I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I once saw Scanner play live for a contemporary dance show, a long time ago. And last year I saw a great dance show (Lucy Guerin's Split) for which he contributed the music. I don't remember the music though (I was too focused on the dance)

I remember a great performance by Pierre Berthet using vacuum cleaners. Sadly there were about a dozen people in attendance, including people from the venue

@fred Dancing with a vacuum cleaner sounds as good as dancing with a floor lamp!
Avatar 12:33pm
Mayuko:

Avatar 12:35pm
redkayak:

@fred @mayuko - Vacuuming is serious business here w/2 dogs and their human guardians. It's a war against nature, I tell you....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
fred:

@Mayuko: The Pierre Berthet show wasn't a dance show. I've seen some dance shows feature a vacuum cleaner, but almost always as a misguided attempt by men to appear feminist. Ambra Senatore is a delightful exception, but she just mimed it, no actual vacuum cleaner was used

I don't think I could survive long without art. I go every year to the "open doors" event at the Paris art school, a sprawling event featuring not so great art but a lot of exciting ideas, and a few great things each time. I need that renewal. They also have cheap good beer and last year a Japanese student had an onigiri stand. I hope he sticks around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
paul b:

Somewhat out of character I went to a poetry reading this week -- an old friend I haven't seen in over 20 years. She was a pre-nursing transfer student from Montgomery community college when I knew her. Now she's a famous (poetry-wise) Viet-American poet. Her books have titles like "Violet Energy Ingots" and "As long as trees last".
  12:57pm
rw:

Joe, we did go out there but we stayed in the casino. Only saw one thing but it was cool. Went to Frieze during installation. Looks like an art fair. Might be fun to get out and see everyone but I get enough of that stuff during the week! You?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm

northguineahills:

Verbal poetry is usually hard for me (see public poetry slams, etc), I prefer to read it myself. However, Mayuko does it perfect. I do have poetry on vinyl that works well as well.

..and as fred said, I need art to cleanse my soul, otherwise, I go insane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Webhamster Henry:

@fred I try to get the NYU ITP student shows, which have a good mix of ideas.
Avatar 1:03pm
JosephB:

@rw I got a hold of a free frieze pass so I'm gonna head over this afternoon. I'm not sure it will be a healing experience though!
Avatar 1:06pm
Mayuko:

Hi northguineahills! Yeah - verbal poetry is simply hard for me to understand often - since poetry has the nature of making miraculous leaps in ideas and emotions, so unless I am reading it on paper it's a bit hard for me to follow. If it's Japanese I could enjoy the rhythm and sound of it like music, but in English it's harder.
Avatar 1:06pm
Mayuko:

Hi Henry! Thanks for tuning in!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko I agree with rw. Your show does having healing powers. I'm currently having a terrible time at work today trying to deal with horrible withdrawal from a drug I'm currently trying to wean off. Your show is helping me focus less on the symptoms.

@Mayuko! I'm not an impersonator of yours... just another Mayuko who happens to be around. I've never met another Mayuko so I wanted to say hi! I usually listen to your program while I'm at work. You keep my mind in a good place.

I do my best to avoid unpleasant people if possible but when there's an encounter I usually try to feel glad I'm not the one with such low self esteem issues that I need to take it out on others.

  1:34pm
JakeGould:

@MaykoPrime: Ha! Seriously, the way negative encounters stick with you is based on humans just being animals. Brains are wired to help one remember. As events to process and understand them so you can protect yourself in the end. But when it comes to humans, lots of people are just psychologically mean. So just teach yourself to walk away mentally. Soon enough, things clear up.
