avatar 12:36pm glenn:

can you use c.b.d. oil? all the pain relief, none of the impairment.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:37pm listener james from westwood:

Lisa Germano!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Julie:

You know I tried that, and it didn't have much effect. I have 20:1 CBD:THC from the dispensary but it's not helpful. You have to have a certain amount of THC, have to experiment to find the no pain/can still function sweet spot :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Julie:

How fantastic is Lisa? I just love her so much.
  12:40pm frenchee:

hey Julie! What is wrong with a little "impairment?" Lisa is great, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm coelacanth∅:

i use 600-800 mg of ibuprofin/day and herb at night in such a tiny hit that i just get slightly foggy but not what most people would call "high".
  12:40pm frenchee:

Downpour of the Soul coming up!
Avatar 12:41pm glenn:

i work with power tools, and at heights. impairment is really, really bad.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Julie:

as long as I can still cue things up right and manage to drive home safely, I'm good!
  12:41pm frenchee:

@Glenn, that is a different matter for damn sure.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Julie:

a little bit of weed REALLY helps me sleep. After years of insomnia it's like magic now.
Avatar 12:43pm glenn:

i wish they could make weed odourless. as much as i support people smoking it, it fucking reeks.
  12:44pm frenchee:

It does. WE had Hungarian visitors last month and they asked, is marijuana legal here? We smell it everywhere!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Julie:

I'm using a vape pen i don't smell it so much that way.
Avatar 12:44pm glenn:

also, i'm a pretty fast stone. two puffs and i'm done.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Julie:

to be honest I'm not a fan of the smell of cigarette smoke either. Glenn, same here. Lightweight.
Avatar 12:45pm glenn:

welp, it'll be legal in canada in three weeks, so there's that.
Avatar 12:46pm glenn:

i mean, if the patriarchy isn't enough reason to move here...
Avatar 12:47pm glenn:

also, tim horton's is far superior to dunkin'.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

I hear it's very difficult to actually to immigrate to Canada. I know meghan toys with the idea all the time.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

it's been too long since I visited Canada. I really want to see Vancouver. Only ever done Montreal.
  12:49pm frenchee:

Loving the harp sounds. Reminds me a bit of Joanna Newsom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm coelacanth∅:

i'm a lightweight for sure (opposite of my alcohol tolerance) if i take too big of a hit i'll be awake for hours thinking too much.
Avatar 12:50pm glenn:

i haven't been to vancouver in thirty years, so i can't say for sure what it's like, other than insanely expensive to buy a house. there's definitely a huge opioid problem there.
  12:50pm frenchee:

@coelacanth∅ that is exactly why I switched from weed to firewater long ago #lessthinking
Avatar 12:50pm glenn:

montreal though, is absolutely one of the best places on earth.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Julie:

alcohol will make my heart race if I drink too close to bedtime. weed gives vivid dreams though!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Drove up to Winnipeg while on vacation last summer. It was pretty nice. Hit up a Tim Horton's on the way back, just before crossing back.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Julie:

I am not sure I could endure a Canadian winter though.
Avatar 12:53pm glenn:

after this summer, i'm almost looking forward to winter.
  12:54pm frenchee:

hey, subject shift: Is it Evan Dando who went loco on a rival band, or is it some other person like the Brian Wilson Experience guy? I feel like Pseu would know this.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm listener james from westwood:

Have never heard this version of the Björk smash!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Julie:

that's far beyond my realm of knowledge
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Julie:

it's amazing isn't it? Great version of great song
  12:58pm frenchee:

Sorry, I just saw Evan's mug on the FMU Monty Hall page and went a-wandering
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Julie:

haha don't be..all subjects are welcome, I just know nothing
Avatar 1:01pm Parq:

Glenn at 12:47, very little isn't far superior to Dunkin, IMO. And hya, Frencee.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Julie:

donuts often disappoint me. I kinda like Entemann's.
Avatar 1:04pm glenn:

hey, if you want to survive a canadian winter, you need lots of calories. doughnuts provide calories.
Avatar 1:05pm Parq:

