A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

It's freakin' spreading, my friends!

is tick-bourne illness considered picnic disease? if so, count me in!

Mr Fab:

Hey Rich, and fellow crate-diggers. I'm watching that video loop over and over, hoping that she'll finally open up the dress and stop teasing me!
Avatar 7:14pm
Linda Lee:

i don't believe there's any there there, Mr Fab! there is no more.
Avatar 7:16pm
Linda Lee:

just exciting new space-age fabric.
Avatar 7:19pm
Mr Fab:

Space-Age Fabrics! To wear in the monorail on the way to your lunar luau. Far more exciting than the same ol' nekkid ladies. Where's that vid from, Rich?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
Rich in Washington:

It's actually a random video someone made for Float On by The Floaters.
Avatar 7:21pm
Linda Lee:

that's just how they'd plug these garments. new! easy! modern! ephemeral!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Rich in Washington:

Not sure what it actually was, so made a gif of part of it.
Avatar 7:22pm
Don-O:

Damn! I miss and missed out those Space-Age party. I was too much of a young whipper-snapper to drink it all in.
Avatar 7:23pm
Linda Lee:

my mom was a clothing designer at the time. i actually had some little space-age garments!
Avatar 7:24pm
Linda Lee:

i'm sure they still exist in some other dimension.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh man. We're getting a functional treadle sewing machine delivered today and I'm really excited.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Rich in Washington:

I can finally make the leisure suit of my dreams.
Avatar 7:25pm
Linda Lee:

really?
what's your plan for it?
Avatar 7:26pm
Linda Lee:

cross post. pardon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Rich in Washington:

Just sewing. We've had terrible luck with modern sewing machines.
Avatar 7:27pm
Mr Fab:

Wow, that's so cool, Linda!

i did once take the monorail to the Space Needle, visiting Seattle. and LAX airport once took advantage of that icon of Space-Age architecture, the Theme Building, and used it to house a restaurant called Encounter. We had our wedding reception there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Rich in Washington:

My main plan is making all these damn vintage shirts I keep buying just a tiny bit smaller. Things like that. And my wife makes curtains from strange fabrics she finds.
Avatar 7:28pm
Linda Lee:

@Mr Fab ~ that sounds like fun. a nice alternative to the tiki theme.
Avatar 7:29pm
Linda Lee:

the old machines hold up beautifully, Rich. sewing for yourself really is a wonderful thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Rich in Washington:

The Monorail's fun. I have a couple of videos I shot riding it back and forth.
Avatar 7:29pm
Linda Lee:

& if things go really well with your ideas, there's etsy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
Rich in Washington:

I do dig sewing, but mainly just good at fixing stuff. But I'd love to learn how to do minor alterations, etc.
Avatar 7:30pm
Don-O:

Fab, what's the condition of the theme building these days/ I know the Encounter is not there anymore, but is the observation deck open?
Avatar 7:30pm
Don-O:

Rich, that would be something I would do if I go near Seattle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Rich in Washington:

My wife's pretty good at sewing. She made all of our sons kilts for a wedding, pleats and all.
Avatar 7:31pm
Mr Fab:

Hmm, that's a good point, Linda. Tho I luvs me some tiki bars, maybe someone could open a Space Age bar.
Avatar 7:32pm
Mr Fab:

Don-O: According to Senor Amor, who used to DJ at Encounter, it's all closed after 9/11.
Avatar 7:32pm
Linda Lee:

is it still possible to find inexpensive vintage? nyc was paradise when i was growing up there. just fabulous vintage & army/navy. fantastic. now i guess the outlets are in on the authenticity craze & want a bigger cut of the action.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Rich in Washington:

yeah. They youngsters are discovering Tiki bars now, so it's time for a Space Age Bachelor/Bachelorette Bar!
Avatar 7:33pm
Linda Lee:

excellent idea. like the old west coast drive-ins!
Avatar 7:35pm
Linda Lee:

i seem to remember a space theme everywhere when we visited LA in the mid 60s.
Avatar 7:35pm
Don-O:

All this talk about a Space Age bar reminds me of Verner Panton. People are so afraid of colors these days.
Avatar 7:38pm
Mr Fab:

Ah, just checked wiki: the observation deck has reopened at the Theme Bld, but weekends only. Maybe we could smuggle in thermoses of cocktails..? (and listen to this episode! gettin pretty space-y here)
Avatar 7:38pm
Linda Lee:

.. unless they're self-conscious.
Avatar 7:39pm
Linda Lee:

i mean the colors.
Avatar 7:39pm
Don-O:

I knew the deck at the theme building was closed since 9/11, I just didn't know the restaurant was closed during that time. Too many trips to the deck during my airport rats days and I went to the Encounter once with some curious co-workers. I dug the whole thing (except the prices) but everybody was putt off and looked at me like they accidentally invited a Trekkie. A good/bad experience.

Hey, i am noticing the space theme and the Space Needle mentioned, so it's my cue to invite anybody/everybody to meet me "at the top of the Space Needle" on May 1, 2025, high noon. I do this every ten years. I take everyone who came to meet me out to lunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm

That's cool! I should take you up on that, if I'm not in some reeducation camp or something.
