I wish hollywood would stop using The Rolling Stones music -- it's so cliche now in film - so tired of paint it black fight scenes Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's a Stephen King mini series from ... late 80s/early 90s. And this rather louche man approaches someone, sticks his hand out, and says "Pleased to meet you ..." etc and he's obviously Stan and it made me so angry because it was so cliched!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Stan? STAN??? lol! Satan! lol!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Jan Turkenburg:

you had me there... Stan? Which Stan?

Even if, like all the best love songs, it's a wee bit stalkerish ;_)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
Jan Turkenburg:

The Herd, another band I haven't looked in to. The song is familiar though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That slightly acid-drenched horn is fabulous
  1:18pm
Martinibomb:

I'm not familiar with the Herd either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Must have heard it on Radio Veronica as a 4 year old
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Herd - Peter Frampton's first band :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Jan Turkenburg:

aha!

I'm ashamed I haven't spent much time with Peter Frampton so there ya go

Mr Fab:

I bought a beat up old copy of this Cream album years ago mainly for "Pressed Rat and Warthog" Something kinda Bonzo-ish about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This track is MAGNIFICENT :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm

it is!

Watch me and Jan do a happy freak out :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Rich in Washington:

I love Cream. It might be the one thing I really like with Clapton in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was in a cafe in the 80s and the BBC had just broadcast part of the Goodbye concert. So two lads at the next table and one of them asks the other if he'd seen it ... and it they only showed half an hour, so lad number 2 says "Oh - only the one song then?"
Fabulous. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Rich in Washington:

whoa! This is fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Jan Turkenburg:

so 'tomorrow' = In-crowd I just googled
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And Keith west. Grocer Jack etc
Avatar 1:40pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, I know what you mean about Cream, Rich - I tend to mentally block out the fact that Crapton was in the band. Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were so good together that they might have been great without Clapton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

In an era of decidedly God-like guitarists, Clapton was most definitely not #1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Rich in Washington:

I can't help buy any distressed copy of Disraeli Gears that I find. I am like a crazy cat lady of certain records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The cover of Disraeli is beyond gorgeous. I alwys wanted that painted on the back of a leather jacket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Rich in Washington:

Indeed. I still like his work and even singing in Cream, but far from the best 60s guitarist.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Cream a sort of response to The Jimi Hendrix Experience? I thought I remember reading that somewhere once.
  1:44pm
Martinibomb:

You guys ever hear clapton's cover of Yellow Magic Orchestra?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes! And I also loved the patterns of Jack and Eric's axes around that time. I had an SG type bass that I wanted to try to replicate that on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's a story that Clapton and Townsend went to see Hendrix and spent the evening in tears trying to figure out what career path they could choose because being a guitar hero had just become r3edundant for them ...
Avatar 1:44pm
Mr Fab:

That sounds horrifying M-Bomb! Say it ain't so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
Rich in Washington:

@Martinibomb: WHA? Are you pulling our leg? Did you mash something up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

You all know how much I love this song :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Rich in Washington:

Hendrix sure was a game-changer, no doubt. But that's rock n' roll. Someone comes along and makes the present seem obsolete.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Jan Turkenburg:

One of my fav Moody Blues tracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Rich in Washington:

Ah. I think we were just recently expressing our admiration for Moody Blues lately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Jan Turkenburg:

maybe it's their best even
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Rich in Washington:

but I'm being redundantly redundant.
  1:49pm
Martinibomb:

I'm not pulling your legs folks. He covered Behind the Mask which is my fave YMO song.. Michael Jackson also covered it. It's not bad -- think he recorded it around 88
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've just posted the video to the group :-) Ray Thomas dancing brings me infinite joy :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And MJ??? Ooof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Rich in Washington:

Lovely, GeorgyGirl! This show is doing wonders for my mood today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh dear - are you ok?
  1:50pm
Martinibomb:

Yeah it was suppose to be on Thriller - Michael wrote a couple extra lyrics and then tried to claim that he owned the entire song so YMO sued or something and it didn't end up on the album.. would have sounded odd on that record anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That would have been very odd indeed!! Wow. I did not know that!
  1:52pm
Martinibomb:

Quincy Jones producing a cover of YMO is kinda cool tho all things aside
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

True. Quincy is everything tbh
  1:53pm
Martinibomb:

I think Clapton really liked the song because it has a super interesting chord progression.. very different
Avatar 1:54pm
Mr Fab:

The Nice - pre-ELP Keith Emerson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hey! I have this 'Nice' song in a completely other version, with somebody else on vocals I believe ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Really? Could you send me an mp3? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Rich in Washington:

That's cray-cray, Martinibom! I had no idea! I need to go listen to that again. Is the MJ song available legitimately? I have a friend who's a Michael Jackson fanatic. I'll bet she has it either way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Rich in Washington:

I am still blown away by the fact that YMO were on Soul Train.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I'm trying to find the record ... didn't put it back in the right place
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's ... err .. it's an excellent single album. Not a double. Never a double. I adore The Beatles with every fibre of my being but The White Album really shouldn't have four sides. :-(
Avatar 2:08pm
Mr Fab:

Well, it's no wonder he decided to protest by having a Bed-In!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Rich in Washington:

It definitely could do with a bit of pruning, ala The Clash - Sandinista.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Lol!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Rich in Washington:

There was an amusing episode of Joe McGasko's Surface Noise where he and a guest submitted their voted on cut of the White Album. The comment board was alight with fierce arguments, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Jan Turkenburg:

That must be Jeff Lynne singing, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm

Jeff Lynne! ;-)
Avatar 2:12pm
Mr Fab:

and yet the white album is their best selling album...

But get yer pruners away from "Sandinista"! I would happily prune the White album, but I irrationally love the big stinking mess that is "Sandinista."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Rich in Washington:

I too love the stinky bits of Sandinista! Really sentimental about that album. I think it was the first 'punk' record I ever got for Christmas as a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
Rich in Washington:

I think our Xmas custom of stopping at the Tower Records near our grandparents house and picking out a record that we'd later get for christmas ended after I picked The Angry Samoans Back from Samoa. It got passed around that xmas morning 'They saved Hitler's Cock! - what kind of record IS this!"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm

Oddly, my mom expressed more bewilderment the year I picked Sandinista than that album, as I think by that point, they'd just given up on my musical taste, but I remember hearing 'these guys look like terrorists!'.

My mother + Ian Dury + Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll. And then later Spasticus Autisticus. Yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm

I'm just a little more dismayed that they aren't into weirder music, but maybe that's MY fault.

this dave clark five track is an early song I was into when I was about 5yrs old.. my parents had it on a best of.. which I still have
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Jan Turkenburg:

My Mom didn't like the pictuires of The Tubes in which what she thought was a decent pop music magazine "That's pornography!!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Rich in Washington:

My mom grew up in the era of musicals and groups who all dressed in matching outfits. I remember watching some music program as a family and my mom remarking (about some rock group) 'no one looks happy to be playing music anymore!'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Rich in Washington:

I also remember seeing The New York Dolls on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert and my dad and older brother just freaking out at how outrageous and 'horrible' they were. It kind of freaked me out, but in a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm

You can't understand what they're saying any more! Proper lyrics! Like in my day - The Sex Pistols. That was a proper band with lyrics ;-)

but I put my poor parents through so much needless BS when I was a full-blown punker when I was a teenager. I feel sort of bad about it now. They were so understanding compared to most of my friend's parents.