Funny to read about Evan Dando after an extended discussion of the devil weed. I saw Dando open for Fountains of Wayne as part of their Welcome Interstate tour. He was really good, but I kept wondering if a roadie had to come up behind him occasionally and remind him which way the audience was.
  1:05pm frenchee:

I found the info: Dandy Warhols vs. Brian JONESTOWN MASSACRE. the BJM lead singer was the loco guy. I think I got sidetracked by Dando/Dandy. Hi Parq!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Donuts and pemmican, right?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Julie:

Pemmican?
Avatar 1:06pm Parq:

Julie, I'm not big on donuts either. As those who've met me know, there's not a lot of food I turn down, but I see donuts and feel no impulse to eat them at all.
  1:07pm frenchee:

I believe pemmican is related to hardtack? But then again I confused Evan Dando with the Dandy Warhols. Don't tell Pseu.
Avatar 1:08pm glenn:

pemmican is dried venison and berries, pounded into powder and mixed with fat. kinda like a meaty granola bar.
Avatar 1:09pm glenn:

or maybe sometimes bear meat.
Avatar 1:13pm Sem:

...or a Canada Goose, smoked over a fire for three days.
  1:14pm frenchee:

er, I am a femme frencheeeeeeeee
Avatar 1:14pm glenn:

grrrr. canada geese. cockroaches.
  1:14pm karen:

I'm here Julie! Loving the show :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Julie:

hi Karen! Thank you for saying hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm coelacanth:

frenchee alcohol is a socialising tool for me - though i do like the taste & the ritual of it. maybe once/week. herb makes me want to just go draw or paint, if i get stoned.
also alcohol makes my body hurt more (in general - the opposite while i'm drinking) whereas herb alleviates some of it.
Avatar 1:15pm Sem:

Overrun here w/ them in the past decade, glenn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm coelacanth∅:

(sorry i don't mean to be backtracking on comments but my craptop crashed before)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Julie:

I love all birds. But I know some can be pests.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm coelacanth∅:

there was (is?) a health food store product called "pemmican bar". definitely had no meat in it. (not much flavor either if i remember correctly)
Avatar 1:31pm Parq:

I've always dug the way this JA cover of Crosby reverses the gender dynamic of the story.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Julie:

gee I didn't even know this was a cover. I didn't think of it, but Olivia has a song about the same thing on her album Soul Kiss.
Avatar 1:35pm glenn:

no matter how hard crosby tries, stephen stills is still the biggest dewsh in the band.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Julie:

I have a vague memory of Stephen Stills and Susan Saint James dating... like maybe in the 80s.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm listener james from westwood:

Hail to the King!
Avatar 1:37pm Sem:

Oh, these times we live in.

www.whosdatedwho.com...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Julie:

speaking of Carole, I just have to say, Melissa Benoist (supergirl) killed it playing Carole in Beautiful
Avatar 1:39pm glenn:

how the fuck is stephen stills ranked #28 on the the rolling stone 100 best guitarists list?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Julie:

what? That's nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm coelacanth∅:

but you knew this was a cover!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Julie:

which, pleasant valley sunday? Carole wrote it, it's a demo not a cover.
Avatar 1:40pm glenn:

"Stills was ranked number 28 in Rolling Stone's 2003 list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"[5] and number 47 in the 2011 list."
okay, well not anymore, but jeeeez.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm coelacanth∅:

Stills is or at least was an excellent instrumentalist but not top 100 guitarist good, in my opinion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm coelacanth∅:

no Julie the cure!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Uncle Michael:

Hello.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Julie:

wait..did I play a Cure song?? Where?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Julie:

Hi there Uncle Michael!
Avatar 1:43pm glenn:

okay, i've just lost 12 minutes of my life reading about stephen stills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm coelacanth∅:

...and, whatever he's like personally, i love David Crosby's voice on triad and elsewhere.

