to age myself, I was at my friend's church, getting ready to go on a mountain bike trek, when his goody-goody little sister came and told us about Kurt, we didn't believe her, especially since we didn't think she knew who he was....

Hey Therese and everyone! Therese, I usually catch you on the archives, 'cuz I'm old and go to bed early, but I wanted to sign on tonight to thank you for such a wonderful show last week. I listened to it twice!

I was 37 when Kurt died. Nirvana was kinda off my radar at that point.

I remember I was very distraught when I heard that Kurt Cobain had died. I have a vivid memory of going to my first boyfriend’s house and him trying to console me
  10:33pm
Carmichael:

I grew up with Morrison, Hendrix and Joplin. Also, Bobby Kennedy and MLK. So, and I ‘m sorry to sound uncaring, another music suicide didn’t phase me. It’s a terrible thing for sure, though. I hope there’s some closure for the family.

Therese, could you play a Fight number?

Is this a Joe Biden song? I keed, I keed.

I think I was at the stage where I was too indie for Nirvana anymore and starting to get into more adventurous music when he died, then a few years later, I really got back into them and still like a lot what they did to this day. Right before Nevermind came out, I was at the indie dance club (one of the first times my parents let me go out), and Nirvana was playing inside ($5, I'd already payed cover for the evening), but I decided to stay outside and chill w/ my friends, as I was new to music at the time, and had no clue who they were).

finished reading the story on Action Park .... wild stuff! The movie I recommended The Way, Way Back is a fun story set in a New England water park

@carmichael well put. Pretty much what I should've said had I given my post any thought. I agree, it was just another part of the landscape.
  10:38pm
Carmichael:

Now Kirsty McKoll wrenched my heart out. I cant explain why, exactly.
  10:39pm

There was a Nick Hornby novel that has a bit about Cobain's death and it's effect on a teen aged girl. she was aloof and ironic, then she got the news and she broke down.
Avatar 10:40pm
Therese:

That was in "About a Boy," I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

I think you're right, Miz Therese.

But it was Alison Pearson's "I Think I Love You" about a girl's crush on David Cassidy that taught me how important pop stars can be.

A good friend named Scott Miller also ended his life at his own choice. He had a great band called Game Theory, and I played in a rival group at the time. It was a wild era.

Therese! I have that weird loop here too. I hear you in this room and then because of buffering you're in the other room three seconds later. The difference is I'm not talking so it's not super distracting. Thank you for the radio!!
