allow me to highlight some important new york vocabulary words.
first word: Zzzzzzero hour. Zzzzzzero hour is pretty much 24/7, depending who you are...or at least within a new york minute...which is minute.

- hi Bill and relative Zzzzzzeros

what time in 1971?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm

Laverbread?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
coelacanth∅:

chresti it's the amount of time a new yorker gives you if you say you need a minute - which is about zzzzzzero seconds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
chresti:

Ah! I've always had this impression that everything is faster in New York
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm

I think for the most part our shirts make the man, or woman. They're not properly dressed unless they're wearing the WFMU brand..... how's that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

Ixna sounded Amazonian esp. with the vocal and percussion sounds

That cat is a winner all around

Irwin may annoy us from time to time, but damn, he does brilliant work and archiving treasures
Avatar 9:08pm
Bill Mac:

No doubt...... really autotune?!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
chresti:

I don't know Irwin.
  9:09pm
Dean:

Everybody should get to know Irwin. Fans of Sun Ra, for instance. Fans of adverbs, not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm
coelacanth∅:

i did have to turn that off, but i also had to look to see if it was Danny Kaye's album "mommy, gimme a drink of water" that i was tortured with as an infant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm
chresti:

ew ( autotunes )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
chresti:

Sun Ra, I'm in
Avatar 9:11pm
Bill Mac:

Hi Dean, I agree... he's majorly responsible for the slanted ethos of what this place is about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
coelacanth∅:

Great Scott!
  9:12pm
Dean:

Most definitely, absolutely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
chresti:

Sounds very very interesting
  9:14pm
Dean:

Here's a cross-section of Irwin: http://irwin.wfmu.org/projects/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
chresti:

He's a mover and a shaker?
  9:19pm
Dean:

And a drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
coelacanth∅:

he's about a mover, and definitely a shaker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
coelacanth∅:

...a drummer that knows that Buddy Miles is terrible - which many people seem to not realise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
chresti:

an arbiter? Oh, a drummer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
coelacanth∅:

possibly the first, but one of the first cassettes i ever recorded off wfmu is Irwin almost 40 years ago playing fast punkrock, which people don't associate with him much now.
  9:26pm
rw:

Buddy Miles is terrible? I've never really paid attention. My friend Michael's getting the Gary Panter shirt for Xmas. Please don't let the cat out of the bag.
Avatar 9:26pm
Bill Mac:

In the vault....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
coelacanth∅:

rw, those are not his words. i was considerably more specific than that, and Irwin agreed.
  9:29pm
Dean:

Irwin plays lots of daring stuff, but also lots of stuff I'd characterize as MOR, e.g., today's spin of Gene Harris (admittedly, one of Harris' earlier Concord records, a bit more punchy than the later stuff). He seems on the one hand to be quite particular and discerning, on the other a bit reactionary. Hard to figure him out. But I'm not much into figuring out people. I just know I learn a ton from him.
  9:29pm
Dean:

Also, being discerning and reactionary are not mutually exclusive characteristics.
Avatar 9:30pm
Bill Mac:

I'd say it's his fault that the Jerry Solomon recrod is here...
  9:31pm
Dean:

"his fault": a backhanded accusation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
coelacanth∅:

grrrr!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm
northguineahills:

autotune usually only works for me if it's Maghrebi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm
coelacanth∅:

...and this particular bed music was used by either Irwin or Ken (i think Ken) going back to the 80s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
chresti:

OK I'm getting a clear picture now. I learned about Billy Cobham from a drummer friend who was briefly a DJ in the 70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
chresti:

yay rude bwoy!
  9:34pm
Dean:

Cobham is certainly a source of disagreement, too. I don't know enough to know better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
coelacanth∅:

i have to listen to that swamp dog track again. i was torn about it while it was on. i like other swamp dog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
chresti:

Walker went nuts?
I only know his Mahavishnu, Cobham
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
Franco Twinkie:

Look, everybody had an allergic reaction to Jerry Solomon, not Erwin. There's ways to be creepy and interesting, otherwise you're just creepy....and kind of stupid as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
chresti:

He's fast, that's what my friend was taken with
  9:38pm
Dean:

Everybody? I entirely enjoyed the Solomon. To my mind, there are no (aesthetic) limits to creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
coelacanth∅:

("total destruction to your mind" comes to mind)

creepy never crossed my mind. i was intolerably annoyed and walked across the kitchen just to turn it off. it was threatening my mood! aside from the main line i didn't hear what he was saying. not worth it.
  9:42pm
Funky16corners:

I’ll be following Bill at 10PM with much Bo Diddley on Testify! wfmu.org/playlists/shows/82840
  9:43pm
Dean:

Sometimes I listen to music I ordinarily like--Bruckner comes to mind--and at that moment it disturbs me for one reason or another, and I turn it off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
coelacanth∅:

...actually if i'd heard how creepy it is i might've liked it much more!
Avatar 9:46pm
Bill Mac:

Cretainly wasn't the most stellar offering of the evening, but that's the point I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
coelacanth∅:

my tolerance to "weird" music is certainly as high as any human's; but like every conscious person there are certain things i don't like. some things the majority of weird-music-liking people like. and yes it depends where i'm at sometimes.
maybe i didn't get something because i was in the cooking food zone.
  9:55pm
Funky16corners:

This is cool. There’s a Leon Russell side project called the Spotlights that did a 45 called ‘Dayflower’ which was a mashup of Wildwood Flower and Day Tripper. Similar vibe

Okay, in all fairness. it was his tone more that the content that bugged me. kind of Look At My Boogers.
  9:58pm
rw:

I know that sound. Thanks for the latest chapter Mr. Mac! See you Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
coelacanth∅:

i just backed-up and listened to maybe 30 seconds of that track and it's not creepy to me. it's just annoying! he's trying hard to be weird and his singing is abominable!