...hi Uncle M
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Julie:

wasn't he the donor for Melissa etheridge & tammy's kids?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm coelacanth∅:

Julie "night like this" you really didn't know?
Avatar 1:46pm glenn:

yep. good ol' dave donating his precious bodily fluids for posterity.
  1:47pm frenchee:

or...for progeny. da-dum
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Julie:

ha! I didn't. My Cure knowledge is limited. I thought that was a Jennie Vee original.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Julie:

she did a great Bunnymen cover, Lips Like Sugar, that one I knew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm coelacanth∅:

i will increase my familiarity with Jennie Vee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm northguineahills:

Fairport!
Avatar 1:51pm glenn:

tam lin. damn straight.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:51pm listener james from westwood:

Hells yeah to "Tam Lin"!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Julie:

so much great Sandy but I always find myself reaching for this one
Avatar 1:52pm glenn:

now this is a guitarist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm coelacanth∅:

and now i unfortunately must get back to work.
Thanks Julie! don't be a stranger! and please feel better.
tchau camaradas
Avatar 1:54pm glenn:

plus the whole story of tam lin is just hella messed up.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Julie:

bye coela good to see you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm northguineahills:

Fairport cover a lot tre effed folk tales from the British Isles....
Avatar 1:58pm Parq:

Use "geometry" in a sentence.

Tam Lin looked around and said "Geometry!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Carmichael:

Whoa, Julie! Good to see and hear you again.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm listener james from westwood:

ONJ set? Oh yes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Julie:

hi Carmichael!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, her voice is such a jewel.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Julie:

it never fails to make me happy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm northguineahills:

Thanks Julie, off to lunch!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Julie:

bye north guinea good to see you!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Julie:

I love the darkness of this song
Avatar 2:27pm Sem:

hahaha.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Julie:

I didn't plan on making this a cover heavy set, but she did some cool ones and introduced me to so many of them!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:33pm listener james from westwood:

Many of these covers never got US pop-radio airplay in the day! So these are great to hear with the memories of the more-played hits in mind (thanks Juliana Hatfield for the recent reminders of same!).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Julie:

yep that's why I chose them. What is Life wasn't even on an American release.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Julie:

she did a couple Bread songs too but I didn't pick those for today.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Julie:

I'm also sparing you her version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina
Avatar 2:39pm glenn:

i'm petty sure bread will never be in my "you know, they aren't as bad as i thought" list.
Avatar 2:44pm Sem:

I was locked in a hockey arena with 6500 other people for 16 hours in the summer of '74, for something called "Rock on, 74." Couldn't get out and return, so had to endure Bread for what seemed like weeks before Dr. John arrived very very late, coked to the gills, and managed to get a simiarly invigorated Chuck Berry to jam w/ him on "Must of Been the Right Place." Oh, the irony.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Julie:

and they said Olivia sounded like white bread.
Avatar 2:51pm glenn:

but at least she's more or less listenable. bread just makes me want to open up my wrists.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Stanley:

My favourite ONJ! Thanks Julie
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Julie:

haha wow that's hardcore
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Julie:

you're welcome, Stanley !
Avatar 2:53pm Sem:

Granted re: ONJ.
Stanley, as we can all perceive, knows that comedy is all about timing.
Hello, old trout.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Julie:

never noticed how prominent Elton's voice is on this
Avatar 2:56pm glenn:

elton went record shopping at my fave t.o. record store a couple weeks ago.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Julie:

was he lowkey or all decked out?
Avatar 2:58pm glenn:

reasonably low key. www.blogto.com...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Julie:

awesome
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:59pm listener james from westwood:

I think glam duds just assemble themselves around Sir Elton by this point, like Iron Man's armor.
Avatar 3:00pm Sem:

Thanks for today's show, Julie. See you again sometime.
Avatar 3:00pm glenn:

byeeeee.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Julie:

thanks for listening guys! I do have one more after this, so we're gonna go a tad late.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm listener james from westwood:

Late works!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Julie:

not exactly a comprehensive tribute, you can tell I really favor the 70s!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Julie!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm listener james from westwood:
