  7:10pm JakeGhould:

Boo to you Dan!!! Boo to the rest of you all as well.
Avatar 7:11pm Dan Bodah:

Welcome Fryers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm dale:

the dudes in the background set up a harmonic resonance that makes me think autotune, but im sure it isn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm chresti:

Hi! Big boo to you, too Jake!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

What's better than a throat singer?

More throat singers!
  7:21pm JakeGhould:

@Ken: That was a horrible joke.
Avatar 7:22pm Dan Bodah:

Not a horrible joke -- it was deep though
Avatar 7:22pm βrian:

Love these Sardiniacs.
Avatar 7:25pm northguineahills:

I would loved to have Paolo Angeli's prepared Sardinian guitar.
Avatar 7:26pm Dan Bodah:

Oh -- what's that NGH?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm dale:

sometimes i listen to the arab emirates on shortwave to what sounds close to this type of singing. although i'm sure no women are allowed to sing there.
Avatar 7:28pm βrian:

Paolo: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 7:28pm Dan Bodah:

@dale, I am intrigued. I have heard some work music from the Emirates that sounds a little similar but I guess I need to do some research!
Avatar 7:30pm Bryce:

can't believe you're doing all cantu a tenòre! i love this stuff so, so much. the first time i heard tenores di bitti....
Avatar 7:31pm northguineahills:

@Dan: also this: www.paoloangeli.com...
Avatar 7:31pm Bryce:

  7:31pm JakeGhould:

@DanBodah: So you are into those deep throat jokes?
Avatar 7:34pm βrian:

I remember going to auctions along the MI/OH border. Old farmsteads being sold off in the 80s. Mesmerizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm dale:

all i could say is pick up a shortwave radio and listen in the late afternoon our time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Tommy in Neversink:

I grew up in NC and my extended family had a tobacco farm. I've been to a tobacco auction or two
Avatar 7:35pm βrian:

@dale: "our time?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Dave in Vermont:

I didn't realize Bryce existed outside of Fridays from Noon - 3.
  7:37pm johnk77:

carol and i were just camping
near lancaster, pa
amish and mennonite farmers
were cultivating tobacco old-style
plowing with teams of mules
do not know about their auctioneers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Dave in Vermont:

Two Grateful Dead touches in back to back shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm dale:

eastern standard. 5ish is usually when i could pick it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm dale:

i don't remember the frequencies. up around 9 or 10 khz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Richard S:

Sounds like someone should be shouting "Hey, Macarena"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm dale:

brian - u.t.c. always eludes me.
Avatar 7:40pm βrian:

@dale: Yeah, just pokin' ya.

I didn't realize shortwave was still a thing. Our local HAM enthusiast recently shut down and had his 60-ft antenna disassembled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm dale:

lot's of ham activity still. he must have just been over the whole scene. shortwave is way less interesting. no more bbc or deutsche welle....lot's of christian whackos and people trying to sell gold and prepper supplies.
Avatar 7:46pm Dan Bodah:

The band Kotiteollisuus has a great cover of this Motelli Skronkle tune with an extremely funny butt-oriented video: vimeo.com...
Avatar 7:48pm βrian:

Cuz butts is funny! (Or so says my worldly young nephew, who is forever suprising me.)
Avatar 7:48pm Dan Bodah:

It's true @Brian, they are HIGHlarious!
  7:49pm Bklyn Listener:

Thanks Dale.
Avatar 7:49pm Dan Bodah:

This singer, Okna Tsahan Zam, was "educated in Moscow as a nuclear engineer and worked at a nuclear power plant" then returned to his Kalmyk homeland and "became a performer of the national epic Jangar."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

One Steppe Beyond! !! !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Richard S:

Another fine show! Everyone send $$$$ to WFMU so there will be another show next week!
Avatar 7:57pm βrian:

I'm on Kitchen Detail tonight. (A polite variation on the actual household term.)

I'm working on a tomato bisque with caramelized onions and garlic, fresh thyme, basil, and rosemary. I've added some vocal fry for it's savory highlight notes.
  7:58pm JakeGhould:

Thanks Dan! And Faye’s t-shirt for this mini marathon is amazing!!!
Avatar 7:59pm βrian:

Thanks, Mr Bodah.
  7:59pm Drunken Creep:

excellent broadcast this evening, thank you DJ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm dale:

when can we come over brian?
  4:31am paolo:

Great choose Dan! Every small village in Barbagia (center of the Island) have a different tradition and way of singing. I digitalized Archivio Mario Cervo (6800 disc from 1922) next time I'll play in NYC we would meet and share nice talk about the complexity of Sardinian traditions music. Here a great Canto in Re: http://www.sardegnadigitallibrary.it/index.php?xsl=626&id=1216 best from Paolo
