Mr Fab:

*brrrr* Did it just get COOL in here?
  4:05pm
Martinibomb:

I had to get my over coat on
Avatar 4:08pm
Mr Fab:

sounds like Barry White goofed up on too much cough syrup
  4:10pm
Martinibomb:

I think playing this song slower is the funniest thing. It's been cracking me up for years.. yeah exactly Barry White never really put my finger on it
Avatar 4:10pm
Mr Fab:

well I'm laffin!
  4:11pm
Martinibomb:

the music itself even sounds not half bad at this speed
Avatar 4:11pm
Mr Fab:

makes it more funky too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Rich in Washington:

Hello, Martinibomb! Hello Mr. Fab!
  4:15pm
Martinibomb:

I'm gonna miss Mell Brooks when he's gone. He's getting pretty old. Hey Rich!
Avatar 4:16pm
Mr Fab:

What up, Rich!
I knew Mel Brook's "Hitler Rap" but not this one. Mel Brooks actually made more than one rap record?!
  4:17pm
Martinibomb:

That's funny I haven't heard Hitler Rap -- so I guess he did!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh man. Dr. Demento memories galore.
Avatar 4:20pm
Mr Fab:

a fave of Li'l Fab. Started indoctrinating here at an early page.
  4:20pm
Martinibomb:

yes, I'd only heard Dr. Demento twice when I was a kid coming in from Ashland via AM radio waves and this is one of the songs I remember hearing
  4:21pm
Martinibomb:

Bill Paxton was in the music video for Fish Heads so that's why I played Martini Ranch next .. plus this song is awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Rich in Washington:

His show had a 'top ten' type format, so you would hear the same songs week after week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Rich in Washington:

Martini Ranch also had Devo members aiding and abetting them, which you can really hear on this track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Rich in Washington:

I have a possible 'in' to interview him next week. I'm kind of terrified. I might chicken out.
Avatar 4:23pm
Mr Fab:

Started indoctrinating HER at an early AGE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Rich in Washington:

Dr. Demento, not Bill Paxton. My Ouji board's in the shop.
  4:24pm
Martinibomb:

yeah it was Mark and Bob2 that produced that song
  4:25pm
Martinibomb:

@Fab i put fish heads on mix tape for my 6 year old niece
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Rich in Washington:

I think Devo members also guest on a Jermaine Jackson LP in around '82 or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Rich in Washington:

And of course Toni Basil's Word of Mouth LP. She and Jerry C. were an item then, I think.
  4:26pm
Martinibomb:

Oh yeah I have that 12" jeez what's the name.. uh .. let me tickle your fancy
Avatar 4:29pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, I liked that collage-y goodness there.
  4:31pm
Martinibomb:

thanks! this whole mix is a little like that. I got into playing with the audio as I was DJn using some new tools to remix it live??
  4:33pm
Martinibomb:

I try to not make it super annoying tho
Avatar 4:38pm
Mr Fab:

This is a groooove!
  4:41pm
Martinibomb:

Grease is a guilty pleasure for me.
Avatar 4:43pm
Mr Fab:

I like this Frankie Valli. His high pitched scree that practically only dogs can hear that he used in the Four Seasons makes me cringe.
  4:44pm
Martinibomb:

I must feel the same cause I don't listen to any of that but man I love that Grease track
Avatar 4:49pm
Mr Fab:

Wow, Etta james covered Sonny n Cher?! SO much better than the original.
  4:51pm
Martinibomb:

She kills everything she touches - soooo good
Avatar 4:57pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Funny how I associate this VU loop with Girl talk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Rich in Washington:

Girl Talk stole all the low-hanging riffs.
  4:58pm
Martinibomb:

I was always impressed that he did all that stuff with Audiomulch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
Rich in Washington:

His crowning accomplishment was that he kept the Illegal Arts label afloat for many years.
  5:01pm
Martinibomb:

@Rich yeah I always thought he was kinda crass with his sampling.
Avatar 5:06pm
Mr Fab:

I used to call him the Tone Loc of mashups. Mediocre, but for a very brief period hugely popular with a public ignorant of the real stuff.
  5:07pm
Martinibomb:

People love familiarity and he took full advantage
Avatar 5:10pm
Mr Fab:

Oh man, that was funny! real tv variety show stuff
  5:13pm
Martinibomb:

That Nashville Rhythm thing yeah totally! Super silly - grand ole oppery style
Avatar 5:19pm
Mr Fab:

Sarah Vaughn in a dubwise stylee? Nice...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
Rich in Washington:

He's actually quite talented at it, but it's kind of easy to make crowd pleasing, booty-shaking music out of the best bits of crowd pleasing booty-shaking music. He's sort of the Led Zeppelin of appropriation music. He doesn't reframe anything or contextualize anything. It's rarely humorous or ironic. TradeMark G more accurately classifies him as a 'remixer'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
Rich in Washington:

REcontextualize, I meant.
  5:25pm
Martinibomb:

It's boring to listen to for me
  5:26pm
Martinibomb:

I always thought of him as an ADHD DJ
Avatar 5:28pm
Mr Fab:

I loved "Life on Mars" (orig UK version). I should really check out "The Sweeney."
  5:30pm
Martinibomb:

Oh yeah! Big fan of that original series of Life on mars. Yeah Gene Hunt is effing awesome!
  5:30pm
Martinibomb:

I really love the Sweeney series I've watched em all. John Thaw is the original Gene Hunt
Avatar 5:31pm
Mr Fab:

I thought that was Gene 'unt in that sample from 'The Sweeney.'
  5:32pm
Martinibomb:

May as well be Lol
Avatar 5:37pm
Mr Fab:

My work week actually starts on Wednesdays and goes thru Sundays. In other words, this is my Monday. so i appreciate the invigorating musics
  5:39pm
Martinibomb:

Yeah I think this mix is good for doing work and tuning everything else out. This Tokyo Cosmonauts is the only Martinibomb on vinyl by the way.. red vinyl :-)
Avatar 5:44pm
Mr Fab:

btw, LA sez: "Portland, you can take your weather back now, please."
  5:45pm
Martinibomb:

I've been kinda laughing about the rain down there. And it's been super nice and abnormally warm up here.. It's like we switched weather patterns???
Avatar 5:51pm
Mr Fab:

yeah, i've seen guys still walking around in shorts, short sleeves...

boogaloo, mi mucho gusto el boogaloo!
  5:53pm
Martinibomb:

That's about it for this show. But if you stick around past this next song by Ivan Cattaneo I threw some more cutup nonsense in because I had a little extra time.
Avatar 5:56pm
Mr Fab:

this show was da (Martini)bomb, *round of applause*
  5:57pm
Martinibomb:

You're too kind!
