I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Good Afternoon Mayuko! It's a crisp fall day!
Avatar 12:49pm Mayuko:

Hi Henry! It must be beautiful in upstate! I was in Westchester last night where the trees were turning colors beautifully, except it was pouring rain and dark and I could not see anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm melinda:

hi Mayuko and all
Avatar 12:54pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda! Thanks for tuning in!
  1:04pm Johnzon:

I got jumped recently... 1st time in about ten years but very similar circumstances. bunch of teenagers. I kinda saw it coming but I didn't want to judge them/be paranoid. Spent a week eating soft food as a result. Moral: be paranoid! trust your spidey sense and take appropriate evasive action! no need to hide in your apartment tho... "you can hold back from the suffering of the world... but perhaps that holding back is the one suffering you could have avoided"(something like that)... franz kafka

Excited to be listening live for the first time! Been a fan for years!
  1:08pm Johnzon:

great show Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Webhamster Henry:

Seances were the text messages of the dead in the 19th century.
  1:09pm JakeGould:

Hello Mayuko! Windy and sunny today in Bay Ridge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko, I really enjoy listening to your perspective on everything! Good stuff! You seem to always get me thinking.
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

I am so sorry to hear that Johnzon! Even when attack is verbal it's the experience of being targeted that's already traumatizing. Let alone a physical attack. We do have very good reasons to be afraid and paranoiac and it's a real challenge to stay open-minded. That is a great quote, so true.
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

Jesse! Another Drummer DJ who'd take your spiritual being to the next level!!
Avatar 1:24pm Mayuko:

Hi DL in LA! Happy to have you tune in live, & thank you for listening!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Webhamster Henry:

I like this Yrx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Webhamster Henry:

You have such open ears, Mayuko!
Avatar 1:29pm Mayuko:

@Henry Haha! That reminds me, in the JP 90's horror film Ring, the ghost come through VHS to haunt humans! She wouldn't be able to get to anyone these days, better be using texts or youtube.
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

Hey Jake! Thanks for tuning in! Glad that is't nice out around here!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Have there been anymore sightings of the Mandarin duck that was seen in Central Park recently? I hope it's alright.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm melinda:

Sorry to hear that Johnzon, that's awful.
Avatar 1:37pm Mayuko:

@Dropof thank you! I'm fortunate to have listenerds like you who understand my often incoherent mic breaks! I think I didn't hit the Louis Wain Cats level 4 today, so that's good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Dropof Goldensun:

Johnzon I agree with you completely. Sorry to hear about what happened. Scary stuff. I got robbed at knifepoint back in 87 and I'm still paranoid from the experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Dropof Goldensun:

Ha! I forgot about the Wain Cat's scale! I'm not sure whether I enjoy more, the tracks you play or your incoherent mic breaks! The verdict is still out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm melinda:

I like your mic breaks too.
  1:44pm Ike:

@Johnzon@1:04, I can relate — same thing happened to me about 5 years ago in NJ. Used to be a safe suburban neighborhood, until suddenly it wasn’t. I always watch my back now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Webhamster Henry:

"The snail hops through the grass"
  1:45pm Joe:

Very sorry to hear about your experience Johnzon. Getting mugged is so scary and traumatic that it's hard not to be defensive and paranoid long after it happens. Last time it happened to me it was right in front of my apartment at the time, and I didn't want to go out for months afterwards! It's a terrible thing for anyone to go through but it sounds like you are handling it with wisdom and grace... hope you get well soon.
Avatar 1:46pm Mayuko:

@melinda Thank you!!!!!!! I'm trying as much as I can!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Webhamster Henry:

Used to love that Life Magazine MIND book with the Wain cats and the stretched body based on the number of nerve endings and other goodies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

It appears Mandarin duck was spotted yesterday. twitter.com...
  1:49pm JakeGould:

@Johnzon: Sorry to hear. Where did this happen?
Avatar 1:49pm Mayuko:

@Ken Oh yeah! that duck is like a piece of handcraft work! so beautiful.
Avatar 1:49pm Mayuko:

@Ike 5 years is not so long ago!! I am so sorry! Was that in Jersey City???
  1:53pm JakeGould:

Good for duck!
  1:53pm Ike:

No that was in northern Newark near the light rail, actually a very pretty neighborhood near the tennis courts. Come to think of it, it was 2011, so 7 years ago.
  1:58pm Ike:

(But at least Mayor Cory Booker responded directly to me when I tweeted to him about it, LOL.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Feel better, Johnzon. Some punk kids harassed my pals and I as we were walking from the Javits Center to the train station in NYC some years ago. It's scary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the music, Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm coelacanth∅:

i (with someone else) was attacked by a group of 12-15 guys in the early 80s who all had skin that was not the complexion of my own. it never brought out any bigotry in me.
a friend back at the apartment this woman and i were walking back to, who was in collage -"liberal arts" "black history" etc. who was annoyingly pro-"black", -when we got back to , and i had blood pouring down my face from my scalp - he ran outside and started yelling words that i wont repeat here. fucking hypocrite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm melinda:

I've seen those frogs with eggs embedded in the back, it's gnarly! Skin-crawly stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Dropof Goldensun:

I just looked up the Pipa Pipa toad! Crazy looking!
Avatar 2:05pm Sem:

Thank you for today's show, Mayuko. See you and all next time, gods willing.
  2:05pm Joe:

I couldn't resist and also took a peep at the pipa pipa. Beautiful! Thanks for the music, Mayuko!
  2:05pm Ike:

(I shouldn’t imply that there was anything wrong w/Mayor Booker’s tweet BTW. Normally you wouldn’t hear from the mayor after getting mugged and beaten up a little so actually that was very cool of him.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks, Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Mayuko! take care
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Dropof Goldensun:

Thanks Mayuko! Have a great week everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm melinda:

@coel interesting, seems like some of the most self-consciously woke people (not a phrase in the 80s I don't think but same sentiment) are overcompensating for inner demons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm melinda:

thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm coelacanth∅:

right on, melinda. maybe this explains why i'm usually uneasy around people who are ALWAYS easy-going and smiling. i don't trust it.
  2:09pm Ike:

Great show!
Avatar 2:11pm DL in LA:

Thanks for another great show! As is often the case, you blew my socks off. I don't know where you find all this great stuff, but I'm so glad you do!
Avatar 2:14pm Mayuko:

@coelacanth∅ There are indeed 'liberal' people who don't seem to know things are always easy until YOU have to deal with it! Sorry all that happened to you!!
Avatar 2:15pm Mayuko:

@DL in LA Thank you for your kind words! I hope we'll have you here with us again sometime soon!
Avatar 2:15pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening! See you all next week!!!
Avatar 8:01am fred:

Kink Gong was way better than I expected. Still laptop based, but he put the samples to good use. The bad news is he told me he's "done with Asia", so there no forthcoming field recordings. His ex-wife still works the field though, but the songs are dying off along with the singers
Avatar 2:09pm Mayuko:

@fred That's cool that the show was great, but that's too bad to hear that the songs are already almost all going away. I guess Asian people want to enjoy modern/globalized aesthetic too which probably are not what he wants to use. I want to learn how the traditions are evolving in Asia though, just like I got to briefly experience how the local folk scene in Okinawa is thriving while their traditional rituals are dying. It's an interesting topic for sure.
