Hey Kris. Feeling tired tonight. Might not make it through the show but I’ll try.

Hi Matt, thanks for being here & thanks for trying!

Hi Dan!

Would have been cool to be able to hear Johnnie on the air doing his radio show in Dallas in the 80s

Hi Kris ! Matt! Danny! Homies!

Hi Danny and Chresti
Avatar 🥁 10:06pm
Kris Holmes:

Matt, yes indeed, although I don't know how much 80s blues I could have tolerated.

Hi Chresti & Coel!

I may have got close listening to Bobby Patterson on the radio in Dallas in the 2000s?

...hi chresti! hi Danny!

Matt from New Orleans:

Bobby Patterson is cool but he just isn’t Johnnie Taylor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
coelacanth∅:

did Johnny Taylor really play mostly 80s' blues on his show?
Avatar 🥁 10:13pm
Kris Holmes:

I don't know if Johnnie Taylor was as hilarious on air as Bobby Patterson though....
Avatar 🥁 10:16pm
Kris Holmes:

If it was an 80s radio show I can almost guarantee he was riding those 80s blues tunes of the day, synth horns everywhere!!! lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
chresti:

Hi coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Probably not but he certainly would have been more chill and philosophical. I can just imagine him pissing off the station manager by rapping on air for 20 minutes and not playing any music or airing the commercials
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
coelacanth∅:

ugh, "synth horns"!
so much good blues to play. good 80s blues? slim selection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Little Danny:

Wait, you're selling at ARC, Kris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Matt from New Orleans:

He is. He’s been reminding us for weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Even though you Danny are the only one who might actually be there of his regular listeners

Yeah, setting up Sat/Sun, shared table.

Hahaha. I will chisel your prices down until you wanna kill me.

I'll have a couple mixed boxes of LPs & a couple boxes of cheap 45s & a "better" tote of 45s.
Avatar 🥁 10:25pm

Dan, you get the family discount already though!!!!

I'm pretty sure Wilson Pickett's screams are actually distorting my cartridge!!!!

He certainly was letting loose in the prior song

Neat little tremolo effects on "Search Your Heart"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Hey Doc
Avatar 🥁 10:31pm
Kris Holmes:

i am a sucker for tremolo & i think we've had this discussion before. Clarence Carter 45s on Atlantic also get me that way.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
doctorjazz:

I think Picket could shatter glass with the high scream!
Avatar 🥁 10:31pm
Kris Holmes:

strangely i don't own a tremolo effect for my own guitar!!

Speaking of Chips Moman I went and saw Dan Penn last week at a small club here. It was a fun show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

I love Dan Penn as a songwriter, perhaps my favorite. I cover a lot of his stuff.

I remember buying at a head shop around 1973 a little plaque that reads, "Draft Beer, Not Students." I was in junior high.

Ray lived not far from me in the early 50s. He/his estate gave millions to Dillard and he endowed a chair that is supposed to focus on food and culture.
Avatar 🥁 10:57pm
Kris Holmes:

cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’ve heard so many great stories from Leah Chase about Ray. I’d only ruin them by attempting to retell them. He loved Leah’s food. He references her restaurant Dooky Chase in a song.

Love this "Watermelon Man"! Those delicate guitar lines

I should have realized that as soon as I saw RCA that it was a later version of the song and not the classic on Chess

Great production on this Prysock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Matt from New Orleans:

My Great Grandfather was friends with Hy Weiss. He was at my parent’s wedding. I was completely unaware until recently as we were looking at their wedding albums and I saw him in a picture and I recognized him. It all ties in with what I was talking about on Friday Danny but still doesn’t fully solve the puzzle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Little Danny:

Whoa, Matt, that's wild. I'm impressed that you even recognized him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
Matt from New Orleans:

He looked up to him. Apparently my grandfather, who was of a similar age to Hy, wasn’t as much of a fan. Morris Levy had done something shady to my two progenitors and my grandfather held Hy responsible but my great grandfather was more forgiving. This was all before either levy or Weiss were in the music business.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Matt from New Orleans:

The details are fuzzy as my dad couldn’t remember. There’s a lot of stories from my dad’s side of the family that I wish they’d been willing to share but I probably wouldn’t have given a crap at the time my grandfather was still alive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I imagine it happened in the late 40s but before Birdland opened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
