This "Tarzan" is hysterical
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I just realized I might have offended somebody with "queer flute" , was unintended of course. It's an inside joke in a band I once played the flute in. When in German someone called me the "queere flute player" (querflöte = flute in German) I won't use the expression again here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Jan Turkenburg:

so, ok, there's a flute again!

I've been watching SCTV a lot lately and there's this spooky library piece from the later episode where an evil entity is turning SCTV people into glitter - the same spooky music is used in Kids in the Hall, the Simon and manservant Hecubus. Man, we're nerds!

Negativland sampled The Slurp too. I think it was on that People Like Us ‎– Hate People Like Us remix comp.

OTIS: actually, you set the Chicago show on 3 CD-R's (I still have them. BTW, Don Joyce broadcast the soundboard copy in one of the 'Lobster" episodes on OTE. Too bad it never got an official release...outside of the Archive.org

@Don - Wow, don't even remember, so much dubbing and copying from 1994-1999, my brain went numb. My old stack of 8 double dubbing decks in my Seattle apartment. From 1999-2002, gave 90% of the collection away to friends who would come by in Seattle and donated a bunch to a learning library in Seattle. I have a small handful here to remember that project by.

@BC - No, not on Discogs. From an album TAKE ONE! by the folks behind the show. Promo sort of thing.

Otis: The Interstellar Café! I have dim memories of that. Wasn't it a free album download that you would rotate every week? I think i sent you some things to post...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm

I dig your idea of ripping the keepers and getting rid of the disks, Otis. I don't know why that's never occurred to me before. I am so inclined to horde crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm

You could be the Marie Kondo of records, Otis!

I think I have post-record purge guilt syndrome. I think of all the records I'd have now if I didn't purge over the years. More than I could realistically listen to and enjoy, I'll say that.
Avatar 5:11pm
Don-O:

I also know a couple of tapes with the Intersteller Cafe tile on them. I managed to save those two tape to CD-Rs. A fine mix of lounge and industrial records!!!

@Rich - I have moved/lived in a bunch of towns and had many large purges over the years. In the habit still, I purge regularly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Rich in Washington:

I used to see the obligatory 'record collector dude in a roomful of records' pic and wish I had that many, but now, I go - when I see someone like Thurston Moore, etc - I go 'Wow. He could never actually have the time to listen to all those records.
Avatar 5:12pm

Well, I might be purging myself soon as there's a movie to Arizona hanging over my head this year. EEECH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm

That's a drag, spacebrother! I've only just had dribs and drabs of records disappear back in my party animal days.
Avatar 5:13pm

That's it, exactly. How in the hell would I listen to it all. Play it and purge it if it only has 1 or 2 good cuts.

I did recently have a friend have a bunch of very irreplaceable rare Jazz records stolen by a person he'd put up to help out. He and the records vanished off the face of the earth.

One cool thing about doing a weekly show is that I am exploring corners of my collection hither and yon and finding stuff I'd forgotten about - played a few times, shelved, lost, etc.

2 good cuts on this Welk album. Star Trek and Baretta. Otherwise, slumber time.

SWAT is good too on the Welk album actually. I like to joke that every second school band LP I pick up from the mid-70s has a cover of SWAT.

Welk also did a version of The Addams Family theme.

Oh, in La La Land Records 3 CD version of ST: TMP, they not only have the unedited Bob James single, but, for the Japanese audience, Shawn Cassidy singing the lyrics to Illia's Theme.

Avatar 5:32pm

@chresti - The radio show helps now to purge. Last year and before when I was absent from radio for 8 years, I made CDR and Digital comps of the best songs from records I purge. Still keep the music, push the media to, hopefully, another home where it will be enjoyed. Or the dump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
Rich in Washington:

I have this Pourcel lp, and it's one of those where I just listened to it once, maybe played something on a show, then shelved and completely forgot about it. Again, I need to sort more often.

@Otis- I used to regularly do that- make cdrs with selected favorite songs and then trade in the original cds.

I used to do something like that too, chresti! Back when you could exchange CDs pretty evenly. I think all that ended when MP3 downloads made them lose their exchange value.

Byron Lee is the Carib version of Enoch Light or James Last - a million albums, little collector's value, but usually some fun stuff .

Yes, Rich, I noticed the last time I traded some cds in, some were new. I guess Discogs is a way to off load cds?

Avatar 5:57pm
