There's a NYC Parks "Naturewalk" around the perimeter of the largest sewage plant in NYC on the Newtown Creek (and Whale Creek), I used to go there in the winter to make field recordings, get the crunching of the snow, the roar of the sewage treatment plant, boat traffic, and the machinery across the creek of the junkyard in Sunnyside/Astoria, Queens....
