Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Aaron Working In Newark:

Just scored some LSD capsules, they are the BOMB!
Avatar 9:03am Linda Lee:

just keep it away from the heroin, Aaron. it might detonate.
good morning Scott!
  9:05am al (the shire):

any other Glasgow listeners old enough to remember when the 13th Note sounded like this at two in the afternoon? noice choons
  9:06am Chi Bill:

LSD was the bomb for me but at 60 'shrooms are my fav. Like this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Aaron Working In Newark:

Shroom capsules are the bomb. I actually do grind mine up and put them in caps. :)
Avatar 9:07am Wild Neil||Peace All:

I lost a decade due to weed. Bong hits for breakfast, and whiskey at 10am.
"Drugs are a counterfeit Holy Ghost experience"
-Pastor Mark Gentry, Alamogordo NM, circa 1996 AD.
Hey, I think drugs should be legalized so the Mafia doesn't make so much money. It worked for Portugal. I think used in moderation they are probably ok. OK, I will get off my drug soapbox now. @Aaron, go to an art museum straight, then high, let us know what you think. Or an Art Gallery if you have one near you. Nature is pretty amazing too, but mainly in the summer when its warm and the birds are singing.
  9:07am Dropof Goldensun:

Hey there Scott!
Avatar 9:08am Linda Lee:

i'm utilizing amanita extract to help me manage lyme disease. non hallucinogenic.
Avatar 9:10am Linda Lee:

some of us are destined for that path, for unique reasons. prohibition has no intrinsic logic, though. not when so many extremely dangerous substances are freely available.
  9:10am Chi Bill:

Good idea Aaron!!! Good Idea Wild Neil!!! Hi Linda Lee, now I have to google amanita. Hi Scott, jolly good show start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Andrew Waterloo:

good morning
Avatar 9:12am Linda Lee:

the drug war is now 115 years old, dating from the Harrison Act of 1914. that's the prohibition model. i'd say that's enough. of course, now the drug war is a matter of geopolitics & not drugs, so it will not end.
Avatar 9:13am Linda Lee:

amanita muscaria. mushroom used for many purposes for a long time. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Scott McDowell:

Good morning everyone! Stepped on that opener, not clean. Mark that in your box scores!
Avatar 9:13am Chris from DC:

Awesome, Pelt, thanks for this.
Avatar 9:13am Linda Lee:

that still left us plenty, Scott. all good. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Aaron Working In Newark:

I am loving this..
Avatar 9:16am northguineahills:

Never had an inkling to go to Catawba, SC (had a friend who went to college there).
Avatar 9:20am northguineahills:

@WN: I've had the same 1/4 oz. for 15 mos. I partake, but only on special occasions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am melinda:

hi all!
@LL does the amanita help? I thought it was poisonous.
9:22am Colin & Dani in Durham, uk:

Canny noise, this
Avatar 9:22am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@NGH-now that I have not used weed since 1995, I wonder what it would be like using the newest grade of ultra potent weed and ATE it rather than SMOKED it. I ate some weed once in 1984 or so and it was like a huge endorphin filled rush.
@Melinda-it is also known as Fly Agaric. I think its produced in "reindeer juice" (pee). Santa Clause is red for this reason also probably.
Avatar 9:24am Linda Lee:

hi melinda! i feel the amanita is helping. it's a good general tonic. the mushroom isn't poisonous. it has a long history of use in medicine.
Avatar 9:25am Diezel Tea:

Hi Scott. I don't wanna leave my desk for a smoke because of this Pelt track.
  9:25am Chi Bill:

Interesting, WikidPeedia says amanita muscaria is poisonous but can be reduced by parboil but that is a hallucenator, so much to explore (and learn to spell). This sitar is altereing my mind
Avatar 9:26am Linda Lee:

noooo, Wild Neil, it's not produced in reindeear pee! :-D we have it all over the northeast. i have it here on the lawn in the catskills. i don't harvest it, though. too near the road. my extract comes from Maine.
Avatar 9:26am Linda Lee:

don't forget that wiki doesn't always have the best info. there's a lot of crap there.
Avatar 9:27am Linda Lee:

rodents & other critters eat tiny bits of the amanita all the time. i don't guess they would do that if it killed them. :-D
Avatar 9:28am Diezel Tea:

Damn, I just checked the comments and y'all are a bunch of degenerates with your drugs and satan worshipping and men kissing men and wearing hats indoors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am melinda:

@WN I remember a comment board discussion a while back regarding hallucinogenic reindeer pee but I don't recall what variety they ate.
Avatar 9:29am Diezel Tea:

Alright friends, I gotta run home to care for the pets. See everyone or at least hear the show again next time. Muah.
Avatar 9:29am Linda Lee:

proud degenerate right here, Diezel Tea. would have it no different. you know the Bukowski quote, yes? 'some people never go crazy. what truly horrible lives they must lead.'
Avatar 9:30am Chris from DC:

Right into my favorite solo piece of his, nice.
Avatar 9:30am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Melinda-there was a show on Amazon Prime called Fortitude which was on Svalbard Island, most northern town in the world.
  9:30am Chi Bill:

DANG, busted! I'm wearing a hat right now AND am caffeinated to the max, dude.
Avatar 9:31am Linda Lee:

what an excellent first set! yay! :-)
  9:31am Frankem:

This all sounds familiar. I was prescribed "poison mushroom" decades ago for cluster headaches. They stopped each episode. Fortunately those episodes are history now.
  9:31am Chi Bill:

Y'all are too much fun! Must make like working now. Muah!
Avatar 9:31am Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Melinda-on THAT show some of the characters drank the muscimol in reindeer pee.
Avatar 9:33am Linda Lee:

@Frankem ~ that's great news! franly there's a hell of a lot of propaganda shat about as 'information' against botanical medicine, only because it generally can't be patented & Big Pharma has a direct line into public discourse.
Avatar 9:36am Linda Lee:

a substance may be in continuous use for thousands of years, but if it hasn't been clinically tested by the 'right' labs domestically, it might kill ya! :-D
Avatar 9:38am northguineahills:

@WN: I.dove to visit Longyearbyren!
Avatar 9:39am northguineahills:

weird auto correct, I'd love to visit....
Avatar 9:40am Sem:

Good morning, Scott, and hello, all. Settling in for a good long listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am melinda:

Free the botanicals
Avatar 9:44am Linda Lee:

yes, melinda!! :-)
actually, they are free ~ but we are not.
Avatar 9:45am Linda Lee:

need to work on that :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Granny Spicy Tuna:

i am digging Jack Rose and i am digging the conversation here, especially @Linda Lee's wise comments. Good morning, all!
  9:47am Chi Bill:

uh, but, we're... Cage-Free! Yeah that's it.
Avatar 9:48am Wild Neil||Peace All:

I used to be free range, but now i am married.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Granny Spicy Tuna:

Back in my freelance go-go dancing days i was known as The Exploding Chicken and i DID dance in a cage.
Avatar 9:48am Linda Lee:

hi, Granny!
gosh, was Ry Cooder listening to Jack Rose when he played for the 'Performance' sound track? this is almost identical to the main theme!
Avatar 9:48am Chris from DC:

I'm just going to clicky the episode now.
Avatar 9:48am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Jack Rose is amazing! This sounds like some of the stuff on the Deadwood soundtrack.
Avatar 9:49am Linda Lee:

.. or was Ry Cooder first?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Granny Spicy Tuna:

@Chris from DC, i'm right behind ya there! Hi, Linda Lee!
Avatar 9:50am Linda Lee:

now hear this: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 9:50am βrian:

Now, this is a nice way to drop in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am melinda:

@LL I was thinking of Ry cooder too
Avatar 9:52am northguineahills:

I saw Jack Rose once at Union Pool, and then afterwards, while packing up, he downed a fifth of whisky like I would a beer on a hot day, all at once. My friend said, he's not going to last long. A year later, he was correct. But damn, could he play that guitar! RIP*respect.
Avatar 9:53am Linda Lee:

now i'm curious about who came first. i think it might've been Cooder. but of course the guitar style is much older ..
Avatar 9:53am Chris from DC:

I feel really lucky to have seen him (and Pelt) many times.
Avatar 9:53am Linda Lee:

unnamed progenitors.
got to play Cooder now, Scott! :-D
Avatar 9:55am SueAdynamo:

i think i have a corey harris version of this song.
Avatar 9:55am Linda Lee:

now i get it. Jack Rose is current. the later artist.
  9:57am Noodle:

This is great stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Granny Spicy Tuna:

This is it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am melinda:

Great stuff indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Ike:

@NGH, wow.
Avatar 10:01am Wild Neil||Peace All:

I got a Ry Cooder album I did NOT like from the library (recent, it had a song about bankers). What is the BEST Ry Cooder Album?I heard he was on Captain Beefheart's safe as milk, or at Woodstock anyway, but he quit immediately when a very stoned Beefheart fell off the stage. Thoughts?
Avatar 10:02am SSS:

@Granny Spicy Tuna - Your Avatar makes my neck hurt - not that there is anything wrong with that.
Avatar 10:02am Chris from DC:

Eclipse was awesome. I miss that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Granny Spicy Tuna:

@SSS: my apologies, it does that to me, too. We can rest easy knowing that Ann-Margret managed to survive that film shoot with only a flesh wound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am MD:

Good Morning gang...Happy Dead Presidents day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am MD:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Granny Spicy Tuna:

Slack on, @MD!
Avatar 10:14am βrian:

Wearing hats indoors? That's way beyond the pale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am jmr3:

@Wild Neil - that Beefheart story appears to be true, according to Drumbo John French, but don't assume you'l like Ry Cooder based on him being on that record any more than you should assume you'd like David Gates and Bread just because Gates played/produced on the first few Beefheart singles . That said, you may well like Cooder and/or Gates for completely different reasons. I'm no expert on either one - both seem boring for different reasons.
  10:16am David in London:

@ northguineahills - that's a great story, but sadly not a medically-unexpected one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am MD:

Avatar 10:20am Rev. Turnip Druid:

It would appear I've missed many Roses. And psychotropics. Will strive to catch up. But first, a very lysergic punch... innaface!
Avatar 10:21am Wild Neil||Peace All:

Not that I am good like Jack Rose, but when I played classical guitar and would just jam, it was in this style of droning sort of thing.
Avatar 10:22am βrian:

I don't suppose he was drinking Four Roses ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am BLCKDGRD:

Thanks for the Rose! just saw it's been nine years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Granny Spicy Tuna:

Thanks, Scott, that was life changing
Avatar 10:27am βrian:

One just has to be careful not to do tribute shows before the artist has passed. That can be deadly.
  10:28am dddjjjbbb:

Does anyone know the track playing in the background by chance?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Jay Goges:

Scott I just wanted to take a moment and say how much i love your show :-) loving today's running themes and jams... you're alright sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Ken From Hyde Park:

This here one reminds me of "Mind Train."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Scott McDowell:

The Jahlights - Right Road to Dubland

@jay thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10:36am dddjjjbbb:

Awesome! Thanks Scott. Really great show :)
Avatar 10:37am ben abs:

This is a jam, going to be Such a great show at Monty Hall, wish I could be there.
Avatar 10:41am northguineahills:

Luke! (Wooden Wand) Nice lad, fun guy to hang out w/.....
Avatar 10:41am Inner Ear Detour:

Great Jack Rose tribute, Scott, as always. He's dearly missed, esp. by those of us down in Philly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Scott McDowell:

Thanks, david!
  10:49am William Main:

Thanks for playing Grachan Moncur III (although I missed it) and current Tony Williams Lifetime (have'nt heard it in years).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Michele:

I love this track. Hi Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Scott McDowell:

  10:55am fletchernyc:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am tim from champaign:

Really digging this Dire Wolves.
  11:00am jth:

Loved the Jack Rose tribute. I'm not familiar with the artist, but I'm definitely going to do my research now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am tim from champaign:

Geeze Scott, you sure are asking a lot for us to humor you with some late 60s Miles Davis!
  11:05am Tom from Maplewood:

This is from December 1965 at the plugged nickel in Chicago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Scott McDowell:

HAHA yeah @tim well I just lost some folks surely : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Granny Spicy Tuna:

Or sticking like flies to a bugstrip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Booz:

Dunno, the Miles doesn't seem like such a big ask so far.
Avatar 11:16am Listening Out There:

Let's recognize that Wayne Shorter (sax in the Miles tune) just got a Kennedy Center award...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Scott McDowell:

yeah ok on second thought maybe I undersold the 16min miles bomb just thrown into the middle of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am jinjabredboy:

well - speaking as a walking late 60's Miles Davis reference - i heartily apporve
Avatar 11:21am βrian:

Gotta go join the meeting puppets. Thanks, Scott.
Avatar 11:26am northguineahills:

Cameron/Ewan, new to me, and digdug!
Avatar 11:37am Chris from DC:

Just saw Sandy Ewan down here this week, cool set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am coelacanth∅:

Avatar 11:55am northguineahills:
